Is it right that illegal immigrants will be able to pay in-state tuition rates at state colleges in Massachusetts... as long as they obtain work permits?

I agree that rewarding those who commit ILLEGAL acts in not right at all! We are your average middle class family that is getting no breaks when it comes to getting assistance in paying for our kids" college expenses. Why doesn't the Governor focus on those of us who are honest, hard working, LEGAL residents! Better yet... let's get a new Governor!!

Is there a way to opt out of using MY taxes to support illegal’s benefitting from my hard earned money . I had to pay for my kid with no help and I’m a Vet.

Allowing illegals to pay reduced tuition is nuts. What part of illegal does rthe Governor not understand? The whole DREAM act is a farce - brought in as children, etc., how many of these people are carrying valid birth certificates with them when the snuck into the country? Where is the legislature on this matter? They should be screaming bloody blue murder here. Why don't we just eliminate the legislature and let Deval run the State by decree! He is just like his idol, Obama.

Deval, with all that Harvard education, what is it that prevents you from understanding our language! Their ILLEGAL, end of story. The only foolish thing you haven't supported is for us to pay for that murderers 'sex change' operation and electrolysis. Or did you and I missed it?

So let me get this straight:

I am in the UNITED States ILLEGALLY and I am offered half price tuition. Who pays the other half Governor? Is the spot that the illegal person has the one that was going to be for my child? Will they be taxed on anything since they are illegal? If they can't pay the discounted tuition who pays for that?

See the pattern Governor. Legal taxpayers in the Commonwealth will always pay their share and others too. Who paid for my grandfather in 1912 when he came here? He did and waited in line.

My father volunteered for 40 years teaching 3500 immigrants English and American history to get their citizenship the right legal way. He testified before Congress to close loopholes and streamline the legal immigration process...He is turning is his grave seeing that the Governor is rewarding people breaking the laws while spitting in the face of the people who are working so hard on doing it the legal way. Like it was said earlier.... This is not fair to those who follow the rules. There does not seem to be any rules when it comes to what the democrats want. I say let them earn it just like those born here or have become legal citizens by following the rules. What are we teaching our kids when we reward illegal behavior? Shame on the Governor for selling out Massachusetts in the present for his political future.

All this talk is fine but do not just sit their, call for his removal before
he stick's us with more stupid spending. Our so called REGISTRY
is another joke !! WHY DO THEY GIVE OUT DRIVER HANDBOOKS
PRINTED IN ANOTHER LANG. IF THEY CAN'T READ ENGLISH
THEY SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN A DRIVER'S LIC.
BUT THEY ARE, ISN'T THAT JUST GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who does King Patrick think he is spending OUR money on his pet project to undermine our society? It's no different from Congress stealing OUR Social Security money to fund their pet projects. It's nothing less than Taxation Without Representation. Think back to your school days: does that phrase stir any memories?

    NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jim D. - 12 years ago

What the hell has he been smoking ? No doubt he is going to run for President in 2016, and is pandering to the Latino voters.

Shame on those who voted for this jerk and kept him in office.

This is unbelieveable. How about taking care of our own and never mind the illegals. What a disgrace Gov Patrick.

  • Dick R. - 12 years ago

I can't believe it. Just goes to prove that these politicians do as they please, they could care less about us.

  • Marie - 12 years ago

Are you kidding me? First the Governor is in negotiations to charge Massachusetts citizens sales tax for online shopping like Amazon.com and now he wants illegals immigrants to pay in-state tuition? Seems that something is out of balance here.

How can one man make a decision like this and favor people who are here illegally? Woudn't this encourage others illegals to come to MA ? I thought we were a country of laws.

  • Kathy - 12 years ago

What a mockery of the USA and our laws! Key word "ILLEGAL" - what about the rest of us who are law abiding citizens and work 2 - 3 jobs so that our children can attend college?

  • Debra - 12 years ago

With the economy the way it is and middle America dying off, Why can't we take care of our
own kids that parents and grandparents have MADE this country, live here our whole live.
What else can we do for Illegals? You make legals buy health insurance that we don't use,
be making mortgage payments, we don't get mass health, food stamps and we have a hard time
taking care of our own kids education. What about Americans????? What is OUR country
coming too?? You treat illegals better than you treat the people that fought for this country.
    What are you thinking....?

  • patrick - 12 years ago

Rewarding those who break our laws is destructive to what is left
of what once was a commonwealth that supported marriage and family.
The Commonwealth of Mass has declared war on itself.

  • Rick George - 12 years ago

If you helped put this IDIOT back in office with your vote, you are
getting just what you asked for !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Too late now, he is going to to what ever he want's and to H--- with
the people who pay his salary !! Massachusetts is NO. 1, when it comes
to allowing ILLEGAL ALIENS to have a drivers lic., collect tax payers money
in benifits, live and work here !!!! HOW DOES THAT MAKE YOU FEEL !!

  • janet - 12 years ago

A big NO! This is not fair to those who follow the rules. There does not seem to be any rules when it comes to what the democrats want. I say let them earn it just like those born here or have become legal citizens by following the rules.

  • Ben Johnson - 12 years ago

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU VOTE FOR AN INCUMBENT !!
THEY FEEL THEY CAN DO WHAT EVER THEY WANT !! AND THEY DO !!
THEY COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO PAY THEM !!
JUST LOOK AT WASHINGTON HOUSE AND SENATE !!
    DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Patrick is obviously pandering to the latino voters, but at the expense of logic. I think the first commentator makes a great point. Why is a lawbreaker getting subsidized by taxpayers while a legal resident of NH, even a veteran that has put his life on the line for our country, has to pay the full tuition. Insane

  • denis - 12 years ago

Just curious... What tuition rate would a LEGAL veteran living in N.H pay if he or she wishes to attend UMass?

  • Dan - 12 years ago

Why is it I who have been born here is accountable for breaking any rules or law and is punished with no sympathy for ignorance of laws or rules regardless of the situation but people that come here with the intent of breaking the law get a pass, and aid on top of it!

  • Steve Dunn - 12 years ago

How can this be justified? Is it not clear to the Gov. That there are fundamental differences between legal citizens and illegal aliens who should not be permitted to remain the country nor in the Commonwealth?

  • Millie - 12 years ago

Rewarding those who commit illegal acts is definitely not the right direction for Massachusetts... shame on the govenor for forging ahead with something I don't think the majorty of the people want to happen.
