Should the city go ahead with turf fields at Newton South High School?

Some other towns are tearing up their synthetic turf fields and our Mayor persists in using $5M of discretionary funds, with the help of pir alderman, for multiple such fields, apparently not just at NSHS. These "representatives" of ALL of the Newton citizens align themselves with the few who might obtain some questionable benefit at an enormous expense! Sure, leave another legacy project that's a money-pit. This is another mess that introduces the beginning of enormous expenses that will stretch into many years to come, when the fields need to be replaced at short intervals because of intense wear or worse have to be rebuilt altogether because we find out they are dangerous (carcinogens, environmental impact, injuries, loss of GREEN space, toxicity, heat, etc., etc.,...). When will our representatives learn that cow-towing to special interests is not only wasteful and foolish, it can endanger the populace and result in a terrifying waste of valuable taxpayer monies? They shouldn't act without the facts! How about putting the question before all of Newton given how controversial synthetic turf is? After all, apparently you value turf fields over teachers and classrooms when it comes to spending your OWN available funds. Such hypocrisy!

Have we learned anything from Tuesday's election?!! Newton would rather have teachers than turf. What are you people thinking?!
