Is the Canadian Senate a good usage of taxpayers dollars?

Electing senators is not the answer. Those who are elected rarely are elected for their ideas.

The populace, in general, is easily fooled by a preety face and ability to tell us what we want to hear. Do you suppose that so-called senators have been "elected" in Alberta for their ability to critically examine proposed government bills?

No, it is not the institution of the senate at fault here. Let's stop and think. We need a senators who think for themselves and who are aware of what the population desires. The government ought to know what the population desires, then convince them if what they desire will be bad for the country before they do the right thing. Sadly, the current government, in my opinion, has proved otherwise.

    Thank you.

The purpose of the senate is to act as a chamber of sober second thought. The current prime minister has willfully usurped this purpose and, sadly, the Canadian populace has willingly aided in this usurping. In some countries, he might be turfed from public office after being tarred and feathered.

The prime minister has appointed cronies whose sole purpose is to vote for all government bills, like the conservative sheep do in the lower house. This is akin to the so-called peoples' representatives in the lower house, and the prime minister's cronies in the senate, having to seek the prime minister's permission to go to the toilet.

Do you think that the so-called conservative senator who boxed with Justin Trudeau gives a damn how many days he actually attends senate meetings? He knows that the promise he made to the prime minister about resigning in 5 years cannot be enforced. And he is not an idiot to refuse a hefty salary, and life-time pension, that he will get if he meets only the minimum attandance -- whether or not he participates in any discussions there -- in the senate.

It is a shame that the current prime minister has so destroyed the credibility that Canada and Canadians commanded in the world at one time.

    Thank you.

We, the electorate must rid ourselves of the grave-train senate. At the least, is must be an elected senate and without gold-plated pensions. The gravy train burdens us with too much cost. We have to change it. The job should hold enough prestige to be free of tax payers costs and held by persons of seniority, who should already have gained more of life's experiences.
