They are already paid to do their job - and yes, I respect teachers. Who would regulate "merit" pay? Having worked as a Registered Nurse for 38 years, we were never offered (nor asked for) "merit" pay and, unlike teachers, worked shifts covering 24/7/365 including Christmas, etc. Never had 19 days off over Christmas vacation either!
