The way things are I think it's a good idea. My granddaughter is seven. We took the train downtown Dallas and she impulsively jumped ahead of her aunt and went. out the door of the train. There she stood crying the train door would not open and she would have been standing all alone. A man knew what to do and got it open but we had such a scare My daughter got her a phone the next day!!

It is totally up to the parent. If the parent wishes for the child to have an iphone then so be it. There is no right or wrong with this question. My own kids have phones. They are teens now but they have had phones since in elementary school. I always wanted them to be able to call us if anything happened or they needed us. Especially now a days with all these school shootings! It's just the thing to do now. You can never be too safe as far as children go.

There is NO "right or wrong" on this question. It is purely a parental decision which, perhaps, would not cause any harm either way, but perhaps, could prevent harm if she had one! As a parent, you need to do EVERYTHING in your power to keep your children safe when you are not able to be with them every second.
