I think ED is really Trixie Daily. I mean seriously. Why choose some spoiled unicorn brat wannabe magician . Think of the others like Derpy, Scootaloo (Best pony) and Doctor Whooves. They would be way better stories! Also screw Gilda, we already know she is just a bully who likes Rainbow Dash.
Zecora! She comes from faraway lands, so her backstory would make for, at the very least, an interesting trip through Equestria and those other lands. Besides, who doesn't like the rhyming? :D

Gilda has a moderate backstory because we know she was Rainbow Dash's friend at flight camp, we know nothing about Trixie or Zecora.
Discord we know enough about. There IS backstory for him in the show.
Chrysalis is not coming back guys. She wasn't a substantial enough villain, I doubt Discord will be coming back either despite the popular demand.
Mayor Mare is a stock character. She is like the Mayor in the Powerpuff Girls: she's there to be kind of bumbling and to be the mayor, that's about it.
I'd like to see more on Cadence and Shining Armor, but that's pretty much a guarantee for Season 3. Scootaloo and Cheerilee also belong on this list.

How come I see no love for Gilda? You know, it would help the show a lot if we took our focus off the Ponies and expanded the MLP universe a bit. I find it ignorant from a lot of the fans.
Also, why is Mayor Mare on here? Like there is much we want to know about her. She's the mayor, end of story.
Also, Trixie is in the lead?! Why do so many of you love her so much? Sure she was a bit comical and her personality is unique I must admit. But what we need for Trixie is an episode about her, not a backstory. Would you really want to hear about some Unicorn that wanted attention? I know that it would be boring...

All I say is to expand the universe and wonder about those who had a direct affiliation with the Mane Six. Gilda would let us know more about Rainbow Dash and Cloudsdale, and their previous friendship with each other.

Wow, a poll that isn't totally one-sided.
I was stuck between Chrysalis and other. I want to know the story of Celestia and Luna and their history. Because, so far, our main knowledge is that either Luna turned into Nightmare Moon because of jealousy or because Celestia was (and possibly still is) some evil tyrant.
But Chrysalis is also intriguing; was her plan just to get into Equestria and lie low? Did she originally want to feed her subjects peacefully but wasn't able to negotiate with Celestia? Or is she just an asshole by nature? Also, she feeds on love, how could they defeat her with it?
Eventually I went with other because I feel the writers could make a better episode on Celestia and Luna.
I agree I think Scootaloo needs a backstory.

Hmm, I voted Chrysalis, but I'm still not 100% that it was the right choice. I mean, I'd love to see more Chrysalis and such, yeah. But Zecora is awesome and, frankly, is the most likely on this list to have good episode-material in her backstory. So even though I placed my vote, I'm still split. And probably always will be. Until this poll is over and I forget about it forever.

Y'know, I voted Chrysalis, but in all honesty it was a tough decision.
I kinda wanted Mayor Mare and Zecora as well in equal portions. As well as "other" for many other favorite background characters that are far less likely to ever get that.
But Chrysalis won out due to being such an awesomely designed villain.
I would like to see more Big Mac but I voted Chrysalis in this poll. I want to know more about the history of the changelings, mostly because I can't help find the Changeling's goal to be morally ambiguous and I want to see what lead them to acquiring love in the fashion that they did in Equestria.
I want Prince Blueblood to have an episode to show that he's not a one-dimensional spoiled jerk. And have him hook up with Trixie.
I kind of want to see Trixie episode detailing her a bit more... Her hats to awesome for her to just be a one hit wonder bitch especially with all the stuff you can stir up with her and twilight being idk rivals?

The other ones have a lot of fanon backstory around them and I don't think that should be ruined for our liking. I would choose other, more detailed Twilight, but then there wouldnt be the possibility of more filly Dash.

Obviously the Heart's Warming Eve story is a lie. How did Celestia and Luna wrestle control from Discord? Celestia is obviously the true evil mastermind, plotting to rule all.
Celestia and Luna! They really need an episode that fleshes them out a bit more and explains some of the history of Equestria and their relationship with Discord/Crysalis/the surrounding nations etc etc.
I really couldn't care less where Trixie comes from. Any of the others would be interesting though.
Well Scootaloo isn't exactly a "every once in a while character", but I'd still vote for hers before I'd vote for anyone else, so other. It's either that or I don't vote on this one.

Celestia and Luna. They have so much potential, and have such an interesting relationship, that there's plenty of material and demand for an episode.

Oh man this was a tough one. I'm sure all of these characters could have very promising back stories. I personally would love to know first a huge back story behind Celestia and Luna and how it ended up with Luna turning into Nightmare Moon in more detail then the book Twilight read in episode 1 of season 1, but also just more on both of their characters in general because both could have an incredible back story to them.
But of those listed I think I'd be most interested in Zecora's back story. Like how she discovered her cutie mark ( If for Zebra's they're still call them Cutie Marks ) as well as more about her fellow Zebra's and country.
Again though, over all I can say that about every character listed here probably has a ton of potential of a great back story.

Discord, and by extension Celestia and Luna. We already have a very basic outline of how Discord was ruling and then the alicorns banished him, but I'd like to see that gets its own episode.
The leaders of lands, Celestia, Luna, and Crysalis.
Um, celestia and Luna? The Diarchal Deific alicorns? Yeah, their lives have the most potential for an interesting backstory.
I think that Trixie's character has enough developing her as having some sappy past or reason for being snobby would be too fanfic-y

I 'd really like to see Discord to be honest. Sure, Zecora, Trixie, Gilda, and the others have very promising background stories, but I'd really like to see the interaction between Discord, Celestia, and Luna. Since Discord clearly stated during the episode that he forget how 'grim' Celestia can be.
Either Celestia / Luna or Scootaloo. Chrysalis would be a good choice as well.

Personally, I'd rather see the show bring new antagonists/villains into the MLP universe than create situations where defeated ones return. I've always found those kinds of plotlines in other shows to be so much more unlikely.
