Should councils pay social workers' registration fees?

    Edna,
the HCPC is a government body and Social Workers have no choice in having to pay the registration fee. If Social Workers are not registered they cannot work as Social Workers. Relatively low pay for a difficult job on top of a pay freeze does not make it an attractive profession to enter or continue in. This miniscule perk helps morale just a little bit.
Local authorities without many or any Social Workers would be in a catastrophic mess. Perhaps then you would be able to realistically evaluate the slice of cake that Social Workers never had. My suggestion Edna is that you become a Social Worker and help us all

It is not appropriate and may be subject of legal action as council tax payers do not have to pay social workers registration fees (or that of any profession).

All the people in the country are subject to severe austerity and difficulties now, what makes it OK for local authorities to use public money in this way? Do social workers think they are not 'in it together' with the rest of us- including the vulnerable they say they serve? This poll only highlights where their morals and values trully reside.

Community Care is in danger of not being critical of what is going on by failing to help social work to understand its responsibilities to the most vulnerable in society whose slice of the cake is rather significantly less than theirs.
