The best game ever is Pompiers Simulator 2012!!!

  • Haywire - 5 years ago

They should probably change the title to "Most revolutionary game of the decade" instead of the best. Besides nobody really has a valid opinion because nobody has played all of these games. People just vote for the ones they played and complain about how the games they hated were on the list. With that said I choose WoW because i've played the game for a long long time and i'm a complete fanboy. Wii sports was an eyebrow raiser in my opinion but since this list is based on the most revolutionary game I guess it's place does have some merit. Windwalker looks like something nobody would ever play, Shadow of the Collossus is a game i've never even heard of but it looks pretty cool, Bioshock was pretty meh to be honest it's just a combination of some other games nothing innovative. I always hated portal cause I suck at it; but it 100% deserves it's spot on the list; there is no arguing this fact. Can't comment on mass effect it never interested me same with red dead and batman.

What games could be on the list that I think were very revolutionary? Starcraft, Assassins creed (I guess it was a prince of Persia rip off but whatever), Super Smash bros melee or brawl, minecraft (I don't like it but it's revolutionary).

  • MikeMaster312 - 5 years ago

Out of all honesty, Half-Life 2 should easily take the throne. The game itself revolutionized the way we all play today, in every aspect. The source engine, graphics (considering the time period), and anti-climax all top the list in my book of milestones and if you can't see this obviously you haven't played it. Yes I can see why you argue with Halo, but there wasn't truly anything very special to that game that set it apart from the rest.

If you're reading this in disgust that I'm in support of the game that you "hate" out of modesty, give the game a try. I guarantee you'll side with me in the end.

  • Arxin - 5 years ago

The Source engine is responsible for a lot of other great games, mods and communities that exist today on the PC.
Therefore my vote goes to Half Life 2 and Valve for starting it all.

  • Daniel - 5 years ago

where is Twilight Princess or Skyward Zelda, any zelda from this decade could make it

  • memebyerin - 5 years ago

Any of the Eldar Scrolls, Witcher 2, any Assassins creed, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead/2, portal 2 and so many more [valve] games didn't make the list... but wii sports did?

  • phorlanx - 5 years ago

    From what's on the list:

    1. Half-Life 2
    2. BioShock
    3. Portal

Though Half-Life would be n1 for me whatever the list was. Counter-Strike, Team Fortress 2, Starcraft II, Warcraft III could have been mentioned as well.

  • bob - 5 years ago

Where is super smash bros melee, its the only game that I constantly played for 5 years

  • Muhammed Shihab - 5 years ago

SHADOW OF COLOSSUS is the best !!!!
sadly not many people played it
its also the best ps2 game released ever
i hope it wins so that people can know about it

  • David - 5 years ago

wow non of the GTA?? thats some bullshit!!!

  • aaron - 5 years ago

to people who are complaining that rock band, and sports games are not in there, just be quiet. We dont want to hear you complain.
Second, if you think this was a weak list, then you should go crawl up in a corner and be ashamed of yourself.
Third i picked half-life 2 because the story, gameplay, and graphics of the game were all so great. Also still waiting on an hal-life 2: episode 3.

  • Herman - 5 years ago

ummmmmm Assassin's Creed series? no? what the hell????

  • joeyy - 5 years ago

skyrim came out a year ago that apart of the past decade! duh that should be in this, because they have arkham city, dont get me wrong i love AC but skyrim is ssooooo much better!!! i almost feel these nominations were made by idiots who dont even game really! aaaarrrrrrrghhh

  • joey - 5 years ago

this is fucking shit none of the elder scrolls games are nominated!!

  • Crhis - 5 years ago

i love valve games for a few reasons, the biggest of which is thier common control scheme. it was tough choosing between portal and HL2 but i have to go with Portal, not because it was innovative in terms of graphics and physics (it IS HL2 with different models and characters after all) but because the concept was so different and FUN to play, while at the same time taking advantage of the beautiful graphics and physics of the source engine. i'm pretty sad that TF2 is not on this list because that game is literally my favorite game ever and i think it's the best FPS by leaps and bounds because of the teamwork aspect of the game, which forces people to be mature and have fun. Still, i can't remember being more hyped about a game than when i first heard that Portal 2 was coming out, and i've never been more hyped since. and it more than lived up to the hype, i think. So my vote has to go for Portal.

  • awdasdasd - 5 years ago

    Errr....Wii Sports?
I can understand the other games on the list but Wii Sports?
Yeah, it's fun for a couple hours, but definitely not the best game of the decade
Give that spot to something like Metroid Prime or Super Mario Galaxy 2, or hell even Ratchet and Clank

  • Fernando - 5 years ago

Half-Life 2 for ever!!!! best game not only of the decade but the best game of the century

  • Damn Anon - 5 years ago

Shadow of the Colossus all the way, I don't know what's wrong with you people.

  • Hats - 5 years ago

This list is lacking in many fantastic titles, because as of now, there is clearly only one winner.

  • Kommentor - 5 years ago

What the hell is Wii Sports doing on that list?

Did you even CONSIDER adding Super Mario Galaxy instead?

  • onores - 5 years ago

Half Life 2 is legend! en iyisi tabikide.. Gerek senaryo gerekse oynanış olarak.

  • Dragonchaser - 5 years ago

Since the latest changes to W.O.W. (Cross Zone Realms) I find I am looking for another great game and hope to find one that my computer can handle without the problems I encountered with CRZ in W.O.W. The game was playing just fine until Blizzard added that CRZ function.
My old AMD 965 4core w/8gigs 1066RAM just could no longer deal with it.
Maybe I can find a new "Best Game" from tonites winners I hope. As of now, no longer even looking at ANY Blizzard or Activision Games.

  • Anon - 5 years ago

Seriously? I don't like any of the options...

  • Kav - 5 years ago

I would like to say WoW but It's Half-Life all the way. Please stop saying Halo. Halo is, and forever will be, overrated.

  • Nathan - 5 years ago

Half-Life 2 most definatley, was my first PC, First FPS, first M game, I have alot of firsts with this game, and the Source Engine, which redefined the PC game era

  • Metalax - 5 years ago

What? No Hat Fortress 2? Have to go for the game that spawned it's engine then.

  • Zack - 5 years ago

SOTC hands down, it shows exactly what a video game is capable of. Fantastic games play, an imersive world, and a storyline you care about, albeit, the main character is mute. It asks how far you would go to save the one you love, even after death. This is the closest a video game has come to true art.

  • Charles - 5 years ago

Windwaker, pure and simple. FUCK MODERN FPS

  • Xerxes - 5 years ago

That list is a joke HL2 is the best of course and HL is the best of the best but it is not in the list :))

  • DarthZero - 5 years ago

Sorry but Halo is a great game but say it is better than Half-Life 2 is stupid
Half-Life was my first game, is not a fanboy thing, but Half-Life was the best franchise ever made!
Graphics, Story (mainly) , Gameplay, etc...

  • Jesse - 5 years ago

I don't know how much it's moved gaming forward, because after it came out I never saw a thing like it ever again... but Shadow of the Colossus is the greatest game I have ever played in my life. I'm a huge Valve fan too, but SOTC just steals it.

  • Jack - 5 years ago

If it wasn't for Valve and HL2, all the other games on this list wouldn't even exist.
You don't have to be a "Fan boy" to know HL2 was a break through in gaming. Physics, graphics and game play, where all extremely beyond all the other games in its time. And obviously the source code was leaked and every game company had hold of it.

Thanks to Valve for being the NASA of game design.

  • magnimum - 5 years ago

    half life 2 by far!

  • Manny - 5 years ago

Thank god Call of Dick didn't make it. That series is so unworthy of being called "game of the decade" due to it's monotony and the fact that it is single-handedly killing the FPS genre.

  • Migitri - 5 years ago

Where the hell is Halo? The Halo games are without doubt the best of the decade and revolutionized the way games are made and played. But since there is no Halo, I picked the second best, Half-Life 2. It was tough, though. Portal is pretty close to HL2 in greatness.

Honestly, I'm surprised at some of the options on this poll. Bioshock? Mass Effect 2? LAME.

  • Torrint - 5 years ago

How the fuck did Wii Sports make it on this list and games like MGS3, Fallout 3, or GTA:SA didn't?
I bet Nintendo paid for that slot.

Anyway, had to decide between Portal and Half-Life 2. It's like choosing my favorite child.

  • MrFox - 5 years ago

I have to be honest with you guys, i've been keeping this secret for years now but: Mass Effect is a bad game. I've plaed ME 1, and 2 both 2 times. It's not an RPG. It's boring, repetative and you don't feel like you are doing anything relevant/useful/that really matters. The characters are not life like (apart from Tali), the action is plain and boring, and IT IS NOT AN RPG. Levelling doesn't even matter, the skills are useless. It's a sci-fi FPS. If you want to play a real Bioware RPG try Knights of the Old Republic, or Dragon Age or Jade Empire. If you want a really good RPG, try Obliviob or Skyrim or Morrowind. Just avoid Mass Effect.

  • Pius - 5 years ago

    HALF LIFE 2. No doubt.

  • john - 5 years ago

halflife 2 without a doubt. greatest game of the decade i dont care what anyone says and in my honest opinion it really is the best game of the decade. its long, interesting and extremely fun. its engine gave people the capability to do, almost anything! its just a amazing game halflife 2 has to win this

  • John - 5 years ago

Stop asking for Skyrim, dammi! The poll is about games of the PAST DECADE!

  • smatti - 5 years ago

Wind Waker is the best on the list. MM sucked though.

Also, I don't see Fallout 3 on there.

  • Ridsnake - 5 years ago

where is Metal Gear Solid 3 ? .........with this limit i have choosen Half Life 2 because it´s the very best in this genre......and no i´m no fanboy, it´s reality

  • Alex - 5 years ago

    wheres mgs 3

  • Tony - 5 years ago

This list is way too limited. What about any of the shooter games that have a successful franchise, such as Halo and Call of Duty (I don't play them, but they should be on the list, at least one). Or how about titles like Fallout 3 or Oblivion/Anything from Elder Scrolls? Or how about Starcraft 2 or Diablo 3? Or Little Big Planet? Or anything from a strategy series like a Total War game?

There are so many other possible games that should be on the list. Obviously the editor has a strong bias for these particular games, because I feel that most of them are not influential or even that great of games. I voted for World of Warcraft because it is the biggest seller on the list and it has gotten into pop culture much more than other games. But generally speaking, none of these games that are on the list qualify as the "best." The question should have been phrased "Out of these pre-selected games, which one do you think is the best?"

  • Daniel - 5 years ago

Wait I don't understand... Majora's Mask was released in 2000 so is this list implying that Wind Waker is better than it? That would make no sense seeing that Majora's Mask is the greatest game ever made.

  • Liz - 5 years ago

Shadow of the Colossus. 'nuff said. I'm out.

  • Jake - 5 years ago

Red Dead is my favorite off the list.

  • Jonas - 5 years ago

In my "gamingcareer" I have played all kind of different games but there are only a few which I would call a milestone for the gamingindustry.

To be honest I can't understand why so few people think of WoW. It revolutionized the whole MMORPG world. Because of WoW a lot of great games emerged and the genre MMORPG has began to boom. The only games on the list that could make a draft on something similar are imho HalfLife (2) for setting new standards in the egoshooter-genre and Wii Sports (new interaction possibilites).

BioShock, MassEffect etc. are really really great RPGs ...but there were already great RPGs before them and after them, even greater RPGs will appear. They don't mark a turningpoint for the genre or technology.

Sry for my halting and sloopy english :)

    @Dio
    Skyrim came out 2011...nuff said

  • Liedsin - 5 years ago

The list is not that awful because it has The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, the graphics are excellent for a Game Cube System, the history is pretty good and have well duration of playing and also contributes to the large story of the legacy of The Legend of Zelda, also the gameplay and the bosses are perfect with new movements and new ideas for the bosses and monsters like the ghosts and the creepy hands in the temple of Medli xD. Yeah I guess you people are right, need more Mario Galaxy, Elder Scrolls, a Halo, etc. But also think that is not that awful this list because Wii sports was the first game that has movement when playing even though it was not that good :P and well I wont talk about the others because I only play them like two or three times and Im not that experienced only defending the legacy of Legend of Zelda :')

  • Dio - 5 years ago

I am very surprised Skyrim is not on here. With that being said, the decision is actually kind of difficult with a few games on that list. But I would say Shadows of the Colossus. To put it simply, that game is one of a kind. Truly.

Why do people want Uncharted on this list? Jak and Daxter was so much better and it actually innovated. Uncharted is an amazing game, but it's way too overhyped.

  • Tyler Nornan - 5 years ago

Really? This list is God-awful! Where's Morrowind? Or any Elder Scrolls? Mass Effect 2 over the first one? This is pathetic.

  • matt - 5 years ago

Bioshock for sure, action, suspense, moral choice and a story that screws with the player! I loved System shock and loved Bioshock even more! Let's Go Bioshock, Let's Go!

  • Ashk - 5 years ago

Mass Effect 2, because seriously it changed the RPG game's direction. I played this game hundred time and i still love it. It's the game of life for me.

  • Fargoth - 5 years ago

This entire list is god awful, and you should be ashamed if you actually take this poll seriously.

  • James Russel - 5 years ago

I voted for Wii Sports because a game that brings the whole family together and helps you loose a few pounds while you're at it is a step in the right direction for this medium.

  • Reza - 5 years ago

    HALF LIFE 2
    nothing more , Nothing Less.
    Just Half Life 2

  • Justice Beaver - 5 years ago

    Hi all,

I would like to express my reasoning for why I chose Wii Sports. 9 months ago, I was diagnosed with obesity. My love for eating and playing video games progressively turned my life into a meaningless struggle. I lost my friends, my family and my job because of my constant desire to eat doritos and drink mountain dew. My favorite games would be Mass Effect 3 and Portal 2. I believe that Wii Sports is a game in the right direction where it can move hardcore gamers to become fit and enjoy what they love. Maybe one day I will become a hardcore gamer. But until that day I won't give up.

  • Jutinawe - 5 years ago

Wii sports has sold over 79.60 million copies. the economy has spoken people.

  • Dengar - 5 years ago

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker! One of the best Zelda games ever! People who doesn't like it, haven't even played it. Judging a book by it's cover. If they play it will understand why this game beats all the other games of the list. Great story, play control, music, characters... A MASTERPIECE! Not saying the other games are not great, the sure are incredible, but everything in The Wind Waker is better. The Wind Waker all the way is the BEST!

  • Me - 5 years ago

    Seriously weak list.

Not a single sports game? No credit for truly unique gameplay like Guitar hero or rock band? No strategy games of any kind?

If there is such a thing as "greatest game" there should at least be more variety than "generic platformer A" vs "generic platformer B" vs "generic FPS C" vs World of Warcraft.

  • Ninjoe - 5 years ago

Easily Portal. It shouldn't have anything to do with length (because most games these days are very short with just a lot of filler) but instead what is the most fun and engaging game to play. For me that's Portal and Portal2 along with inFamous 1&2, but since those aren't an options it's easily Portal.

  • Mp3 - 5 years ago

I think Mass Effect 2 deserves game of the decade, Batman Arkham City was a close second for me but i think mass effect 2 had the bigger impact in gaming today than other high profile games.

  • Ross Turbo - 5 years ago

While I am sure all of these games are good the best is clearly Portal you uncultured Philistines.

  • j - 5 years ago

I agree with g. How do you leave off any of the Uncharted games. Lame list. That being said, Red Dead was the one of the best games i've played.

  • CassidyStormZeeeeeeelda! - 5 years ago

WINDWAKER!?!?!!!?!??!!? would have prefered twilight princess but zelda all the way!!!! great story and very devisive overall AMAZING game! WW WW WW!

  • hec archundia - 5 years ago

PLEASE, EW STAFF. DO NOT take these results to announce the game of the decade. there are a lot of variables like age and fanatism that do not reflect the true meaning of videogames.

  • littlemissgleek - 5 years ago

I've never played any of the other games (excluding wii sports of course) so GO WINDWAKER!

  • derpaherp - 5 years ago

While some important games are missing (metroid prime), and some stupid games are on the list (arkham city, wii sports, ME2 over ME1). At least my favorite game (SotC) was on the list.

  • Steven - 5 years ago

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. It has the word "Legend" in the title for a reason.

  • The Hylian Monolith - 5 years ago

It's an easy choice for me: THE WIND WAKER.
I see oso amy people choosing games because they love the storyline, the gameplay, the graphics, or the ingenuity, and WW fits all of these reasons, without a doubt. Its toon grahpics were hated by many but revolutionary in the game-making world like much of the game, the plot was touching and compelling, and the gameplay was simplistic but still amazing. The game had you solve ingenous puzzles in unique was that would sometimes evade me for weeks on end. I enjoyed WW immensely, and maybe this is just my biased thinking as a biased Zelda fan, but the FPSs on there seemed to be less revolutionary than common, and the only other one that could really deserve the spot of Best Game in the Decade on that list is Portal, but I loved tWW even more.

Yes, I have played WiiSports, and it was unique and smooth, but it got dull really fast. Yes, I have played Portal, and it was super fun, with awesome puzzles and even a plot. And don't you try to tell me to go play an FPS and then come vote: I ahve played Mass Eeffect 2 and it was reasonably fun, but it just didn't seem to reach me as much as WW. The plot was good, but The Wind Waker still wins.

If for nothing else, it was the only Zelda game to ever have the word "the" in its name, and that in itself is amazing. And it had Aryll, Medli, and Tetra in one game. And it had awesome music.

  • yoshi182 - 5 years ago

Wind Waker. Never expected it to be here, but since it is, GO WIND WAKER.

  • Erik - 5 years ago

Wind Waker? Seriously? Who the fuck picked this list? Wind Waker is easily one of the most unpopular Zelda titles in existence. Why not Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword?

  • Boris Gunalli - 5 years ago

    Half-life 2.
    No doubt.
    The game that changed everything.

VALVE - Half Life 2 - all the way. Best story and game play ever.

  • obZen - 5 years ago

Hard choice between Bioshock and Mass Effect 2.
both were visceral but chose Mass effect 2, It had 12 different story lines (recruiting/loyalty) and the Collector/Reaper plot.
