What's Rondo's Fate?

He hit the back of the refs foot and stumbled, clearly it was an accident.

i wish someone would do their homework! marc davis is even worse than joey crawford. davis reffed an atrocious one sided game in boston against the hawks on april 11, 12. anyone who was at the game saw davis doing everything he could to give the game to the hawks. several late in the game terrible calls against boston or "miscalls" just like he did last night when the ball clearly went off of hawks just before this bad call on bass. i don't think bass ever fouled out this year. in april, davis was booed for more cheating calls than any other ref in recent years. boston fans are smart, they don't just boo anybody. then for the nba to just happen to schedule davis for this game and he does it again! rivers blew the game early on and no pass terrible bradley(pierce and garnett sb shooting), but as celts were catching up, davis stepped in to give game to the hawks, throwing our best player out. two games in a row reffing the celts v hawks , ag the celts!

  • ...WOW - 12 years ago

i can't believe that he was called for that..the ref wasn't even looking at him when it happened. IF he was looking at him, then rondo wouldn't have bumped into him obviously because he wouldn't of moved back. this is terrible. if anything he should just get a small fine, but think of all the other times when other players were arguing with a ref. they didn't get anything called. the refs Understood them or tried to understand them. All rondo was doing was what any player would do. They're in the playoffs and they want to win.

  • david - 12 years ago

clearly intentional. he even puffs out his chest right before. hes just mad his his sell out team is no longer guaranteed a cake walk to the finals. go to miami if you want calls rajon

  • crackertroy - 12 years ago

This is not the first time Rondo has gone after the refs. I suppose he thinks that if he can intimidate them with chest bumps and throwing basketballs at them they will give him the calls that he wants. It's more or less Rondo's way of crying about his team playing a poor game. The call was a GOOD call, the Celtics player had Josh Smith in the headlock while he was going for the loose ball. No jump ball. Foul is the correct call. Celtics lose, play again next time.

  • Pino - 12 years ago

Im not scared, and if you think im an idiot, thats fine with me, although its uncalled for. I know rondo is a great player, no argueing from me on that point. I just dislike how some of the celtics behave (not just this game). Its arrogant and agressive and has nothing to do with professional basketball. It has more to do with street basketball. should not be tolerated, period! And that applies to all teams and players ofcourse. Any unsportsmanlike behaviour should be acted on.
And with rgards to meta world piece, yes, perhaps they should punish him harder.
But thats just my opinion. You dont have agree with me :)

  • Dino - 12 years ago

Everyone should STFU about it. It's the Playoffs...more physical, more emotional, more intense. Officials makes bad calls all the time and players complains but calls doesn't change. So a little "accidental bump" brought by momentum is not a big deal. Let's just ball.

Official made a bad call, what do you expect players to feel or react when the game is on the line.... sometimes people don't think. Simple as a bad call and Rondo let him know. Too much power for the officials, he gets bump then give the player a technical just like when players muscle up each other they get a T. Everyone is making it a big deal....

  • Josh - 12 years ago

Your an idiot. If that were to be so, a whole playoff suspension, then Meta "World War" Peace should be thrown in jail. What he did was horrid and lethal. For that he got just 7 games. Your just scared of Rondo and what he is capable of to rip w/e team you like to shreds. Admit it.

  • Pino - 12 years ago

Pfff... Suspend for the rest of the playoffs. Such behaviour should not be tolerated. Celtics are known for their big mouth and unsportsmanlike behaviour. Draw the line and make it clear that this is unacceptable.

  • Boba - 12 years ago

    Pleaseeeeeee no suspension. Thank you

  • Josh - 12 years ago

Screw Marc Davis. Terrible official. Check out Hedo Turkolu's ejection/suspension earlier in the season. He drove to the rim and clearly got fouled but it was ignored by (GUESS WHO!) Marc Davis. Granted Turkolu's grabbed him after the no call, which was stupid, and did serve the 1 game suspension. Rondo has to be PROVEN guilty that this was intentional. Too much evidence can show this could be an accident. I want to see a fine, no suspension.

If the nba suspends Rondo on the same criteria as Artest then he should only miss like 3 min. of game 2. Seriously...

  • Peter - 12 years ago

hahaha, of course it was intentional... It is so obvious, I dont even get why we are debating. Hes whole attitude says its on purpose, and he doenst complain when the ref throws him out. DONE

  • adam - 12 years ago

He shouldn't be suspended! He did trip over the foot but his right leg stopped his momentum if you watch the vid closely! He intentionally bumped him with his chest but doesn't deserve a suspension!

  • taylor - 12 years ago

Rondo should have not even got in the refs face but he did trip over brandon bass and if any cosequence give him a fine and not a one game suspension

  • frank - 12 years ago

forget all of you who said that Rondo should get a game suspension...it was totally an accident..i think the ref. wanted the hawks to win...bunch of cheaters

  • Andrew Lomac-MacNair - 12 years ago

He stepped on the ref's foot and tumbled forward. The video shows that. Bad call all around.

  • Robert - 12 years ago

    Here's the rule again:

...that “any intentional contact with a game officials” results in a one-game unpaid vacation for the violator of the rule. So the discussion will center on whether or not Rondo’s chest bump was “intentional’ or not...

  • Robert - 12 years ago

Bad call by refs, but stupid stupid reaction by Rondo. The rule is do not touch a ref. The technical foul came from him getting up in the ref's face and then accidental trip is one thing, but the chest bump is an automatic ejection. Plain and simple, and for those of you saying it's about time the players stand up to the refs. WTF is wrong with you? That is what the refs are there for. As a coach I teach my kids respect for the game and the officials. I find it hilarious that we teach our kids that (or we should be anyway), but when you make a lot of money you should be able to show the refs who the real boss is. On the courts the real boss is the ref. Players choking coachs, players giving other players concussions, players bumping refs, it all comes down to respecting the game and the officials. It's not that hard to understand. Oh, and Go Spurs Go :-)

  • tevin - 12 years ago

im a lakers fan and yes the bumb was on purpose he stepped into him and dogged him the hole way. but its the play offs its not a suspension if you do anything fine them at this time it gets aggressive its how it is in the play offs and the Celtics are a winning team they dont like losing especially in the playoffs

  • Alex - 12 years ago

Can I just point out that from the video it seems that Rondo was ejected BEFORE he bumped into the official. Therefore I don't see why we're debating it when that wasn't the reason he was kicked out! His over-reaction is what caused the ejection and that does not warrant a suspension in the slightest!

  • twoman - 12 years ago

I am not a Bulls,Heat,or Hawks fan trust me! By watching the video I feel like the chest bump was intentional. Rondo makes no attempt to try explain himself to the ref as he is being tossed. If he truly "tripped" and didn't mean to bump into the ref then you would think he would look more surprised and try to plead his case to the ref..He just stares him down and walks off..totally intentional. And with his history deserves a suspension.

  • rico suave - 12 years ago

As a 3D modeler with extensive experience in lighting and soft-body mechanics, it's clear that rondo's JERSEY trailed him as he stopped, causing a lot of apparent "pop" as he stopped. That's in the angle from the back. What's furthermore clear is that after he put corrected his stepping on the ref's foot and put his foot down, he was already over his center of gravity and it would have been physically impossible to do anything other than accelerate forward. That's in the angle from the side. Yes, rondo could have used his hands, but honestly what is more intimidating, an NBA player brushing into you or an NBA player putting his hands into your back?

  • bsj968 - 12 years ago

He didn't trip over anyone. He stepped on the back of the refs foot while he intentionally bumped him in the chest.

  • CC3(Aussie) - 12 years ago

I'm not sure which way to go, one he does get his feet caught up and looks to have been tripped a little but two he does stick his chest out while having words. And if you trip and stumble your first reaction is to stick your arms out to try and not fall which rondo does not do he sticks his chest out and connects with the ref and basically walks to the locker room before being ejected ... tough one

  • EDGE HARDY - 12 years ago

DON'T SUSPEND HIM OR DO ANYTHING THAT WAS NOT ON PURPOSE THAT WAS AN COM-PLETE ACCIDENT

  • Tony - 12 years ago

Anybody with 2 eyes can see it was intentional. you can see him stick his chest out.

  • MIrr - 12 years ago

Right. Most of you probably are hawks, heat, or bulls fans. So, for all of you hawks fans we will see you Tuesday. Rondo will return I know it.

  • doesntmather11323 - 12 years ago

    Totally INTENTIONAL !!!

  • Qing - 12 years ago

People trying to justify his "intentional" bump with the it was a bad call argument clearly didn't read Sekou's article. There have been plenty of bad calls throughout the history of the league and many grown men have conducted themselves as professionals and not lost their cool like Rondo did. He should be suspended for stupidity alone.

  • Viktor - 12 years ago

the Bump was 100% intentional. Rondo simply could not control his temper.

  • kurt - 12 years ago

If they suspend Rondo, then they need to suspend Marc Davis from the playoffs, he's a lousy official who is obviously on a power trip, AI's crew should have whooped his ass and nipped this egomaniacal pos in the bud.

  • Isaac - 12 years ago

This was a truly bad call... First of all these referees are obviously getting bribed, look at the Knicks - Heat game so many terrible calls in Heats favor. Now the Rondo "intensional" bump... He obviously tripped on the referees foot and the referee didn't see that since he was looking the other way. Of course he put his chest out he tripped! And the Hawks also kicked the ball but it got called on Rondo... Now I am as you probably saw... A Celtics fan of ALL MY HEART but I think even the Hawks fans saw that those were terrible calls, they're just to scared to say that because they're scared that if they say that they will lose they're chance on winning with Rondo on the court. The Celtics can beat Hawks but with calls like that Hawks are obviously aware of that and then bribe the officials so that they get calls in they're favor so that they have a chance to beat the Celtics... Rondo doesn't deserve a fine and especially not a suspension but if it pleases the Hawks fans give him ONLY a fine not a frigging suspension... Now of course they can recover with only a one game suspension but many game suspensions, NO WAY! And Brandon Bass jumping over Josh Smith it was obviously a tie with Garnett already, it should've been a jump ball call, but it wasn't... Another reason why the Hawks are bribing the officials. I've seen people jumping over other peoples necks while catching that loose ball and it was a jump ball. So again terrible calls throughout the Heat - Knicks game and especially the Celtics - Hawks game. Now this is only my opinion and the officials or the fans don't have to agree but I know deep down they know it's true.

    -Isaac

  • Rob P - 12 years ago

Yes, Rondo's actions were uncalled for, however i do not believe the bump was intentional. Come on man its play off basket ball. Emotions run high, tempers flare and mistakes happen. He clearly wasn't trying to bump the ref. His bucking motion made him stumble into the guy. Let him play ball

  • Nik - 12 years ago

most pussiest bump ever, no suspension, fine and shouldn't have even been ejected

  • branndonbadger - 12 years ago

This incident was on purpose if he gets away with bumping the ref then everyone should get away with bumping or hitting someone bottom line he lost it its only the first game of the playoffs he cant loose composure like that over a call what the official says goes no matter what he has to say and he did trip on his foot but it looked like he caught himself then bumped the ref he deserved to get ejected and for him to not get suspended for at least one game isnt fair to anyone espeacilly the atlanta hawk fans if worldpeace gets suspended from hitting someone why cant rondo get suspended for purposely bumping the reff his team isn't getting no ring anyuway
    by the way im heat fan #heatnation LET'S GO WADE i support d wade 100 % cause he dosent bump reffs catch the drift?? (;

  • cris - 12 years ago

although he steps on refs foot, (that one is unintentional) the chest bump was so so clear..I've watched it several times and i am convinced that he really did bump the ref on purpose. I like Rajon but if he will be spare with that one, i don't think that's a good for the NBA. I mean that's NBA official he bumped in. if that's okay and I'm an NBA player I would love to bumped on refs too every time he makes a call that i don't like. But c'mon guys that's an NBA Official..and for the one who said ..."this is the playoffs everybody is expected to dive for every loose ball"...hey!!! have you ever seen the video??? diving at the back of the other player is okay for you????
    come on guys!!!

  • noBody - 12 years ago

The ref made a bad call for the foul on Bass. Its the PLAYOFFS everybody is expected to dive for every loseballs! Rondo got the best of his emotions. He deserved to be ejected but a SUSPENSION? As if the chestbump of Rondo hurt the ref. If a touch to a referee is equal to a suspension then Bradley should be suspended too..

  • Nate - 12 years ago

Who is biased? Dude, quit lying to yourself Rob. I don't care if they don't suspend him. Just watch the film again man. If a player has possession of the ball and another player from the opposing team jumps on his back then it is a foul.... Garnett did get a finger or two on it for a split second. Not enough to call a jump ball. Hahaha bitter Celtics fans! Every game is going to have calls that opposing fans are not going to like because it didn't favor their team. The truth is they just got beat. Better luck next game

  • Josh - 12 years ago

Take Rondo's suspension earlier in the season for example... Yeah... There is like a freaking bounty on him or something throughout the leagues officiating. He is getting hacked like no other. Zero protection.

  • RObBert Jordan - 12 years ago

This is what angers me the most. All of you saying he should be suspended are probably hawks, heat or bulls fans who are scared of perhaps being knocked out of the playoffs by the Celtics, because deep inside you hawks fans were ready to cry and got extremely frustrated when the Celtics cut the lead to four. There was 3.3 seconds on the shot clock and the call should have been a jump ball. First Garnett and Smith got tied up momentarily that should've been the first jump ball call. Secondly, Brandon Bass went for the loose ball and then they were then tied up again. You people that are saying that was a fan obviously don't watch enough basketball. I've seen people hop on others necks for the ball and gotten the jump ball call. Point is it should've been a jump ball call. Also, prior to that terrible call, the official also made a bad call where the ball was clearly off of Josh Smith and they called it off Rondo. These bad calls late in the game clearly gave Rondo a feeling of them being cheated. This has happened also in the previous season matchup. The referees made about 4 or 5 calls in favor to the Hawks that were completly terrible. It is clear that either the referees employed are flat out BLIND or hawks are paying off referees to make calls in their favor late in the game. Simply because they know that the boston celtics are going to beat them in the first round. Once again the call was terrible, and costed boston the game. So then, Rajon Rondo should not be punished. However,The referee should definitely be punished. Bad calls have been consistent through out this season.

  • boston - 12 years ago

Come on guys... No suspension he obviously tripped over the refs shoe and lost his balance.. Sure go and give him a fine but a game suspension?? Metta gave a guy a concussion and he only has 7 games..... Horrible calls..

  • Nate - 12 years ago

If you watch the replay of the incurring play, Brandon Bass jumped on Josh Smith's back then raked him across the face on the ground. Good call. Rondo obviously intentionally chest bumped the ref. Rules are rules. I just don't understand all of the people who say it was a bad call. What should the call have been? The ball was never tied up...... Either way, the Hawks were going to win that game and they are going to win the series. Hawks vs. Heat Eastern Conference finals.

  • ray - 12 years ago

players should shut up because if this was any non super star this would be an easy suspension call im sick of watching players like lebron and kobe yelling and complaining about calls when they themselves get over 30 free throws a game yet players such as tim duncan and dwight howard just speak with refs get called players shouldnt argue witht he ref if they feel they have been cheated than teams should start showing tape to stern to show bias and show stats such as certain "teams" that get over thirty free throws while the other teams gets none but theres no room for things like this happening

  • DMega - 12 years ago

Will, what is stupid is people like you coming in here spouting off non sense. Mad because the Heat destroyed the Knicks? Get over it. Refs have a job to do, do they make mistakes? Yes, but no Ref is trying to help another team win. Can't stand people like you bunch of fanboys!

  • josh - 12 years ago

If Rondo does end up with a suspension, his team had better pick up that craptastic slack they showed tonight and win it for him. Then Rajon will come back with a fiery vengeance for Hawk blood and tear them apart in Boston.

    Activate Triple Double Mode

  • Alex - 12 years ago

Rondo did bump into him intentionally. However, it's about time an NBA player showed a ref that they should not be intimidated when there is blatant officiating bias. I am not a Celtics fan, but a Lakers fan. I didn't watch the game and I didn't watch that call but from what I've read is that there were calls that clearly cost Boston the game.

I am not a Boston Celtics fan at all. I am a fan of the game and the game is being destroyed by Stern and his cronies! The NBA is an industry but the outcomes should not be altered by anything other than the play of the team's participants. What has been going on recently has been heightened ever since the scandal with Tim Donaghy. Quite frankly, he is correct that Stern has altered final scores through the use of his referees. I hope the NBA draft lottery is not marred by the same scandal that happens with NBA officiating but I cannot be naïve anymore.

I may be a Lakers fan but I support Rondo in this defiant act. Referees should not fear the wrath of Stern but the wrath of the players. They already showed they will not be quiet in the face of adversity this prolonged offseason against Stern the Scoundrel showed the fans of this great sport. As soon as Fisher and the NBPA were going to have the federal courts audit the NBA and the owners they immediately aimed to settle with the NBPA. I am not stating the NBPA is better with all the nepotism occurring under Billy Hunter. Thankfully, Fisher is a truly descent human being and knows how to not embrace corruption. However, it is clear that the NBA needs to clean house with many key personnel in order to produce a more unbiased union.

  • bryangelong - 12 years ago

Rondo could have wrapped his arms or hugged Davis to show that it was accidentally caused by the trip, the replays clearly show that he extended his chest to show frustration. Rules is rules, don't wait Metta say something if Rondo get away with this.

  • Miguel Soler Jr - 12 years ago

No suspension or even a fine. For me a technical foul will do. What happened was just a complete accident. If you will observe keenly on the video Rondo’s bump was the result of him stepping on the foot of the referee. The ref didn't saw it because he was facing the opposite direction. Emotions are too high in the playoff mostly on situations like this and referees should understand that. Sometimes bad calls can affect the result of a game. Is there any panel/committee that reviews bad decisions from the referees? If there is what happens to the officials? Fine? Suspension??????. Come on

  • Michael - 12 years ago

Rondo is NOT in high school anymore he is a PRO and should conduct himself as such. Bumping an official voluntarily is not tolerable in the NBA or any professional sport for that matter. That's why I say he should be suspended for 1 game.

  • John Doe - 12 years ago

There is no way that should be a suspension. The bump was intentional, but the call was also terrible. I can reason with rondo on why he got so emotional. There's no doubt that Rondo overdid it with the bump, but a hefty fine should compensate for that. Making a man miss an entire game for a heat of the moment slight touch? Come on now. Let's be practical. This is coming from a Lakers Fan who wants Boston to suffer.

  • zyx - 12 years ago

stupid call leads to stupid reaction..

  • john - 12 years ago

No suspension or just a fine. its understandable why rondo got so upset. two bad calls cost boston the game. first was hawks kicking the ball out but calling it on rondo.

this is the playoffs. celtics had a chance with 4 pt deficit and its really tough to see your chances ruined when you worked so hard in the regular season and in the game to get there. these are competitive people and they are not robots. its understandable to get emotional. put yourself in their shoes and you will get emotional as well. people just can't seem to understand that.

and you can clearly see rondo trip on officials foot. and official stopped and the momentum made him bump the official. he couldve used his hands to stop the momentum but that wouldve resulted in a touch as well. he just instead used his chest to stop the momentum. it should be no suspension.

  • O.T. - 12 years ago

He stumbled into the official clearly a little fine will do but no suspension

  • Philly_Baller95 - 12 years ago

Bad call, but worse reaction by Rondo. There's no way that bump was unintentional; he stuck out his chest. Sorry Boston fans, but he's missing next game.

  • will - 12 years ago

the officials are obviously paid off this year or something its not just this game that they were crooked, take a look at the heat and knicks game every fould in the first and second quarter was complete BS... whats the point of watching basketball anymore, when someone gets touched thats an allstar theres a foul wtf? stupidddd, what does vegas own the nba?

  • sdfSD - 12 years ago

suspend him this happens all the time and he has to control himself and he has to learn not to act like that or one day he will hurt somebody..just like ron artest

  • kevin - 12 years ago

its going overboard obviously...that was the horrible call, and its easy to get it why rondo gets so emotional.
