I am not a Saints hater. If other teams have bounty pays in effect, they should penalized by the NFL as well. And yes it is a contact sport. But I don't think that means that players should be "attacked" by other players. Football is a game, not a mugging.

well having a pay-for-performance incentive is totally OK with me. But if that performance consists of taking players out, that strikes me wrong and I think deserves repercussions - maybe not this aggressive tho. But the reason I think this punishment IS fair in the end, is that the league told these guys to quit the incentive and they did not. We love the Saints, and it is unfortunate because it seems they are some of the cleanest players in the league. But the incentive was continued, and the buck stops with the head coach and other mgt. Too bad for sure, and terrible for Peyton, but we think it is pretty fair overall. (tho I will note that lot of players do lots of worse things and get off with little or no penalty - unreal)

All of the Saints involved better hope this stays with the NFL. I believe many of the laws passed to fight organized crime; conspiracy, racketeering, etc could be applied to this case, and I doubt the Feds would be satisfied by a X game suspension.

Penalty is fair except williams should have received at least as bad as peyton got..when you have multimillionaires putting bounties on others..it take a punishment substantial enough to get it to stop. The saints were just the first one caught..hopefully the last!

This is crazy. The sooner you all realize that this is professional contact football and not a church flag football league. It really does not matter if they trying to hurt the opposing player on offense I mean that is what the defense is taught, to go knock the living hell out the offense when they have the ball trying to score. If they get hurt they get hurt it is a part of football. They getting payed anyway just by being in the league. Stand down Roger Goodell

Greg Williams and Johnathan Vilma are the only two out of all this that should be fired and/or suspended. The NFL commisioners got it all wrong.....Suspend Peyton the season, and Loomis and Vitt. I'm on the Saints side on this. Yes the Bounty system is wrong. Anyone who thinks the punishment should be more are just Saints haters anyway and they can't see behond their hatred.

We are not okay with the pay per play, but for everyone to act as though the saints were the only team to do it is preposterous. I am pretty sure the 49ers game plan was to knock out Thomas and Graham, but hey they didnt do it for money. Get real. What about the other teams Williams coached? The penalty handed out to Sean Payton in extremely unjust, when the asst. coach states that he didnt tell Payton about what is going on. We're New Orleans baby and we will be back.

This game is played physically at every level. The punishment may be to severe considering every player in the game is taught to hit hard and gang tackle as long as it is in the rules of the game.

I find it funny the only people who think this is ok are Saints fans. Everyone else can see that this is not just the rough game of football, but a well planned attack to try and end players seasons, even careers. Its a pitiful display, and a showing of what kind of team they really are. They know they can't get the job done on talent, so they have to take out the more talented opponents. Not harsh enough of a punishment. They were deliberatly trying to end careers, so I feel that their careers should be ended. Fire everyone involved.

Let me get this right, you pay players if they injure someone. I'm not sure how anyone can be ok with this, if so, do you think it should be ok in high school, college, or even other sports

Its a violent sport. Get over it, why even wear pads anymore? They make it next to impossible to threaten people to go over the middle and the QBs arent scared of getting hit anymore. They may have been paid for big hits, but it wasnt dirty. They didnt twist opposing players ankles at the bottom if the pile. They performed legal football hits. So what they got paid, it was just their way of coming together as a team abd rallying behind big plays. Too harsh of a punishment for sure!! WHO DAT!!!!

I am really glad to see the NFL take this strong stand on this issue. Young people and yes older people look up to these high paid professional coaches and athletics. There is no place in professional football or any other aspect of life for these type of actions. I hope this will send a strong message to the rest of the NFL teams that this type of action will not be tolerated. We as American should be better than this.

I think what happened to Gregg Williams is proper. As for the rest of the staff it's outrageous. Sean Payton was pretty much held completely responsible, and according to the press release had little knowledge of it. A sad day for us Saints fans. Who Dat!

I get that football is a physical sport. But The goal is to stop the progress of the ball, not to put the opposing player in the hospital. By awarding a bonus for injuring an opponent, the Saints management was tryimg to turn the sport into the fictional "Rollerball," where the last team who can put a squad on the field wins.
