Do you care if Beyonce lip-synced the national anthem?

who cares. it's been a fake in washington for the last 4 years. why should this matter

  • James C - 11 years ago

There would have been just as much controversy if she had made mistakes while singing The National Anthem as there is over her lip syncing it I think that no matter what people would have found some thing to make a fuse about. People are not really happy unless they are bitching about something

Well I remember there was a lot of slack paid to Nilli Vanilli (I think that's how they spell it) years ago & it ruined their careers; they were actually very good at it ; but they were ruined, my point is: Who do celebrities think they are? If she was going to lip sinc it should have been noted & worked out with the rest of the musicians, I think Boyance is a little full of herself. I think whynotlive hit it on the head; dead on.

  • Wayne - 11 years ago

Why have anything live???? Let's fake it all.... Be personable put your heart into it, be real. Take a risk.

  • Jay Zimberg - 11 years ago

If you liked that lip-syncing fiasco, just wait, my friends, for the Super Bowl halftime show. Lip sync city here we come! What a joke. I remember when performers performed. LIVE. How did the stars of yesterday ever survive?

  • merry - 11 years ago

i cant unterstand why she pick the time of all times to do this why? if it is true.

  • mark - 11 years ago

I just watched the video and thought it could be live because of when she breathed. If she faked it, it's better than having voice cracking or screeching at such an important time. The main thing is SHE sang it not someone else.

  • Debra - 11 years ago

I voted "yes", but I honestly feel that the news media is blowing the whole incident way out of proportion. If it did (indeed) happen? It must have been an artistic decision on her part to do so. I'm guessing that she's a "perfectionist". Come on-- really it doesn't make a difference in the way the world turns. I would have enjoyed it either way, recorded or not. I could have (just as well) voted "no". But I would have preferred to have heard the "live version". Love her (either way).

  • Jacob - 11 years ago

Seriously, people need to get over it. It is not that serious. We all know she can sing, probably one of the best singers around today, but no one knows what the conditions were. There could of been reasons for why doing so. This girl is always receiving some kind of hatred from others & it's so wrong America. Grow up! Its not like it wasn't her voice. A pre record is a live recording that has no edits, and I gotta say that was some amazing singing. So, stop giving her all this backlash, and another thing, SHUT UP about how you don't like when stars do there own renditions, who gives a ****. No one sings it that way anymore. If she would of done it simple you guys would of been saying "oh that was horrible, they should of asked some else to sing it." So im tired of all this. Just SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!

  • Norma Acayan - 11 years ago

Who cares? She was smarter than I thought by doing so. She did an excellent performance. Who started this gossip anyway?

  • MrsFern - 11 years ago

You know all these singing artist were recogized because of their talent but to stand up in front of thousands of people and not show off your talent, is very sad. I hope her and her husband don't lie to their kid.

  • Patrick - 11 years ago

As far as I am conserned, she didn't do a very good job of singing it. I noticed at about half through it she seem to lose some words in which case you couldn't understand just what she was saying. If you really want to hear a great verison of this song, look up Kate Smith from the 1940's. The best there was.

  • Gary H - 11 years ago

For how much longer do we have to continue to crawl as low as possible under rocks to find something or someone to whine about!!!

  • Barb - 11 years ago

I agree with Elle. I hate when the anthem is sung differently than it was intended. I am sick of these singers trying to "modernize it". Sing it the way Frances Scott Key intended or opt out of singing it if asked. Plain and simple. I heard the excuses why she lipsynced it..she did not get to rehearse it. PLEASE. James Taylor and Kelly Clarkson somehow got to rehearse and the cold air did not seem to bother them or hinder their performances. I am not and never was a Beyonce fan. Tired of seeing and hearing about her. There are much better performers and singers out there (sorry, Kanye West).

  • Summergirl - 11 years ago

Yes, I care that she attempted to deceive the audience. For goodness sake, this was the Presidential Inauguration!! Shame on her. Everyone on that stage may have a little case of nerves, but they did their best and were original. She should have done the same in honor of President Obama. How disrespectful can one get??

  • Eileen - 11 years ago

I think it is dishonest to lip sync when you are supposed to be singing live. You dont know if that is really her voice. Even I could sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl if I could lip sync.

  • Pat - 11 years ago

Its really not important....Whats important is the 20 children getting killed, the killing in Texas campus....Sandy hurrican which thousands of people lost their homes .....thats what is important.....At least she sang it better than some of the other singers in past times......ITS NOT IMPORTANT....

  • Linda Ridener Dickson - 11 years ago

My sentiment is . . . . Who cares? I am a professionally trained musician. Those of us who have sung the National at public functions, particularly outdoor venues, completely understand the concept of pre-recorded performances. Mother nature, Murphy's law, and the devil in the details will inevitably throw you a curve. The bigger the production, the more things that have the potential to go wrong. It is hard to imagine how wind, dust, trash, bugs, ambient noise and a hundred other things can put a hitch in an open air performance. Having the performance pre-recorded allows the show to go on as scheduled.

Those who whine about using pre-recorded music need to consider the difficult technical aspects of trying to perform in outdoor venues. They need to try it a few times.

  • Elle - 11 years ago

I care! Dan right I do! How dare she cheat us, which is what she did. She copped out and led us to believe she was singing live. It should have been announced "that due to____________ Beyonce will lip sync.

What those under the age of 40 do not 'get' nor will they ever,is that THIS IS THE NATIONAL ANTHEM. It is to be sung accordingly. Aside from the lip syncing, she took liberties with the song, raised the key on several places and when it came to the Land of the Free, her style was Feeeeeeeee- eeeeeeeee. There is no lilting. This is not Amercian Idol or a their newest recording. The disrespect for this country is one reason why America is in the bues. Lots of class - all low. I was not moved by Bey or the President. Talk about a most boring event.

  • CJCotter - 11 years ago

Beyonce looks great no matter what she does. It was her own voice, anyway, live or recorded. Doesn't matter to me.

  • Leah Parks - 11 years ago

I agree we have so much more important things to dwell on...it was accepted by President
Obama. Plus...there are many singers who guard their voices in really cold weather. I'm
sure Beyonce' has her voice insured and is going to make sure she takes care of it. It was
    totally beautiful.

  • JoAnn - 11 years ago

I believe we have gotten so taken by NON-IMPORTANT issues in this world, when we have so many other IMPORTANT issues to be concerned like, our SERVICE MEN & WOMEN AT WAR, PEOPLE WHO ARE HUNGRY & LIVING ON THE STREETS, etc., that we need to use our strength to help with getting these mentioned HELP!!! Come on lets get real, she sang it whether there or other places, beautiful & meaningful that we should just be glad we have someone with such a beautiful voice to sing for our enjoyment.

  • Evemo - 11 years ago

All the other artist sang live. Kelly Clarkson hit it out of the park and she didn't lip sync! It just shows what a diva Beyonce has become!

  • Jerry - 11 years ago

Having watched the performance as broadcasted by CNN, it did not appear she was lipsincing. Since she pulled out the earbud at one point how could she have been listening to a prerecording? However, singing live with a live band playing some distance from (and below) you is a major challenge; she may have been getting sound feedback with the earbud on the crescendo part. Anyway, it is an unconfirmed rumor and who cares; it was an outstanding performance!

  • Jeanette - 11 years ago

Beyonce is beauty and No Substance to me. and I am entitled to My own opinion, she should have sang at this very Special Moment, and Not have lip-synced.(period)!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Connie McCoy - 11 years ago

Those who can't, hate. Get over it. It was beautiful on a beautiful occasion. I anticipate her super Bowl appearance and appreciate that she will be giving me a HBO concert as a birthday present this year 2/16/13!

  • Gil - 11 years ago

    I'm with Graybeard

  • heyjudeOregon - 11 years ago

IF KELLY CLARKSON AND JAMES TAYOR CAN SING LIVE.....SO CAN BEYONCE!! KELLY CLARKSON ALSO HAD A DIFFICULT SONG TO SING. NO EXCUSES.

  • Barb - 11 years ago

She should Just admit it and explain why.
As long as it was really her on recording!!!
    Otherwise, no big deal!!

  • TX Vic - 11 years ago

It's mundane and it shouldn't matter but it is an important day for our country. This falls in the same category of lip syncing at the Grammys. Your "job" is to sing, good bad or otherwise.

  • Skyman - 11 years ago

She is a PROFESSIONAL! She should have sang it even if she was afraid to make a mistake -that's what she gets paid for! Do we ask baseball players to play a video of their Home Run when they come to bat the next time? NO! Do we allow the President to show photos of him signing ANY bill he signed in the past? NO! Can I play a tape of me working and get paid for it? NO - I would get fired if I did that! Do your job Beyonce - you have a great voice - now use it!

  • Rich Pavicic - 11 years ago

if she got paid for it she should have actually sang it, if not mox-nix

  • pebbles - 11 years ago

For goodness sake, at least she didn't slaughter it like Roseanne or forget the words...people just have to have something to be critical about! I thought the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, James Taylor, Kelly Clarkson, and Beyonce were excellent!!!!

  • Teresa - 11 years ago

Considering it was an honor to be asked to sing at the inauguration, she should have honored the President by singing it live. Perhaps, someone with less celebrity status should have been asked and I'm sure would have done it with great pride. Anyone think to ask how much she will be making performing at the Super Bowl? That too, I'm sure will not be done live, but it is of less importance than singing at the inauguration.

  • KayPhillipsBeazley - 11 years ago

I thought it was beautiful. It was her voice - what does it matter anyway. Focus on something else and move-on. The people who don't like President Obama, he was re-elected for four more years. Sounds like "sour grapes" to me. Get over it.

  • hobo bob - 11 years ago

Considering how mundane the event at which she lip-synched was, it really didn't matter. In fact, her performance might just as well have been video-taped and played back on the 55" B/W big screen in front of the podium for all to see. It would have been even BETTER had Ernie Kovacs and the Nairobi Trio been hired to perform. Now, THAT, I would have watched!

  • Mark H - 11 years ago

Why did we need her there if she pre-recorded the song. Use a cut out of her next time.

  • Ashleyangel - 11 years ago

It is only fitting that a singer lip-sync the Nation Anthem since she was singing at the inauguration of a phony President who has no respect or good intentions for the heart of America, but if it were any other President, Democrat or Republican, then I believe that the song should be sung from the heart and therefore, their real voice.

  • Diane Anderson - 11 years ago

No. It was beautiful! It was her voice.
I think it was a smart move, considering how cold it was...
even James Taylor mentioned how hard it was to play the guitar in those conditions.
Some people make it their past-time to try to find fault in others.
It must be exhausting to be so critical!

  • Paula Welsh - 11 years ago

People appreciate genuine. I remember talking to a some Vietnam era vets after Whitney Houston lip synced to her own voice the National Anthem & I said Ethel Mermon wouldn't have done that, they all laughed and said "they don't make'em like Ethel any more". I've heard 10 year olds sing in front of packed sports stadiums, inflictions in the voice are sincere & meaningful. I lost all respect for Whitney when she did it now Beyonce, what a bore. Get someone trying out for "The Voice" next time, Amanda Brown would have represented the true American Spirit. U.S.A. is in turmoil, now more than ever we sure could use "truth in performance".

  • Bobbie Janice Cason - 11 years ago

I don't care if she did or didn't lip sync , I thought her rendition was one of the best I've heard from a lot of these so called entertainers, a lot who have butchered it. She did our country proud and I hope she is asked to perform for many more football and baseball games.

  • jeff - 11 years ago

interesting that the announcer afterwards, on whatever station I was watching, when she handed back the microphone said something like "wow, she really didn't need that microphone for this. She could be heard without it!"

  • Mark Burchard - 11 years ago

Believe me, its almost impossible to give a decent performance in freezing temperatures and with the band at such a distance. I asked several professional opera singers about this and they all said that they would never put themselves in that kind of situation because the sound spreads and defuses outside. James Taylor is a brilliant performer, but he should have been taped. We'll never know what that song sounded like to the President and his family. What a shame!
If they can, and they do, prerecord the half time show at the Olympics and during the Super Bowl half time show to produce a decent sound, why shouldn't they do it at an Inauguration with half of the worlds population watching???

  • Carol - 11 years ago

With all the problems in the world today why are we so upset over this? Beyoncé is a great singer and beautiful person and to sing in the cold and under that much stress and pressure its just not a big deal that it was prerecorded. Hopefully this won't be the topic of everyone's minds for very long. Get over it and move on.

  • Priscilla - 11 years ago

We do know that this woman has a voice. Most of today's so called "stars" lipsync their concerts because they can't sing outside of their canned studios, meaning anyone with with the right publicist could be a Justin Beiber or Britney Spears.

  • Lin - 11 years ago

IT MATTERS!! If it were James Taylor that did the faking.. there might be riots!! Two GREAT performers stepped up and PERFORMED!! She uses hype to make it through, I would sound great singing with all the editing that is done in the studio too! Don't pretend.. do the best that you can do, no one was asking for more than that, and we certainly did not ask for a fake!

  • Sharla - 11 years ago

It should have been "pre-announced" that Beyoncee was fake singing just to be honest. Otherwise her performance is a lie, she's a fake, and thats just the fact jack. She's kind of being a retread Monroe to Obam's Kennedy. It's all so rehash - like spam. Sad. But at least if they're partying there, they are not here -- and THAT's the real deal.

  • Whynotlive - 11 years ago

Oh... and to barb jones... yes it was absolutely beautiful. Too bad we'll never know how much electronic enhancement was used to make it so beautiful. Lip synching the national anthem at a presidential inauguration is a disgrace. Oh... and to Judith ... vagaries? Really? She was the ONLY ONE... all the other performers sang live. The ONE lip synched performance was our national anthem?!?! What sort of excuse can you possibly offer for that? If you can't sing it live... let someone who CAN step in! Completely disrespectful of our president and our country in my opinion.

  • bonnie - 11 years ago

no,who honestly cares.people complain about the dumbest stuff.

  • Consuelo - 11 years ago

Who cares, it was her voice and better tthan screwing it up like Roseanne Barr screwing it up and the person who knows if she was lip singing is the guy behind her! Better things in life to worry about..................

  • LaVerne - 11 years ago

Yes it matters. If she was to busy to rehearse with the bank, she should have backed out of performing and allowed someone who had no problem singing live. She is a good singer but not the only one who can sing.

  • Bailey Ochs - 11 years ago

She should have sung live. Other performers who have messed up the national anthem are ridiculed and laughed at for weeks on the late night talk shows. The pompous Beyonce couldn't take that so she faked it.

  • Jeannie Crawford - 11 years ago

Yes, it matters to me. Even if something went wrong it would have been ok. I have lost all respect for Beyonce once she uttered the "Take that Mitches" comment after the election. She has talent, yes, and she is very pretty but in my opinion its all on the outside. No I am not an Obama "hater" I just dont think he is a good president and I dont like him.

  • Whynotlive - 11 years ago

Recordings are edited, revised to smooth out imperfections. How often have you seen a perfomrer live that sounds little like their recordings? I know I have seen many a disappointing live performance that didn't come near the recording quality. The fact that she lip synched implies that her live performance would not have been as good. Why not? Her camp is saying that the reason she lip synched is that she didn't have time to rehearse as she was busy preparing for the Super Bowl performance. Really? Preparing for a football game performance is deemed of greater importance than a presidential inauguration?? REALLY? And you can make all the excuses for her you want... too cold, too unprepared, too whatever, but Kelly Clarkson hit it out of the park, LIVE! Perhaps the reason she didn't sing live was because she was intimidated by the artists that performed before her?!

  • barb jones - 11 years ago

No. It was absolutely beautiful. Some people can complain about sunshine.

  • anne - 11 years ago

They have gotten a singer that was used to singing live and not having her voice enhanced in a studio. Or simply a better singer. And yes, I think the American public deserves a live performance on an important occasion. I'm sure you'll get a lot of nasty responses to this remark judging from the nasty ones that are already here.

  • Ginia - 11 years ago

I can't imagine why anyone cares one way or the other.
It was her voice and very well done. Was that all anyone
could find to criticize? Much ado about nothing.

  • Judith Koren Shanahan - 11 years ago

No, it does not matter that part or all of her performance was pre-recorded. With the vagaries inherent in todays electronic systems, the size of the crowd, and room for the unexpected, it was not an issue. This question is just another excuse for the FOX news sycophants, and Obama haters to find fault. Fie and a pox on all of those naysayers!!
Had she lip synced to someone else's voice, they might have a leg to stand on. I say go back and crawl under a rock, all of you knuckle dragging wet blankets!!

  • Old Graybeard - 11 years ago

Fake singing for fake prez....works for me...
