The people of Saskatchewan and the citizens of Regina ought to collectively endorse funding the construction of a dome stadium.
If the province and the city are serious about supporting a professional football team as they have famously done with Rider Pride and in providing a year-round support for amateur sports and entertainment events, it is incumbent on the residents to promote highly innovative ways to raise the necessary funds in order to build a state-of-the-art dome stadium. A dome stadium would not only house football, baseball and soccer games but it would become a year-round multi-purpose facility, designed to host local to world wide activities and events. Moreover, considering unbearable weather elements of high winds and the bitter cold that fans and players to their chagrin not infrequently face in an open-air facility and which unfortunately determine the outcome of games, not to mention such a facility lying dormant much of the year, it is almost inconceivable that leaders and residents of the province have not yet collaborative agreed to work towards raising the funding for a dome stadium.
Does it make any sense to have a new stadium stand empty much of the year and, when used, have players and fans continually put up with harsh weather elements, as has been he case with Mosaic Stadium? Obviously not! Whether old or new, an open stadium is an open stadium! Yes, a dome stadium would be costly - that isn't unexpected! In 10 to 15 years, the current cost will be tripled!
But consider what it would mean and do for the province and the people! The immediate and long term benefits would far outweigh the current financial strain and sacrifice needed to raise the funds. With province-wide support and monies obtained from different sources, including possibly establishing a special fund-raising lottery, the construction of a dome facility in the end will be viewed and prized as a hugh achievement and grand wonder of the province. The collaborative enterprise of constructing a dome will pay dividends in the immediate and distant future, as well as further greatly enhance an enviable economy. A weather-proof facility would not only be serviceable year round and embrace numerous activities and events, it would also grant both spectators and participants the privilege, enjoyment and luxury of an enclosed facility while continually generating huge revenues and further employment. The people of the Saskatchewan more than deserve the advantages of having such a wondrous, high-class facility and cultural centre and the monetary benefits it would reap. A firm and full commitment to establish necessary funding for a first-rate enclosed facility would create an enduring treasure for the province and an endearing accompishment for the people!
The only option to a dome stadium would be a proposed open-air facility that is - roof ready - for the near future and be compatible with the advantages of a first-class dome. Think what Rider Pride would mean in a state-of-the-art dome!

Dumb location. From the mayor who wrecked Vic East traffic flow comes... a stadium even further removed from downtown! Way to spend money, to hurt downtown!

    This is a dumb survey.

    Should be multiple questions
    1. Do you support a new stadium?
    2. Do you prefer open/dome/retractable?
    3. Do you support Evraz location, downtown location north of Casino, other location?

I voted no, because the location is dumb, but I do support a new stadium, actually in downtown!!

Almost 70% against... you better take a time out on this one and really think about it.

Remember, the initial excitement was for a dome with a retractable roof... you can't simply cut out the heart of that initiative and expect people to settle and suddenly except 1/2 of what you originally were planning.

Put another way, if you told us from the beginning that the idea was to simply construct a replacement open air stadium, I think you would have found that the support was really not there (vice the retractable roof dome)... the city can't make such rash changes and expect the public to accept it.

What I keep hearing, similar to what I would also support: "Go big or go home".

Please remember that most the excitement was for a dome with a retractable roof, the excitement wasn't to go 1/2 way. For the city planners, please know that this decision will effect all for the next 50 years or until the next stadium.

I will leave this point, when looking back in history, will there ever be a more perfect time for Saskatchewan, especially with regard to the boon on oil and resources as there is now? Remember, the eyes of Canada are watching and you are supposed to be a 'have province' not a 'have not province'.

There has been so much talk about a new stadium for so long now it's becoming like the annual DST discussion that happens every year. Lots of people talk about it IE: gubment, private sector and all it does is go around in a circle. Unlike DST a new eventplex is what this province needs. It will bring jobs, larger entertainment acts and a far greater revenue stream than is being realized now from Mosaic and CUC. It's time to stop looking at it as just a stadium, but a place where new and exciting things can happen. This whole thing is looking a lot like the Capitol Pointe project on Albert St. Excuses, excuses and more excuses while keeping the public completely clueless as to what the holdup is.

Maybe it's time the public should stop talking about it. If we show indifference to it, happening or not, then perhaps our elected officials will stop dragging their feet and do something about it. It's time to either make it happen or put a bullet in it and leave it for dead.

An open air stadium won't get anymore use than it does now and will cost everyone more money.... do it big or don't do it at all..... unfortunatley I fear we will succomb to the latter....fail to strive for something greater and settle fo rthe status quo.... maybe next year.....

Agree if you are going to do an open stadium leave it were it is. I think a closed one will be good for the city. Not only for the rider games but also to have big concerts come to Regina. Put the new Stadium were u planed to before.

Poorly worded poll! I voted no because 1) I want a closed studium & 2) I think Evraz Place is a poor location due to the lack of parking & the people who look after the current facilities don't take care of them so why would we want them to be responsible for another facility?? And don't forget this is the same group who lost the Royal Red! I DO want a new closed stadium at a different location!!

IF we are going to build an open air stadium, why would you move it 10 feet from the old one? You are going to upgrade the old one for next year, and then tear it down DAAAAA. Build a new roofed one on the CP ground or forget about it.

I say if we are going to build an open air stadium, why not fix the one we already have instead. We could convert it into a horse shoe stadium and fill the south eastern end in with seating. It would be cheaper and would make a lot more sense from a finacial point of view.

Surely this stadium business has gone on long enough. With the dollar amounts increasing as we sit and discuss what should be done. Do it or don't just make a decision, stick with it and get this "project" started already.

  • Tasha - 12 years ago

Why would anyone want ANOTHER open air stadium when
we already have one? The dome would have been a wonderful
thing. I have been to games in the winter and it is not enjoyable
    whatsoever.

  • Dev - 12 years ago

    I agree, very poorly worded

  • tv - 12 years ago

Reword the poll! Are you asking if the new stadium should be built at Evraz Place or is this whether a question of the new stadium be covered or open air. To much history on this topic to have the poll question worded this way!

  • rob v - 12 years ago

Lets just hope that the R.E.A.L. Looks after this new facility better then the current facilities at Evraz Place
