When I was an atheist, I didn't have any big problem with ceremonial deism or public officials making vague and what I though were harmless references to God.
Now that I'm a Christian, I have a problem with it, since it feels like me imposing my beliefs on others. I also don't like ceremonial deism because it dilutes the real thing. But at the same time, I'm inspired by Obama enlisting religious metaphors that I believe will help rally the country for progressive change in a way that secular metaphors alone can't.
I don't know how to resolve that conflict in my mind. Can anyone suggest anything?
