There were some interesting statements tweeted but out of context they're pointless. I would normally depend on a link to a page that backs up the statement. Agree with Andrew's comment about providing a link to a roundup of the conferences key points, with links to speakers' personal pages for example.

Regarding "Would you like to see more "live update" tweets on @smashingmag from conferences?", I'd prefer a tweet mentioning that the conference is taking place, and later on a tweet with a link to a summary of the key points of the conference, or an article on Smashing Magazine containing the same.
