Should Jimmy Fallon replace Jay Leno?

We need Jay's level of humor, everything doesn't need to be adolescent humor, and NO ONE interviews the seniors of Hollywood like Jay as they can share stories and Jay is not old enough yet to be out of touch, in fact he is perfect. Also, he is the best at interviewing military veterans. Also animal segments, Fallon acts like a little kid, Jay acts like a man. Fallon will be the man for the Holy Grail of Late Night when Jay is ready. Wise up NBC, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Please don't let Jimmy Fallon take over Jay's spot. After not being funny, he spends most of the time either yelling at us or force laughing at whatever his current guest is saying. Haven't been able to watch Letterman since his stuttering has gotten so pronounced & realized he's not funny. Always seems to be pushing his idiot bandleader, (who has great music but no personality) & stopped entertaining us a few years ago.
We like Kimmel just don't think he needs a sidekick. We watch Leno & tape Kimmel so we don't miss either.

NBC just keep making all sorts of judgmental missteps, and replacing Jay Leno with Jimmy Fallon will be just another error. Jimmy Fallon is not funny !!!! His comedy is just plain silly and indescribably boring!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

When will NBC wise up? If they push Jay Leno out of his time slot, they'll have a disaster like they had with Conan. I have nothing against Kimmel or O'Brian. It's just a simple fact - Jay and his writers are absolutely THE best! If I cannot watch The Tonight Show in person, I always MUST time shift and watch it as soon as I can. And he is one of the reasons I have Netflix - just in case I miss a night. Jay's monologue never fails to make me laugh - several times - a good end to my day. Jay's monologue topics are TOTALLY relevant and current with whatever is happening in the world, whether it's politics, some wacky news story, some Hollywood personality or event, the economy, sports - if it's in the news, Jay and the writers will find a humorous twist for our amusement. I particularly admire that he can poke fun at NBC as well. Is this idea to replace Jay just revealing thin skin on their part? I presume guests are picked by others and they're usually entertaining with Jay's questioning and conversation. I enjoy the humor bits in the show as well. It certainly cannot be the demographics because the fan base among my friends and family range from high school through 80-somethings. I would think advertisors would love that age range. Clearly Jay will do fine without NBC's money, but I think NBC will NOT do fine without Jay.

I have never liked David Letterman. He is not funny, talented and has no redeeming value. How he
has stayed so long I cannot fathom! I like Jimmy Kimmel, but that guy he has with him has no redeem
ing value and is feckless and useless and should have never been on TV at all.

If and when Jay wants to retire I think Jimmy Fallon would be great. I'm a 64 year old female and I enjoy both of them. Jimmy is a natural and reminds me a lot of Johnny Carson. Love Ricky Minor as well as the Roots.

Leno is and was very up to date and relevant. As he has gotten older I believe he is loosing his connection with the desired demographics of the Tonight show. I have found that of all possible contenders Jimmy Fallon is the best in the running. His humor is funny, relevant and exciting. However, please don't bring the Roots Band with him. I have been at the Tonight Show tapings and Ricky Minor and the band are the best I have ever heard (except for Kevin\in Eubanks) and they need to keep him.

Jay Leno is unpleasant to listen to and unpleasant to look at. I watch Letterman, Craig Ferguson, and Jimmy Fallon (switch back and forth) and NEVER watch Leno. Letterman and Craig are the most intelligent, funny and topical. Jimmy Fallon is the most truly talented, topical and funny. NO LENO!!! I am 80 years old, but young at heart (and head). AND Craig does his monologue with no notes or cue cards! That takes guts!!

Jimmy Fallon is one of the worst comics and a terrible host. His humor is between 2nd grade and 4 grade. And I have to apologize to fourth graders. He is just not funny. His routines are boring and sometimes just stupid.
We need someone who has charisma and truly funny. If Fallon gets the spot, my family will stop watching the Tonight show for the first time since it started.

leno best but he buys into dumb far left issues... oreilly is trying to wise his stupid ass up

Please let Jay Leno stay. He is the best late night show host on TV. We watch him every night. The others "stink".

I think Jimmy Fallon should replace Jay Leno when the time is right. I voted no in the poll because i don't think Leno is ready to leave yet. He is number one in the late night ratings so why make him leave. The Conan scenario was a disaster so why change now. Leno will be ready to retire eventually and Jimmy Fallon can take over then unless he has moved on and then they can find a suitable replacement.

Jay Leno and Chealsea Handler are the only two comics that are worth watching on TV. If anyone should take oer for Jay when he "retires" it should be Chelsea.

@LEE.. Don't believe everything you hear. Conan bombed in the rankings and since Leno was known to be able to bring in the numbers, they moved him back to that spot. Even before Conan took over the TS, Leno told viewers to watch him. He probably had a feeling it would fail and was trying to promote Conan to improve his chances of doing well as the new host. Conan tanked on his own, it wasn't Leno's doing.

BEWARE OF JAY LENO. HE'S A TWO-TIMER AND YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN HE'S GOING TO DO AN "END RUN' ON SOME UNSUSPECTING UP AND COMING TALK HOST. I USED TO LIKE HIM UNTIL HE OUSTED CONAN O'BRIEN, EVEN THOUGH I NEVER CARED FOR CONAN. I REFUSE TO WATCH LENO NOW.

When it comes to top notch humor, Leno is the man. He has this knack for being able to insult people or groups of people in a way where those being insulted can't help but to laugh. It's because he does it in a way where the 'target' knows that it's only meant in good fun and also in a way to be ridiculous, not serious or malicious. He just has that way where it works for him.

I think Fallon needs to stay where he's at for awhile before even trying to shift towards TS. Then a few years out, have little swaps, where Leno hosts LN and Fallon hosts TS, sort of like how Leno and Couric swapped that one time several years back. Not only get a spike in ratings, but see if he fits the look, feel and attitude of TS. That's why it bombed with Conan, because he wasn't right for it.

When NBC chose Leno over Letterman, they got things right. The fact that Leno has keep the TS in the #1 slot for so many years proves it. So some viewers are switching over to view Kimmel, so what? If they were watching Kimmel at a later hour (instead of Fallon), what makes NBC think that people will stop watching Kimmel for Fallon at an earlier time slot? Not only that, but give it time, those people will come back to Leno.

When Conan was supposed to take over TS a few years back, I knew it was going to fail. If they try it again too soon with Fallon, it will fail as well. The TS is about having a certain level of class and maturity with how you handle things and the kind of humor you bring on it. It's also about letting a person ease into the position. It's how Leno got the spot and look how that worked out so far. That's why if they swap places once in awhile, or if they have periods where Leno is off for a week and so Fallon steps in, it will help ease him into the role and then when it's time and he takes over, it will work out just fine. But shouldn't be anytime before 2020. In fact, happening on 2020 would be a nice landmark to do it on.

I like Jay Leno and Jimmy Fallon. If Jay is going to retire I think Jimmy would be a good replacement over Letterman and Kimmel. I dislike both of them. Conan O'Brian and Craig Ferguson are okay.

  • pam anspach - 11 years ago

Craig Ferguson is smarter and funnier than all of them.

  • MJ - 11 years ago

Fallon is much funnier, and younger. Leno's time is in the past!!!

  • Abbs - 11 years ago

Have never been a fan of Leno anyway. Whatever---give it a shot, Jimmy.

  • Rich - 11 years ago

Leno shouldn't have been put back on after he was { GONE} the first time. Dave Letterman should have had this spot from the get-go. He's miles above Leno when it comes to being funny. Plus, he's not a fat republican also.

  • Lynn - 11 years ago

I like both of them - - I always enjoyed Jimmy - but he's changed a bit lately. Not sure what it is...and I watch Craig Ferguson on CBS - He's a different kind of talk show host - funny with a kind of 'dirty' side to him...They are ALL good in their own way - - Not sure if anyone is "replacable" - - Just new in that position, and doing it with their own 'twist'...

Jimmy Fallon is nothing like Jay!!! His comedy is evidently geared to the young people and they are not the only ones watching late night!!!!! Jay keeps up with times and is just a better standup!!! Jimmy gets kind of silly sometimes, and doesn't do as well with visiting celebrities!!!!
