Should the Edmonton Public School Board allow field trips to Idle No More protests?

The teachers taught both sides of the debate prior to the trip, all students got permission from their parents to witness the protest. Those that made signs or participated did on their own free will. They had a choice to attend and a choice to participate or just watch. It was a lesson on the power of freedom of expression. Real, authentic learning. No text book could ever teach that so explicitly. Good for those teachers. No one should be so quick to judge without knowing the whole story.

This is ridiculous. I agree that we need change for aboriginal people in this country however using children to push your political agenda in public schools is a joke. I don't understand how the public school system can want to eradicate Christmas celebrations yet they let teachers push political agendas on the children they teach. Teachings are suppose to be unbiased. Shame on the teacher and school board for letting this happen. There are ways to protest that don't involve exploiting children, road blocking and using scare tactics. If it were my child I would snap because idle no more is associated with Teresa spence, roadblocks, and non peaceful protest. Shame on you guys!!!!!

Absolutely! these students have obviously been taught current and historical facts in their classroom and are choosing to get involved. In turn, they may go home and teach their parents/family members the truth. The history of indigineous peoples of Canada and struggles with our government is lacking in our educational system's curriculum. Bravo Delton Elementary School!:)

Yes of course why not..its about time the younger generation non-native and native learn what should have been taught many years ago, so they don't(non-native) learn or belive the negative about our history and who we are as a people. Yes thanks you edmonton Public school...hai hai.

The 'Idle No More' demonstration, Round Dances and Walks are peaceful and are only about bringing awareness. Why shouldn't students be apart of them? It is their future and their childrens future we are coming together to preserve.
Way to go Delton Elementary.. It is an experience no matter what the overall outcome, that the dstudents will always remember and say "i was apart of that" :)
