Should the national anthem be sung in both languages?

Lisette racine are you really that blind/naive, all of Canada excluding Quebec are forced to be bilingual while Quebec forces it's citizens to be Slang French only. Not one sign in Quebec is allowed to have any other language present other than French and the people are fined if they send out any printed material in any language other than French. I do believe that is closer to oppression than anything. As for the racism comment from you it is not racist to speak our opinions and for that matter they are the same race/culture as the rest of Canada just a different language.

Maybe the prairie provinces should separate and become a distinct society. At least then we could improve our own peoples lives without having to feed money to a failing province such as Quebec who still owes Alberta after the 1976 Olympic Games.

The western provinces have been keeping Canada afloat for many years now and yet Quebec still pushes its ideals on our children. How about they start teaching their children English so they can fit into the rest of the World instead of making the rest of the World learn a slang version of French that even people from France cannot understand.

The Calgary Stampede is a western thing not a Quebec thing so leave us alone and let us have our English, or maybe we should sing it in Chinese as there are more Chinese people in western Canada than there are French. If you want to talk about respecting culture. Or how about Spanish, Japanese, Arabic or maybe even Italian. Canada is a Multicultural country not just Bi-cultural. This is why it only makes sense to use the most common language English.

I can't even imagine asking such a question! How many French speaking people live in Alberta? How many tourists come from French speaking countries? It is called respect for the spectators who deserve a bit of French at the Stampede and at other events even if it's just a few lines of the National Anthem.I feel lucky and proud to live in a bicultural country and it scares me to think how racist some canadians are!How on earth can they appreciate and respect other nationalities if they don't acknowledge the two nations forming the country they chose to live in?People have to learn to be more tolerant of one another ..In this day of age people are more educated and there should not be any discrimanation when it comes to languages and cultures.

The official languages act was Trudeau's idea, and ever since then we have been paying for it dearly. The people of this country are sick and tired of being blackmailed by Quebec...

    Hey Jean

You're confused here. The 1995 referendum was almost 20 years ago (17). It is a very different Canada now my friend. The West holds the reins now and will for the forseeable future. If it was not for the West and the transfer payments that are in the billions of dollars being sent to "have not" provinces like Quebec, you would have a very different financial perspective on your membership in this Great Country.
However, I digress. I fear a far less tolerant Canada would be conspicuously absent from any " Stay in Canada Quebec Puhlease!" kind of demonstration or mass gathering in Montrealif a referendum was scheduled. A matter of fact, if the rest of Canada could get their complacent heads out of their butts they would have a referendum asking Canadians whether or not they want Quebec to stay.
In all seriousness though Jean, if there was an event in Quebec that drew predominantly French speaking spectators you can bet organisers would drop the english version of the National Anthem if the audience members requested it in a Winnipeg minute and not think anything of it. Probably would get offended and pissy( like you are now) if any one question there decision.
Finally Jean, looks to me like you might be a guy that woudl vote yes in a referendum to separate if not, I apologize. If you are then I suggest you be careful what you wish for, for yourself and your future Quebeckers.

    Hey Jean,

Doubtful we'll be the ones crying-- everyone knows none of you could put a meal on the table unless someone from the west flipped the bill on your behalf.

Take French out. It gives us Alberta's more time to watch the awesome Calgary Stampede Rodeo.

    Merci!

We live in an English Speaking country and Quebec who never actually signed the original BNA act keeps pushing their fake rendition on the French language on the rest of Canada. Take french out of the National Anthem and off our products. Quebec doesn't allow English or other languages on signs and products in their miniscule part of the world.

BTW we won't cry for something we didn't want here in the first place. If the rest of Canada was allowed to vote for Quebec to leave they would have been gone years ago.

You whish to drop the official national verson of the O'Canada . Its your decision.
When we will soon drop from that Canada, don't come and kiss our asses and say WE LOVE YOU like you did during the last referendum.
