Whose Side Are You On?

There is the letter of the law and the spirit of the law. This is a case where the spirit of the law takes precedence. Everyone knows you're going to take a knee; you can't smash into people; it's a question of sportsmanship.

It's like A-Rod running from second to third on a pop up and screaming, "I got it," which makes the third baseman move aside—thinking the shortstop is coming in for the ball—and the ball falls to the ground. It's legal. But it's bush league.

What about in football, running up to the line and motioning that you're going to spike the ball and then throw a pass instead? Marino did that once and threw a TD. No one faulted him.
