What do you think of Kate's portrait?

It is not a good portrait of Princess Kate at all. She is such a beautiful woman and this portrait does not due her justice. It makes her look old and beyond her years. Hopefully they will paint a new one to show how she really looks----which is absolutely stunning.

I think the top half of her face is "right on the money". The bottom of her face makes her look old and hard; almost "pinched". Softening up those lines on her cheeks and chin and making her lips look softer would go a long way to making this a more lovely painting. She is truly beautiful and I think Diana would have been so proud.

The portrait of Kate is beautiful. After reading what a few people said negatively about it, it didn't change my mind. She is lovely!

  • Ginny Giardini - 11 years ago

Kate is so beautiful. This i unflattering - looks nothing like her -- makes her look old and harsh -- both of which she is not. They should redo. One hundred years from now people would wonder what handsome Will saw in her. Get rid of it!!!

Kate is one of the most beautiful ladies. Most pictures capture her true beauty. Unfortunately, the portrait does not do her justice. She is absolutely gorgeous! Of course her husband, Prince William was being gracious & didn't want to insult the artist. Prince William would love any portrait of the love of his life, his beautiful, sweet, adorable wife, Kate!

I believe we have to remember," we" did not do the portrait. The artist did, and it is his renditon, and she looks lovely. If you have seen portraits, they are not pictures, they are expressions of the soul. Lovely lady.

It doesn't do her justice at all!!! Her mouth looks very strange & should have shown her true beautiful smile. I guess what else could they say after the "artist" spent 3 months on it-that it sucks??? I doubt it, both have to much class for that but I sure wouldn't display it for all to see, I'd commission another artist if I were them.

Katherine is a beautiful young lady but this does not give her justice. It's not showing her eyes as it should. They are beautiful and also her dimples should show. She has a beautiful smile.

  • Gail - 11 years ago

There is certainly no doubt as to who the painting represents. She is just much more beautiful than the painting shows. Her smile is gorgeous and her dimples are gorgeous. This painting misses those qualities.

I think it catches Kate just how she looks in pictures. I love it! I think it expresses her just how she really is.

  • Maureen - 11 years ago

Kate is a beautiful lady and this portrait makes her look old and harsh.

  • Dana - 11 years ago

On second thought, did he paint her from what she looked like in the hospital being gravely ill in her 1st trimester? That I could understand. That this portrait will be handed down thru the ages for all to see how this amazingly gorgeous royal was depicted by this artist is just sad.

  • Dana Lagano Lowenstein - 11 years ago

I didn't think it was possible to make Catherine look anything but beautiful. It looks as tho he was trying to make her look like Mona Lisa! Her eyes look like a photo taken when someone is about to blink. Do over!!!

  • ellyn - 11 years ago

Makes her look much older than her actual years

  • Lindy Gray - 11 years ago

Horrible. She's such a beautiful woman. That picture does her NO justice at all!

  • EL - 11 years ago

The world has become a world of shallow people. The eyes are a window into your soul(most people dont have one these days). the eyes are really nice and whoever painted it can paint.

    Off With His HEAD!

  • Susann Daren - 11 years ago

Kate is a genuine , natural beauty. This painting does not capture the real Kate. But if she is happy with it, who are we to criticize???

  • Dan - 11 years ago

A portrait is always a negotiation between the artist and subject. The subject has input and ownership, and if Kate said she likes the portrait, then the artist has done his job (which is a very difficult job indeed!). Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and in this case that eye has studied Kate and reflected her as HE sees her, not as WE see her. She has accepted that. So our opinions don't count.

  • Ron Morris - 11 years ago

I agree with ALL the "unflattering" comments. ...How ANYONE can say the Portrait is Good, is amazing to me.

  • Tone - 11 years ago

Kate is so beautiful inside and out! This portrait of her does not capture her true beauty, nor her inner beauty! I am so dumb-founded that William liked this portrait of Kate? It's a shame this picture will be displayed as a royal portrait of Kate, not really the true vision of a beautiful person!

  • Blanca Cox - 11 years ago

Ghostly, lifeless almost spooky.....! The painter failed to capture Kate's radiance and brought forth only the outline of her beauty in a moment of moment of pain! He should redo the portrait or someone else should be commissioned to paint another.

  • Gidget McGittigan - 11 years ago

Makes her look old. Very unbecoming. She is a beautiful young lady.

  • Sonja - 11 years ago

She is far more beautiful than the portrait shows. Maybe history wants her to look more regal which is why she is not smiling with an open mouth. If she and William are happy with it, that is all that counts.

  • JEN - 11 years ago

This portrait makes her look older than she is and really tired around the eyes. She does not
look like this in real life.

  • Susie Diamond - 11 years ago

This is the most UNflattering photo I have ever seen of Kate. She is a beautiful, vivacious woman and this does not do her justice.

  • PJ - 11 years ago

This might be Kate 10 years from now. The softness in her face is lost. Kate displays a warmth with roses in her cheeks. None of that is captured in the painting.

  • DCB - 11 years ago

she is a beautiful girl and has a wonderful smile ...why not show that on her face.

  • Dione - 11 years ago

She has such a beauitful smile ...I think it should have had that....

  • Pamela Lopez - 11 years ago

It's more like a smirk than a smile, nothing like her happy face in reality. The dark colors diminish the shining quality of her true beauty.

  • doll - 11 years ago

She usually looks rather distinguished and beautiful. This picture does not show how she really looks. The photographer did not do a good job. She looks like she has half a smile. It doesn't do her justice.

  • Debra - 11 years ago

Kate is such a beautiful woman! I don't understand why they chose such a dark background and dark clothing! It looks rather depressing...

  • D - 11 years ago

The painting looks like a ghostly apparition...and Kate is Anything But that !

  • P. Chavous - 11 years ago

What a disappointment. How polite they were. He aged her 30 years!

  • P. Chavous - 11 years ago

What a disappoinment. How polite they were. He aged her 30 years!

  • Mrs. B - 11 years ago

She is much prettier than this portrait. One eye looks smaller than the other and the smile looks forced and not natural. If we hadn't seen her so much on TV, we might think differently of this portrait.

  • Barbara - 11 years ago

I don't think "unflattering" is the best choice of words, but I don't really care for it. Several reasons--there is no color or light, no open smile. We always see her with color, bright shining eyes, and a gorgeous full-on smile. But if she and Prince William like it, then that is the main thing.

  • Donna Vilalta - 11 years ago

It's obvious this is a very good painter, and while he may have caught her natural beauty, it is very disappointing to see his perspective of her as tired and exhausted looking. She is such an energetic figure with a great love of life, and this likeness does not communicate that at all.

  • REB54 - 11 years ago

Kate's eyes and mouth needed to be softened to elicit her beautiful smile.

  • Laurie - 11 years ago

Something about the eyes make her look old. That's what I noticed first. Then, we are not used to seeing her without that radiant smile. So while the royals may find it lovely, those of us who don't know her personally are not appreciative.

  • dEBI - 11 years ago

I agree she looks so much better with her "GORGEOUS" SMILE!!!
Not as flattering as she really is............

  • Rosemarie - 11 years ago

It makes her look much older, and detracts from her natural beauty. She needs no enhancements of any kind. A simple picture of her smiling would have been glorious!

  • Linda Vaughn - 11 years ago

The portrait is ok, but I dont think it does her justice. She is way prettier than that .

  • Donna - 11 years ago

It's the eyes that I think do her no justice. Her eyes always bright and not sleepy looking.

  • Mary - 11 years ago

The most flattering pictures of Kate are when she smiles showing teeth. Then her entire face lights up. Apparently the compromise was just a "Madonna like" smile and is much better than no smile at all. I do not know why anyone would say the portrait was "unflattering". I do not think that is the appropriate word. It may not have been her most beautiful pose but it is still a lovely picture. If she liked it and her husband thinks it is beautiful, who are these snobs who probably criticize everything. Sometimes beauty is in "imperfection".
