Do you agree with Chris Rock? Are today's comedians just not very funny?

Too much singing and dancing in comedy today. back in the day there weren't any DJ's part of comedy shows until Def Jam introduced the great Kid Capri. White clubs still hold on to that original formula by bringing the comics up to a round of applause while black rooms must have music in order to start their show or even do their routine leaving their performance in the hands of a DJ who is only getting paid $50 and free drinks AND have to pay attention to a comic's set to hit the music on que? That's a set up for disaster. Black comedy clubs let any comic on stage as long as they can bring a group of friends and family to put in the seats and that goes to show that there is no true respect for the game anymore. It's turned into being about quantity and not quality. Being from Chicago I've seen the game change since Bernie Mac has left which he did it with class and respect for the Art. Comics need to stop going for the easy laughs, write something meaningful and stop Mantanning on stage. Comics 15 years and up in the game don't like to work out at rooms where you have go up behind a concert fill off song and dance that just killed and then when you hit the stage all the genius, brilliant material that you've taken time to brainstorm and write goes over the audiences' head because they're conditioned to the garbage that's given. Jokes are great to make people laugh but even greater when you make them think at the same time. If you're ever in Chicago come visit my night for real laughs and genius material and yes it's a black comedy production. WELCOME BACK, COMEDY!!! A playground for the veterans. Where originality once lived. Follow me on twitter @bcoleworld

I must respectfully disagree with Chris....but the point JJ made was right on point....the white rooms just won't book us unless you are one of the 10 black comics that they keep rotating...then they bring they're own set up opener and that cancels ALL the really funny comics who can't get the proper look ...that can play any room ans smash every time....its really sad...and the bringer rooms are killing the game as Maurice said...you don't even have to be funny and how much does Twitter really help ...really....

He's right in a way. The issue is, if the comics who work only thier ethnic crowds could get the shot to work the other (white) clubs, they would be making "everybody laugh" all the time. The white club owners don't want to book or give spots to a lot of black, and other comics. Trust me. A lot of us don't have "situattional comedy/jokes" but we can't get booked in white clubs because those comedy club owner see a "situation" when we walk in the door. When those situational comics get the opportunity to work non-situational crowds, they do very well. But if they can't get booked, they go where they are welcome...back to their "situational" settings. That's the real situation!

Rock is right, The thing that's killing comedy is these clubs that are doing bringer show, What that is is a comedy club will give you a spot on their stage if you bring 8 people to come see you. You don't even have to be funny , You just need 8 people. Icall these guys replacement comics. The game is all fucked up now.

Louis C.K. is totally underrated, but aside from the ones Chris Rock mentioned and maybe one or two others I completely agree!
