Should you be allowed to talk on your cell phone at the gym?

I wish they would enforce the cell phone rules consistently. They often let it slide and 20 and 30 somethings are sitting on equipment and texting or talking on the phone instead of using the equipment. People then have to wait for this??. It is common courtesy. A rule should not be necessary. If you are in a gym exercise and use your phone on your own time.

I belong to Planet Fitness and it is posted everywhere about no cell phone. I love that they did this. I is so annoying when some one is talking on the phone when on machine. If call is that important, they will leave a message. What did we do before cell phones?? It is not safe to talk while on machine. Here is a clue, if it was that important however, get off the machine to answer it.

The main reason for no cell phones at the gym is out of respect for people wearing equipment such as heart rate monitors. The cell phones interfere with the transmission of the information from the chest strap to the watch or wristband that the members wear. I have had to move from aerobic machines in the middle of a workout for this reason, and it is very aggravating! As a result, I did not know whether or not I got a proper workout with my heart rate being within the range it should have been in.

A no cell phone rule should be imposed in all gyms for this reason, and should be respected by everybody!!!

I have a Planet Fitness membership, and though I can honestly say that ive read all my paperwork and saw nothing about a cell phone restriction. But I have no problem with it! You cant be focused on working out, while on the phone. Not to mention its dangerous! I have kids too, but while im working out, whoever has them know how to reach me ig I dont answer, in case of emergency, call Planet Fitness! Or periodically go to locker room! Rules are rules people!
