I think manufacturing will return to the US and in some part to Berks County because costs are rising in China and Mexico.

The catch is that you need trained and skilled younger workers that can read blueprints and operate machines. There is a big skills gap in manufacturing. The Reading Eagle article interviewed lots of manufacturing veterans, guys who are in their 50s and 60s...how do you replace that experience when they decide to retire? Those guys showed up for work every day and knew how to work. Young guys today, it's hit and miss. Part of the Mexican and Chinese advantage is that too- their workers have excellent work ethic.

The opportunity is there but there has to be acknowledgement that the manufacturing the region really wants requires more than just high school education. High school education only gets you a retail or warehouse job at best if you're lucky.

Tony: How much do you think union members make? I worked at a union (USW) steel mill in the late 90s, my job was the highest paid in the plant, I got extra for working swing shifts, and I made $19 and change per hour. In what world is that considered excessive?

As long as the unions are allowed to bully everyone around, our economy and everyone in America will suffer. They pretend to stand for the middle class American worker, but they really only stand for their own greed, and have pushed all our manufacturing and JOBS to other countries.

the rush to move offshore got a good start during the Carter Administration and has done nothing but accelerate during all other administrations under all parties. we get the lack of leadership we elect at any level of government.

if you insist on being a blue state then you have to go along with what the party you elected dishes out.SAY THANK YOU OBAMA.
