Is it appropriate to ever bench a minor hockey player who refuses to pass?

If that doesn’t get the message across put the player out by themselves for a shift, see how they do when they are truly playing alone.

The question and answers are a bit backwards! At the highest levels, benching for not passing makes no sense if a player can do more on his or her own. At the lower levels, it's purely about development (rather than winning), and passing should be a skill stressed even if it makes that team weaker in the short term.
