One Bad Apple was my favorite. That song is still stuck in my head and I love it.
Aside from the crystal empire every episode has been great.
I just don't understand the appeal of Trixie. I was a good episode, I've just never liked her.

(Bah hah hah, it cut out the rest of my message because I used a less-than sign as part of an emoticon and it thought it was HTML...)

    (Here's the whole comment.)

Sleepless in Ponyville, because it was as solid as a tank and dealt every card correctly. It went straight for RD and Scoots building a relationship form the beginning of the episode, and oh my god did it pay off. That scene at the end where RD essentially adopts her is the most heartwarming scene I've seen in a long, long time. It is the only episode that contains legitimate diabetus. I actually went "Awwww :'D" at the very end, and this show's canon has never made me do that before.

I couldn't vote simply because every episode so far has been awesome in their own ways and I hope the rest of the season is just as good.

wonderbolt academy was weak (probably because rainbow dash episode [even though 'read it and weep' was amazing]) one bad apple was the best cmc episode with best song so far, too many pinkie pies was a pinkie (best pony) episode so of course its epic, the crystal empire, when twilight sparkle was crying, it gave me the feels, sleepless in ponyville was a scootaloo episode where luna returned, and magic dual was the episode where trixie returned and had LOADS of fan-service, and twilight and trixie were moved up in my pony list because of it soooooo... magic dual is best so far, and im not just saying magic dual is the best episode in general so far because of be maybe thinking seth is a dream crusher and to tell him that this is not the best episode so far later on in the show just to do the same, i actually think its best episode :)

  • Josh - 11 years ago

    Wonderbolts academy by far..,.

However if it had been best song: You would have definitely had to go with Babs Seed from One Bad Apple... it's the new Winter Wrap Up!

  • Millstone - 11 years ago

You can do it, Sleepless in Ponyville. That overrated showmare does not beat Luna-induced scootalove. No way!

  • Trey - 11 years ago

Sleepless in Ponyville was a long time coming. Scootaloo is my favorite of the CMC and she's the only one who hadn't had an episode of her own. I couldn't stop smiling during it, as I've been waiting and waiting for a Scoot-centric episode and I finally got it.

  • Issac - 11 years ago

I honestly love Magic Duel soley for the fact that Trixie trips in the end. :D

  • Bronwyn - 11 years ago

    You can't make me choose!
Alas, I instinctively chose Pinkie Pie, from the initial reactions off everyone and myself because of how hilarious it was.
Magic Duel had great Twilight and Zecora and teamwork and everything,
One Bad Apple was adorable and had good morals,
The Crystal Empire was awesome and the music was just asdfghjkl,
Sleepless in Ponyville was a Scootaloo episode which made me laugh and it was cool,
And Wonderbolt Academy involved Spitfire and the Wonderbolts so it was amazing.
This show is amazing, never mind one episode! So back to my original point(ish): how CAN you choose?!

  • Name - 11 years ago

    Magic Duel leads?

    Go to bed, seth.

  • Init3 - 11 years ago

This was the hardest decision I've had to make all year. I kind of wanted to vote for them all.

  • Millennial Dan - 11 years ago

Ugh, why do so many people like Wonderbolt Academy so much. It was truly weak.

Too many Pinkie Pies was far better, and yet it gets so little love, from the looks of it. That's just sad.

  • Jack - 11 years ago

My favourite episodes are The Crystal Empire, Magic Duel and Wonderbolt Academy. Ones I like are Too Many Pinkie Pies and One Bad Apple. I don't like Sleepless in Ponyville; it's just so boring to me.
Out of the three 'great' ones I chose, I think I'd choose Magic Duel. Not particularly because of Trixie, honestly I don't really care about her. I just thought the episode was epic, in my opinion.

  • enigmatic73 - 11 years ago

but ....but.... "too many pinkies" is full of random things and laughs ):

  • Ahrom - 11 years ago

For me, Magic Duel beat Too Many Pinkie Pie's by a tiny bit. Pinkie Pie is one of my favorite characters in the show so, obviously I'm biased for loving her episode so much. I loved how her character development was greatly shown in her more serious dimension rather than her normal silly/random/desperate sides. It's very human and I favor her even more after this episode. Another thing that I like about Too Many Pinkie Pie's is the dark vibe of the episode. Those moments where no one couldn't decide which is the real Pinkie and the viewers who can obviously distinguish her from the fakes presents a lot of darkness to the section. It's as if Pinkie Pie had already lost hope in trying to prove or be with her friends again. Another dark moment was where they show how all the fake Pinkie Pie's rampaging all over the screen and surrounding the real Pinkie Pie giving that complete lost of hope of ever winning. In bonus, those little moments where Pinkie was about to cry almost made me tear up.

Now, Magic Duel must've had something better for me to choose it over Too Many Pinkie Pie's. Too Many Pinkie Pie's starred my favorite Mane Six pony, developed her character more deeply, and presented a good gloomy plot. So, what did Magic Duel have that I had to vote on that episode over Pinkie's episode? Let's start off with Trixie. This episode marks the return of the Great and Powerful Trixie except this time, she's evil and more powerful. I thought the show was giving a shout out to the fans when they made a show with Trixie's return so, I was extremely grateful. Besides that, the episode was just amazing with its action-oriented plot where Twilight trains to defeat the evil Trixie. Everything presented in the episode supports its goodness with bits such as having her friends being picked on and being banished from her own town. This is one of the reasons I loved this episode. Yet, this wasn't enough to beat Too Many Pinkie Pie's. Another major element being placed into the episode was Fluttershy. Twilight wasn't the only star in this episode but, Fluttershy made an excellent co-star. This is one of the things the show hardly does. They usually have episodes based on one certain character which I won't complain since I understand the need to build background and character before we can see anything more in later seasons. But having Fluttershy co-star in this episode might've just shown the checkpoint everyone's been waiting for. Not to mention, Fluttershy was very comical in a sense in this episode. I laughed a lot at her moments such as the parts where she was just afraid to take one for the team and freaks out. Her facial expression was hilarious! All in all, we knew she had it to be brave and got what we wanted.

As of said before, I was debating heavily between Magic Duel and Too Many Pinkie Pie's but, I guess Magic Duel won this one. Co-starring Fluttershy was the icing on the cake and I guess that had to be the deal breaker when it goes against a Pinkie Pie episode.

To be honest, I would have waited the air of the next two episodes before to open this poll. Anyway I will vote Magic Duel but I want to share my opinion on the 4 episodes I really loved of the S3:

    -Too Many Pinkie Pies: I loved this episode, not only because it's really fun and enjoyable, but because it developed Pinkie Pie more, and we saw her serious parts of character when she has fears that can't be with her friends anymore;
    -Magic Duel: my new favorite episode of all time. It's really dark, epic and even funny. Also, thanks to this episode I love both Twilight and Trixie more than before;
    -Sleepless in Ponyville: another episode with good character development. It built a good sister relationship between Scootaloo and RD, even they are not genetically sisters. Also since I'm a Luna fan, I really loved her too in this episode, and we discovered another her characteristic;
-Wonderbolt Academy: RD at the best she can be. I just loved her in this episode and I also loved both Spitfire and Lighting Dust. And for everyone saying that Pinkie was to exagerated... rewatch Party of One again...

So, these are my favorite episodes of the season so far. This is just my opinion. If you don't agree with me, I don't blame you.

  • Solo - 11 years ago

Sleepless was one of the most rewatchable episodes I've seen. Scoots is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters partly because she's shown a lot of growth potential in this series. Look forward to seeing any progress in her relationship with Dash in the future
    .

  • Rallinale - 11 years ago

I voted for Sleepless in Ponyville. The reason why I think this episode is the best of Season 3 so far is mostly due to the character development Scootaloo got in this episode, and how it focuses on her relationship with Rainbow Dash.

  • Juvy_genius - 11 years ago

I had to go with Sleepless in Ponyville and will illiterate why I chose this rather than the other two that are high (being Magic Duel and Wonderbolt Academy).

Sleepless in Ponyville- The very first Scootaloo episode and by god did it not disappoint. The episode had some very funny gags. It had a healthy mix of verbal gags and visual gags which made the episode lively. It also did an impressive job in going with continuity by referencing a few lessons learned in previous episodes. Also helped that this was not a "find our cutie marks" episode which with two eps being like this so far is leading me to believe that all the CMC have progressed as characters. Before I get to the last point, I notice people think others choose this simply because of Luna. I for one am not really a huge fan of Luna, though I will say that she has gained more respect than I can say for Celestia with this episode. The last point of course delves into the plot itself which was dealt with to perfection. They could have done a Scootaloo ep not delving into developing with Rainbow Dash, but they went straight for it and by golly did it pay off. This had some of the darkest elements in any episode (especially the fish dieing ;_;7) with Scootaloo's life even being at stake. Even with the jokes, the episode took itself seriously pushing boundaries you would unlikely see in any other cartoon these days. All leading up to the payoff with Rainbow Dash adopting Scootaloo as a younger sister which in my opinion was the most emotional moment I have felt in every episode of MLP (even Royal Canterlot Wedding). Well written, funny, and rewatchable.

Magic Duel- Prior to Sleepless in Ponyville, I would have said this was the best episode. Trixie returning to Ponyville has been a long time coming episode that did not disappoint. The jokes in this episode were not as strong as Sleepless in Ponyville as this episode kept to a stronger focus on the plot. What ultimately made this episode so strong though was how all the characters interacted with each other which means it was a really well written episode. What makes the episode not as good as Sleepless in Ponyville though are three things. First, Zecora training Twilight had mention of "use the six". After seeing a single scene of Zecora training her, I am left to wonder what is the six? Where did this part of training come into use? I like that it was a cool reference to Star Wars, but the training just seemed more like a filler space to have Twilight doing something that seeing a connection to the training and the battle. Second, Trixie allowing the woodland creatures out of the dome. Though I could see this being plausible within a sense. With her being corrupted, I expected her to resolve the issue through more cruel actions. They did make her waste her time to go see what the disturbance was after all. Lastly, Trixie accepting the second duel with Twilight made no sense in the least. She could have turned it down and kept boasting as she normally would. She is not really a dumb character to the point of believing that Twilight just happened to have a more powerful amulet when Twilight did not attempt to break the dome itself. I really did enjoy the episode, but rewatching it only a few times the flaws ended up sticking out.

Wonderbolt Academy- I am going to say that this episode was enjoyable to me, but One Bad Apple is closer to being best ep than this one. So just going to point out the huge flaw I can not get over. Why was Lightning Dust kicked out and Rainbow Dash a hero? In perspective they were equals and had even involvement with the mishaps. Even though RD was more sympathetic to the situations, that does not justify her becoming a hero. The twister incident that became the last straw (again RD involved) was not like they knew the other 5 were just gonna appear. Forced plot convenience in both the climax and the resolution just seem way wrong. At least make LD wing pony if you learned a lesson Spitfi

WHAT??? Too Many Pinkie Pie's is not in the lead?! That was the funniest (and best) episode so far! Magic Duel only gets so many votes because of Seth's "Vote for Trixie" brainwashing is starting to kick in. Sleepless in Ponyville gets votes only beacuse of Luna. Wonderbolt Academy was one of the worst episodes beside the Crystal Empire ones. One Bad Apple was nice and enjoyable but not the best episode either.

  • Thumper - 11 years ago

I'm kind of surprised to see that Magic Duel is winning. Guess I haven't been paying much attention to the fandom as I usually have, but I honestly didn't like that episode. My least favorite so far. I'll be rootin for Sleepless in Ponyville

  • hugeisno1 - 11 years ago

Remember that, the Wonderbolt academy is only for a week (as Rainbowdash assures her friends that she will see them in a week) I doubt that she'll be made a Wonderbolt just yet as there are dozens of other Pegusi at the Academy so it's probably only a higher Degree or certificate in Elite Flight rather than definite entry into the Wonderbolts (though she and Lightning Dust broke quite a few records) , Maby there's limited space and she has to wait for a spot to open. Still it was good to see how Rainbow Dash stuck to her morals. Loyalty and honor in it's truest form.

  • RePoisn - 11 years ago

I seriously COULD not choose between Magic Duel, Sleepless, and Wonderbolt Academy. Those episodes were just fantastic and were all equally awesome in my book. Next on my list in respective orders are Crystal Empire, One Bad Apple, then Too Many Pinkie Pies.

Magic Duel was just awesome--Trixie's return, Zecora, and lots of awesome spells.

Sleepless in Ponyville was freaking adorable. It was so sweet and heartwarming. I loved RD's and Scoot's character developments as a pair. That last scene was my favorite scene in all of season 3 so far--where Dash "adopts" Scootaloo as her apprentice/little sister.

Wonderbolt Academy was a fun and serious episode. That second to the last scene really hit me hard--how RD would sacrifice her lifelong dream for the sake of her friends. That's true loyalty right there. It had lots of funny gags too like the return of Snowflake. xD

In the end, I chose Sleepless as it was the one I enjoyed the most while watching.

  • Emillz - 11 years ago

Magic Duel because of the ending. My sides were hurting!

  • Orca - 11 years ago

I also voted for The Crystal Empire, and was surprised to see it last. Come on! What of the music!? And everything else? It was a pretty wonderful episode.

  • Dreigune - 11 years ago

I was torn pretty equally between Magic Duel and Sleepless in Ponyville, so I wound up just voting for the one of those two that had had fewer votes so far.

Wonderbolt Academy was a close third.

  • Tradley - 11 years ago

    *votes The Crystal Empire*
    *sees the results so far*
What?! How is it in last?!

  • pmcollectorboy - 11 years ago

Come on, Sleepless in Ponyville. It has to win, as the episode that had everything and was easily the most heartwarming I've seen so far.

Magic Duel, while adequate, I found sorely lacking.

  • Jaboll252 - 11 years ago

I'm voting The Crystal Empire. And nobody can stop me!

  • Bartleby - 11 years ago

@Verbose I am also surprised "Wonderbolt Academy" got as many votes as it did. I found it rather lacking; it's not that I HATED it with a BURNING PASSION like a lot of Merriweather Williams anti-fans seemed to, I just thought it was kind of boring. As I posted on reddit:

"I think I finally realized why I found this episode boring: Rainbow Dash wasn't the one who learned a lesson.

Lightning Dust and Spitfire were the ones who were in the wrong--that is, value recklessness and personal glory over cooperation and responsibility to the group--and then realized the error of their ways. But they weren't the main characters, nor were they characters who have been fleshed out over dozens of episodes. That character, the character we follow through these events, is basically just observer. She doesn't do anything wrong, observes Lightning Dust and Spitfire do wrong, and then calls them out on it.

Also, I felt Pinkie was annoying in this episode. But I guess everyone has their own Pinkie-tolerance level."

"Sleepless in Ponyville," on the other hand, was fantastic in my book. All the different parts of the episode were good, especially the jokes, but the thing that was great, the thing that propelled it into my top ten was this: two characters who definitely needed more development got it.

  • Scootaloo is better than Trixie - 11 years ago

    >Sleepless in Ponyville isn't winning

What is wrong with you people?

  • James Rye - 11 years ago

Magic Duell was awesome! Plus we got to hear the word "alicorn" in it for the first time! Though Equestria sure got alot of dangerous powerful things laying around for a peaceful country. XD

  • Quinn - 11 years ago

Why isn't there an "All of them" button? Please....? Don't make me choose... *sobs* I just can't do it! Still love Too Many Pinkie Pie's though :3

  • Gibstov - 11 years ago

I voted for Magic Duel, though Sleepless in Ponyville was also pretty good. The first Scootaloo episode, and it was great to see Rainbow Dash become her surrogate big sister.

I also enjoyed the Wonderbolt Academy episode, but I am still confused as to whether Dashie is a Wonderbolt now. If so, then I find it hard to see her in future episodes with the Mane 6. If she is not, then why not. I hope they sort this out in a future episode.

  • anonimatum - 11 years ago

I'm started to think that people vote for "sleepless in ponyville" just because Luna appear ¬¬

  • Verbose - 11 years ago

Wow. I am surprised by these results. I felt that Wonderbolt Academy was the most polarizing of episodes (perhaps Sleepless in Ponyville) according to what I read in my own community, but it doesn't speak to what respondents' least favorite episode is either, so those who might have hated those episodes (me being one of them) were equally as likely to pick any other episodes as their favorites.

I actually chose Too Many Pinkie Pies, because it was exactly what I've come to expect from the series. Magic Duel was fun too. I liked the interactions among the Mane Six in the premiere episodes, but not necessarily the episodes. One Bad Apple was good, but I never like to see characters bullied for my own entertainment as a viewer. It's a bit awkward for me.

Perhaps it is because I don't like Rainbow Dash. I think her character is and has been written well, but I don't like people like Dash, despite her good traits.

  • Thesecret110 - 11 years ago

Sleepless in Ponyville. The amount of gags was astounding and the whole thing was epic. They even added Luna and some old totally-not-scary pony. Magic Duel looked too much like fandom pampering (I mean, seriously, this episode was targeted on us!), which, while good in little dosages, in this amount undermined the usual beauty of MLP I am used. Crystal Empire was just as bad as any other two-parter (1st part great, 2nd part sucked). Too many Pinkie Pies was just... I don't know, too regular? It was good, but it just didn't deliver that little extra goodness like Sleepless in Ponyville did. One bad Apple was the same case. Wonderbolt Academy, in my opinion, really weakened RD's character, as in fulfilled her dream of being a wonderbolt, so she'll either get another life goal in the next season, or will become a pony without drive, for she already achieved everything she wanted to.

  • Alex - 11 years ago

I believe this will be a close battle between Magic Duel and Sleepless in Ponyville. I voted for MD but it was really hard to pick between those two.
