Augusta is all about preserving tradition. And now that has been compromised!

Why should any country club be allowed to restrict membership from women in this day and age? Only a redneck would feel differently.

I don't know what is more shocking? Finding out that Augusta National now has female members or finding out that Condoleezza Rice is a woman??? FORE!!!

It all depends on why they changed their policy. Were they somehow pressure into it? A better poll would also have provided that option.

No big deal. I can think of a thousand other things to worry about.

I agree because it is for Augusta to write and adminsiter their own policy. I would have been opposed if it had been forced upon them.

Why is anything restrictive? By either the color, the sex, nationality, or whatever else those in power can come up with? Does that make them feel they exist at a higher level, and those they deny are less deserving? How would they react if the shoe were on the other foot and they were the one being denied? Who really wants to belong to any organization when membership is secret process of qualification?

    No.

Private clubs are just that, private. They get to choose their own members, which as part of their original rules was meant to be men-only. I find this absolutely mind-boggling to insist that a men-only club, to now allow women...just strange that this decision came about. Does this mean that any women-only clubs should now allow men? I am sure if someone raised enough of stink about it, and the national media decided to cover the story, that it might work out...anyone willing to volunteer?

If the supposed 'gender gap' isn't satisfied with this event, I don't know when satisfaction will ever occur. Maybe when all men are reduced to stay-at-home status and only women participate in the workplace? Just another step in 'giving', getting taken advantage of and giving more, and only in the end regretting ever having given in the first place.

Private clubs should be free to choose their own membership, free of politically-correct grandstanding and pressure from outside groups.

It's sad that a private club has been criticized for its private decisions. Are we now ready to tell private women's universities that men be admitted to their student bodies? Are we going to force integration upon traditionally white and black Greek organizations on college campuses? Or other private organizations across our nation? The status of the Augusta National may garner more media attention, but it doesn't equate to a greater responsibility or great accountability.

I am a 47 yr old female. I live in Augusta, GA. I disagree with todays decision. The Augusta National has been a Mens only club since 1932 and should remain that way. The woman have their own golf club in South Carolina "Women Only" just a few miles from the Augusta National and the men are not trying to invade their club.

Of course they should allow women to join. There is no justifiable excuse to exclude women, especially considering the prominence of the tournament put on at Augusta.

The Supreme Court has determined that separate is NOT equal. I applaud this overdo move while highlighting the utter hypocrisy of allowing all female courses, clubs to exist. There is no such thing as reverse discrimination. This is a politically correct term to justify sexist, racist, ageist etc behavior. Making decisions about inclusion based on sex is sexism, period, even if the victim is a man. And yes, granting acceptance or exclusion based on race is racism. It is time to embrace Dr Martin Luther King’s vision
“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
    -- "I Have a Dream" speech, August 28, 1963
I am certain the Reverend would have extended this to gender as well. Time to end the sexism, racism etc… NO ONE should be discriminated against, white black, female, male, gay strait old or young. Separate is NOT equal. End official State Sponsored discrimination, in ALL forms.

Why would any woman want to join? For them to "allow women" is a slur on women. Women should tell them to pack sand.

The answer is "yes" only if Augusta chose to make this step of their own free will, without threats or government inteference. Since it is a private club, it can choose any member it chooses. If this is the direction the Board decided to follow, more power to them!
