I don't think they should be banned, but old style literary festivals maybe should retain some of the nostalgia and traditional selling styles of the past that we're so quick to miss out on in the busy, flustered and consumerist world.
Just as there is something far nicer about real books on a book shelf, no matter how convenient a Kindle is, the same sentiment applies to most book festivals, I believe.
