Season 2 wins out for me just because it's a full season.

  • ME - 11 years ago

I think all the seasons were great, however, season 1 is my personal favorite. The episodes had slightly more interesting conflicts while SOME of the episodes in season 2 and 3 just bored me (season 3 episode 13 for example). However, I am not saying that none of the episodes in season 2 or 3 had interesting conflicts. Season 3 episode 7 was one of the best in my opinion because it actually made me feel for rainbow dash (for example, I felt pissed when rainbow dash got chosen as a partner).

  • EQM - 11 years ago

@Jordan The poll was reset in the first few hours of it getting put up for whatever reason.

  • Rockabore - 11 years ago

I would say season 2 because that's where the series was able to be a bit more casual and all since they had each character get to do letters to Celestia.

And then my 2nd would be season 1 because it was really great and fun and roped me in, you gotta love the classics.

I'd rank season 3 last because it had the least amount of episodes, and some of the episodes we did get were just average.

  • bythehoofofpinkie - 11 years ago

All of the season were the best can't wait for the fourth :) and I want to see the that duet by Rarity and Octavia ^^

  • Thaye - 11 years ago

Wow. I somehow did not expect season 2 to be winning this poll at all, let alone by such a large margin.

Not that I wouldn't agree with the result (I voted for season 2 myself), but color me surprised.

Season 1 fanboys' tears... they're delicious! Finally they're being said, their opinion is everything but ultimate.

Hahahaha, can't stop laughing. This is so hilarious how "Lauren Faust season" has less votes than Twilight Alicorn one.

    @Joseph You're not alone.

  • Dogman15 - 11 years ago

I could have sworn I left a comment here the other day...

  • Joseph - 11 years ago

Looks like i'm gonna be the only one here voting for season 3.

  • badarbiter - 11 years ago

I'm voting season 2. To me it had the best good to bad episode ratio. The only episode I can't stand is mysterious mare do well. In comparison Season 1 had no bad episodes but most of them just felt kinda meh to me. Good but not great. Season 3 however had a honestly pretty bad good to bad ratio. I didn't like the premier and I didn't like the finale. Both for extremely opposite reasons. The premier felt like nothing really happened worth having two episodes while the finale felt like it desperately needed to be two episodes. I'm not even going to go into the quality of the finale or lack thereof. Season 2 introduced two extremely awesome villains, and some of my favorite episodes. I've seen episodes 11 to 26 of season 2 all at least five or six times. To me they are just that good. Season 2 takes it for me by a mile.

  • aibr - 11 years ago

    @Ponka

    Stay classy.

  • Ponka - 11 years ago

If you voted season 3, you're delusional.

Say hi to the pink elephants for me, crazy boi.

  • ArrJaySketch - 11 years ago

This is like Sophie's Choice, where it's darn near impossible to make a decision!

I voted Season 2, but honestly, all three were amazing. I'm hoping Season 4 will be awesome as well. :)

  • anononononon - 11 years ago

Season 2 is my pick. Season 3 is blown out of the water by the first two seasons, mostly because of the nature of the shortened season. Season 3 could've been insanely good with 26 episodes. Season 1 is really good, but Season 2 had the best season premiere, the best season finale, and some of my favorite episodes. Both Season 2 and Season 1 had their "meh" episodes (Mare-Do-Well and Over a Barrel stand out in my mind), and had really good episodes (Lesson Zero, Sonic Rainboom, Luna Eclipsed, A Dog and Pony Show). I think Season 2 beats out Season 1 thanks to it's insanely good premiere and finale, and the introduction of two great villains who do or could come back later for more great episodes. Season 1 introduced one villain, and that villain can't come back. What Season 1 did well was a one-episode finale. Season 3 had the worst finale, and the premiere tied with Season 1's premiere. Season 1 had a great finale, and Season 3 just couldn't pick up on the one-episode success. I must admit, though, that Magical Mystery Cure is harder to fit in one episode than Best Night Ever.

In the end, I think that Season 2 and Season 1 are very equal, EXCEPT in premiere and finale quality, where Season 1 is really good, but Season 2 absolutely shines. I think that is what pushes Season 2 above. Also, Season 2 had the best start to a season ever. Return of Harmony, then Lesson Zero, then Luna Eclipsed. It doesn't get much better than that.

  • Dan - 11 years ago

I liked Season 1 best, followed by Season 3, and finally Season 2.

  • wolf - 11 years ago

not saying season 1 and 3 was bad, but 2 was, IMO, better.
We've got... twilight psycho, schoochypoo, IRON WILL (with a dose of flutterbi***), flim flam and the super drunk ponies, Solid Sparkle/Twilight Snake, Indiana Jones, Smile Smile Smile, Batmare/Darkwing Pony, ROYAL CANTERLOT VOICE x2, gattling twilight vs the clone army, and best of all... THIS CORD that i'm holding up... which also comes with CHOCOLATE RAIN!!!!

  • Sunderbraze - 11 years ago

I couldn't help but choose season 2. Both objectively and subjectively speaking I just cannot understand why people say the show was "in decline" after season 1. Guess I'll stick to being subjective though. Season 1 was pretty darn good, but it lacked the adventurous side of the ponies that I tend to enjoy most. Season 3 had that, but it was also shorter and the finale, while it was the best way possible to portray Twilight's promotion to alicorn status, still felt rushed and very incomplete. That, and well, season 2 has most Luna. I can't argue the amount of influence that had.

  • WillfulAmbition - 11 years ago

S3 had a musical. That automatically wins my vote.

  • Silver_Smoulder - 11 years ago

    HERETICS!

I still liked Season 1 the best. Sure, it didn't have Luna, but it had Nightmare Moon. And it was just so.. full of possibilities, y'know. I love S2 and S3 to death, but I still feel that they limit us somehow.

But yeah, I just like the show.

  • Cajun - 11 years ago

*attempts to vote for all three*

  • mrjerrio - 11 years ago

Would have chosen Season 3 if it had gotten 26 episodes. In terms of quality season 2 has more great episodes simply for the reason that it has more episodes, hence more chances to make good ones. Season 3 was really great, and Crystal Empire is certainly badass, but I'm gonna say Season 2 is slightly better, followed by Season 1. They are, without a doubt, all wonderful though.

  • galapin - 11 years ago

Well, this is hard to make a choice... I'm surprised to see so few people prefered season 1

  • Zormau - 11 years ago

Well, actually D. Ingram did not yet have any "episode ending" songs aside from Love Is In Bloom which has a slow fade at the end. Life In Equestria's ending just doesn't really sound like a conclusion. There's no fade, it just stops without any epic ending (which the episode is not supposed to be). I'm curious if this will be picked up in S3.

  • Zormau - 11 years ago

I voted for season 2. Great villains, awesome songs, 26 episodes of joy. Season 1 was awesome as well, but it didn't have Discord, Chrysalis, Smile song and This Day Aria. Those are the decisive factors, the general quality is amazing in both seasons, S2 had some extremely remarkable highlights, though.
Season 3 was intense as well. The opener was rather weak compared to the other two seasons (especially S2, or course) and it was a bit short (*sadface*). On the other hand it had AMAZING episodes (really, all of them were awesome) with E11 and E12 slightly behind the others. The "Finale" I don't really consider as such. It is the continuation of the underlying Twilight Sparkle story arc and clearly more a transitory episode between two seasons. Even the final music piece does not really end in a "final" manner. The single lower tonic chord at the end is something Daniel Ingram usually does if the song leads right into the next chapter, which I think it will. Therefore, S3 would probably have won for me if it weren't so short.

  • Triximancer - 11 years ago

Season 2 for me. It had the strongest opener (Discord) and by far the best finale , and generally strong episodes throughout. S3 despite having a few really excellent episodes (Magic Duel, Sleepless in Ponyville are great) is at a severe disadvantage with a weak opening villain, only 13 episodes (two of which are Spike episodes and none Rarity, which is weird) and a rushed single episode finale which really needed two episodes. I've been waiting for the "cutie marks get switched" episode since S1 and they really just rushed through it in a montage to set up the Twilacorn stuff.

  • nathanisbored - 11 years ago

Personally, my favorite era of the show's existence (at least in general) is the latter half of season 1 and the early half of season 2. I chose season 2, but mainly because the Discord episodes are part of what really wow'd me about the show. I can't really say about season 3 because I stopped watching the show awhile ago (while season 3 was still airing). I realized that I mainly watched the show because it was cute and innocent, but not for the story. Since the show doesn't really do anything for me anymore, I'd rather not subject myself to all the politics of the fandom that have been around lately. I don't even care about spoilers anymore. I can say that I wasn't really enjoying the beginning of season 3, but I also didn't enjoy the end of season 2 as much, so I think it has more to do with me losing interest over time than anything.

  • Iamme - 11 years ago

So many haters on season 3. I am of the disappoint.
It would be fine to vote for any other season, I voted for season 1.
But I actually think season 3 is the highest quality of the 3 seasons. I only voted for season 1 because of the overpowering sentimental value.
Don't hate on season 3, especially if only because of magical mystery cure because you didn't give the developers a chance to play out it's story.
If you don't like season 3 for any other reason then, bah I couldnt care. Just tolerate it.

  • Lukas Hägg - 11 years ago

The choice was between Season 1 and 2. Ultimately I went with the second season, even though Season 1 has my favourite episodes, because it felt like they hit that sweet spot more often than in Season 1.

Season 3 was pretty much a disappointment. There were a few good episodes, but most of them weren't all that great imho. There wasn't much Rarity in the season, and when there was, she was handled pretty badly.
Getting a song from Celestia in the finale helped a lot to not make the season feel like a total wash.

I just hope that Season 3 was a little misstep, and that Season 4 will be closer to 2 and 1.

  • Celestia - 11 years ago

Season 1 was awesome I joined the fandom because of it ( I joined during the second last episode of season 1)
Season 2 was the best season so far and had many references and good jokes and puns.

Season 3... Was absolute garbage... What happened Hasbro?

  • AwkwardLuna - 11 years ago

Argh, why do I have to choose!? Close call for me between Seasons 2 and 3, but 3 edged it out for me; the only episode I didn't think held up was Spike at Your Service, so it came down to quality vs. quantity. Season 2 does win for best villains, though.

  • aibr - 11 years ago

    @ElektroP
    >Did so many people start in season 2 and biased or do most people really just like it better?I
In contrast to ponies starting with Season 1 and being bias that way?

  • Shikgoo - 11 years ago

@Wesley, no one liked Season 1 "the least", just a smaller part of the group liked it the best. You didn't get to rank them by how much you like them, you just got to pick a favorite.

As for myself, I really think Season 2 was top notch. Season 1 was great, too. Season 3 wasn't bad, either, it was just too short and Alicorn Twilight left a bitter taste in my mouth. I won't jump to any conclusions, though, let's see what they make of it in Season 4.

  • Vilhelm The Lonley Brony - 11 years ago

    I CAN'T CHOOSE! I LOVE ALL OF THEM! ;_;

  • ElektroP - 11 years ago

Wow I really expected more people to vote for season 1 o-o
Did so many people start in season 2 and biased or do most people really just like it better?
I always thought 2 was the worst... maybe I gotta re-watch it again.
    Time for a mare-a-thon :D

  • Jaboll252 - 11 years ago

Season 1 fanboys' tears... they're delicious! Finally they're being said, their opinion is everything but ultimate.

  • FractalPlankton - 11 years ago

Season 2 was by far the best. It had the highest number of great episodes, and only a couple of poor episodes. It had a lot of highs, and was evenly good most of the time otherwise.

Season 1 was more uneven in quality. It had a lot of great episodes, but it also had a lot of poor episodes. It's highs were as high as S2, but it had a lot more lows.

Season 3 has been evenly good overall, but lacking in highs, and had a few pretty bad episodes. Only a few great episodes, and more than a few poor ones. My least favourite season, but still enjoyable.

  • aibr - 11 years ago

All Seasons are good, but I think Season 3 is best. It has my favorite episodes (The Crystal Empire) and have only 1 episode I don't like (Apple Family Reunion). Biggest downside is shortness.

  • ryn - 11 years ago

How can I not vote for season two!? Discord is introduced, Twilight loose her mind over being tardy and Luna finally gets an episode.

  • Sunshinebrony - 11 years ago

Are you fucking kidding me....the entire show went into decline after season 1. It was the original and overall best season. Season 2 and 3 only made every character seem less like a real character and more like a cartoon character. I don't want to type too much, so to put it in the best terms. Season 1 is like the original spongebob. And season 2 on is nothing but an unstable recycling of everything from season 1 just as later seasons of spongebob simply fucked the old algorithm dry T__T

  • SYLOH - 11 years ago

Overally Season 1 had the highest number of episodes I enjoyed, with Season 2 a close second.
But Season 2 had my favorite episode, Lesson Zero.
Overall though, both numerically and proportionately Season 3 was my least favorite season, though I still am anticipating Season 4.
And I probably would have like Apple Family Reunion if it didn't dredge up unpleasant memories of EVERY SINGLE FAMILY EVENT I'VE EVER HAD. Otherwise objectively that episodes would have made the majority of season 3 enjoyable

  • Epsilos - 11 years ago

Honestly, I ended up going with Season 2 because that's when I really got into it. I was just starting to get into FiM and finished with Season 1 when I learned Season 2 was starting within two weeks. That feeling of excitement, which almost seemed like a reward for getting into the show, was unparalleled for me in a show and that feeling didn't end until the season did. I absolutely love Season 1 for getting me into the show, and Season 3 where I started getting more comfortable within the fandom as well as my favorite episodes, but I cannot top what Season 2 did: confirm that I should do what I love regardless of what others think.

  • Barry - 11 years ago

Wow, so many people not voting for season one. It makes me very sad to see this... I first came into the fandom in season 1, and it is still by far my favorite season. In fact, I felt the show declined rapidly after the first season. Lauren Faust's absence was painfully evident in the second and third seasons, particular when it comes to Rarity. Lauren always said that she never wanted Rarity to be a stereotypical debutante-type character, and that's exactly what the writers did to her after season 1. Go ahead and re-watch season one and compare Rarity to the later seasons. Even the way she talks has changed. Plus, the charm of season 1 is that of all the seasons thus far it seems to stay the truest to being a show for little girls. What charmed me so much about the show was that it WAS a little girls' show, yet was so spell-bindingly wonderful. I mean, there were episodes about sleepovers and dresses, yet I loved them! The stories were charming, the characters even more so, all wrapped up in a delightful setting. Lauren Faust leaving the show was the death of it, and I merely continue watching the show out of brand loyalty (and before you suggest that it's all in my head, I didn't like season 2 before I found out that Lauren had left the show).

  • Dana KS - 11 years ago

    Season 2. why? CIDER

  • Wesley Gard - 11 years ago

WTF!? People liked season the least!
    Fuck you guys. >_>

  • Evenprime - 11 years ago

Tough call! I liked all of them, a lot. And most of my favourite episodes are from Season 2.

But if I measure "favourites per season", Season 3 takes a small lead. It had more really great episodes in less time. Season 1 comes in as an honourable third place, because it contains my overall favourite episode ever.

  • Magic - 11 years ago

Also, here's a list of what made season 2 so awesome:
Derpy, Chrysalis, Discord, 26 episodes, Derpy, Vinyl Scratch's eyes, Sonic Rainboom, Hurricane Fluttershy, Derpy talking, ponies, derpy, derpy

  • Magic - 11 years ago

I liked both seasons 2 and 3. Season 2 because of Derpy and how great it was. But, if not for Wonderbolt Academy in season 3, season 2 would have been my choice.

  • crow_proxy - 11 years ago

How come there is no, ''I liked every season equally.'' (Excluding S3...that last episode...Discord oversimplifying.) I mean it's like asking to pick a favorite pony. Some have em, others don't.

  • WilliamPorygon - 11 years ago

Season 3 wasn't bad, but there's a number of reasons why it's definitely the weakest overall so far IMO (half length, some of the better storylines felt rushed, Spike at your Service taking a great story idea and executing it very poorly, still unsure exactly how I feel about the whole Twilicorn deal).

The other two are about equal for me... I picked season 1, I guess just because I like Twilight Sparkle so much and the season focused on her development more than season 2 did. They both had a lot of great episodes I enjoyed that focused on other characters though.

  • Sintanan - 11 years ago

Oh.. well, gee thanks comment block for ignoring all my spacing to make my comment legible. Link to my comment if anyone wants to be able to read it as not a wall of text: http://pastebin (dot) com/CJHe8rdg

  • Sintanan - 11 years ago

The delivery of a couple episodes in season one do fall flat. This I attribute to developing a new series and establishing characters, setting, and overall plot. While some episodes were great, many were good or average, and some fall short. Again, this is due to the new show treading water. It could have flopped, but I feel it shows that Faust knew what she was doing from her previous works.

In season two, there were a handful of cute fandom shout-outs, but they weren't focused upon. There was also great development in the writing style, the characterizations, and the quality of animation (atrtibuted primarily to the fact the writers and artists could expand on what was there and not having to start from scratch). Additionally, since there was established continunity, the writers experimented with the characters and lore --which was hit or miss depending on the viewer.

In season three --while there were some memorable moments and good jokes-- the whole of the season feels rushed. Bad pacing renders many episodes coming across with rushed or undeveloped ideas; a short episode list means splitting focus among characters to allow for previous events to settle in just cannot happen; and a large pandering to the fandom with shout-outs and blatent tie-ins to pop culture leaves the episodes coming across as the staff not taking the pony universe Faust set to develop seriously. In other words, the episodes feel like they were fan-done comics and fiction showcasing the personal ideals of the writer rather than the work of a professional team follow a concise story bible. Again, I blame this on a short season.

Overall, I feel that if Hasbro wasn't aiming for a 65 episode "limit" of a first-run syndicated child's cartoon common to Western animation and realized the fandom wasn't a gimmick or a joke back in season 1, things could have been drastically different (for the better) for season 3. I imagine the Hasbro board meeting would have went like this:

CEO: "Okay. So we have this huge following of our My Little Pony line that isn't our target demographic. With the end of the first season of our cartoon line now is the time to decide how we are to handle this fan base."

Board majority: "It's probably a joke from the internet. Ignore it and carry on like we planned."

Board member: "What if it isn't? Prelimary research shows dozens of websites, hundreds of songs, thousands of pictures, and even some fan-made animations, games, and conventions--"

Board majority: "Then we need to shut all this down to protect our copyrights and trademarks."

Board member: "--What if, instead, we supported the fan base? Drop our plans for a short third season of animation and run this into a full-fledged series; work with the fan community to license these games; have our staff socialize with the fan base. Yes, this would be a risk to our bottom line, but what if it worked? We've licensed out Transformers to other companies to produce collectors items that sell. Why not try it here?"

CEO: "Hmm... Risky proprosition, Bob, but payoff on success would be something else. Let's put it to vote."

    Board: "Aye!"

Now, wouldn't that have been something else?

  • Haste - 11 years ago

S3 loses out by virtue of being shorter, despite having two of my favorite episodes. Had to go with S2, for the best villains, Daring Do, and Tank.

  • Bryce Kanyon - 11 years ago

I have no problems with any of the three seasons. Though I don't call myself a brony, I appreciated each season for the two things that have made them stand out from every generation: Great storytelling and unforgettable characters. But, only one gets the vote, so I had to say... Season 2.

Granted, Season One was decent. It introduced us to the characters, gave us an idea of the premise for the series as a whole, and it had just as many memorable moments. Now one thing I want to make clear: I don't hate Season Three, I don't even despise it. I thought the third season was okay for what it was. It had some good episodes, it re-introduced some old characters, it had some decent songs, and the animation gets better and it was fun. Granted Season 3 probably doesn't come close to being the best season, not just because it was shorter than the others (Though I'm sure that accounts to something).

In the end, it came down to the season that really stands out so far. Season 2: Two great villains, many shout-outs to the community, as much focus on the rest of the Mane Six and not just Twilight, and it was a season that started strong and ended on a high note. So far, Season 2's season finale can't really be beat as of late but with a fourth season coming up... Anything can happen.

Overall, Season 2 gets my vote.

  • MyLIttleOreo - 11 years ago

Season 3 may have its flaws, but it's the one where Dave Polsky showed he can write great episodes (with the exception of one), and it's the season where Spike was finally appreciated as a main character.

  • StayOuttaMyShed - 11 years ago

Season 2, easily. Season 1 was good but Season 2 had so many fantastic episodes, plus had both an amazing season opener and season finale. It even had the best songs, minus Winter Wrap Up. Season 3 had some great episodes like Sleepless in Ponyville and Magic Duel, but Spike At Your Service, Magical Mystery Cure, and the incredibly dull season opener solidifies it as the worst season. Nowhere even close to as good as Season 2.

  • Dreike - 11 years ago

While I've liked all 3 seasons, it was an easy choice to pick season 2. Both season premier and finale were great 2-parters with well loved villains, and many of my favorite episodes reside in-between (Lesson Zero, Last Roundup, Read it and Weep, etc).

  • Phillie Chi - 11 years ago

I will ALWAYS vote for the latest one. They simply keep getting better.
