I wonder how many people are _NOT_ voting for an MMORPG because they read "Equestria Online" and don't want to tempt fate with regards to dangerous AI?
Peace Lily - 11 years ago
Definitely either of the RPG versions. RPG games are the best type of game IMO. Preferably something action-adventure based. A strategy game would also be cool.
I'd say not an MMO, but that's only because I don't like them because in my experience, the whole 'other people' thing tends to outweigh how good the game actually is. =_=

Side scrolling MMORPG like Glitch I miss glitch and love mlp. I think the ponies would transfer well to the style and it would make customizing your own pony really easy.

Remember the Neopets game they released for the PS2? It ended abruptly, but otherwise managed to make a very successful RPG out of child-level characters. I imagine that with proper execution, they could manage an absolutely /brilliant/ one out of FiM if they took some of the cues from that game.

A RTS or Turn-Based Strategy Game would be awesome.
I donĀ“t know how many of you play Civilization V, but there, i did a Game where all Factions were Pony Nations with individual Leaders:
Equestria (Celestia)
The New Lunar Republic (Luna)
The Changelings (Chrysalis)
Chaos (Discord)
Saddle Arabia (Saudian)
The Old Crystal Empire (Sombra)
The New Crystal Empire (Cadance)
The Earth Ponies (Puddinghead)
The Unicorns (Platinum)
The Pegasi (Hurricane)
I personally played as Luna- and it was awesome to see how Ponys fight for World Domination :D
We could like have a Game where you start as one of the 3 ancient Tribes, then do the Battles with Discord, Nightmare Moon and Sombra, later defeat Nightmare Moon, Discord, Chrysalis and Sombra etc.
Or you make up your own Story :) An MMORPG would be nice too, where you could like select your Race (Earth, Unicorn, Pegasus), could later in the Game design your Cutie Mark yourself etc.
I've said this from the beginning, and I doubt I'll change my mind ever. I think the best way to adapt MLP into this medium is in an Animal Crossing or Harvest Moon style game.

Lets be realistic, a licensed game will have to be an E rated game and have some kind of business model that will continue to generate revinue at a low cast to keep the Hasbro happy. I feel that An Animal Crossing type pony game would be a nice mix of pretty things and gameplay. As for the buisness model for that, micro transactions for character customization (mane/tails/accessories ect), house items, different zones that the player can explore.
Another one being a ponified version of The Sims.

A MLP sky racing game could be fun with pegasi. A Unicorn centric magical third person DMC style "hack n slash" could be fun and a earth pony farming sim in style of harvest moon might be fun too.
Formis - 11 years ago
Open world RPG would be nice, as Equestria would be interesting to explore, but (no offense) definitely not in Skyrim style, I don't mind open world but I'd like a decent story as well. Open world containing storyline with magnitude of at least the Mass Effect trilogy (without the crappy ending :P), and of course side-stories too. So more in the (promised) style of the upcoming Witcher 3 basically.
Jeff - 11 years ago
We need another legit banjo kazooie...BADLY, but as much as we need it I don't necessarily think ponies would make the experience better. We just need another banjo kazooie. What ponies would go really well with is a Fire Emblem style game. Trixie LEVEL UP (many stat boosts): 'soon trixie really will be the highest level unicorn!' Twilight LEVEL UP (very few stat boosts): 'Maybe I should just return to my studies...'
stryder - 11 years ago
First choice would be Fallout Equestria. That would make my life. But if I were to pick something more reasonable, I would love to see an RPG in the style of Paper Mario. The colorful designs, exaggerated characters, and innocent humor works fantastically in that setup.
Random_User - 11 years ago
Forget Skyrim, we already have the perfect premise at hoof. Such a game should be a spin off of Fallout Equestria. It fits all that we would need for an epic game. I has an open world, a dynamic setting, the possibility for all kinds of wonderful story lines, you name it.
We have no need for 3D graphics, first person shooting, and whatnot, we need deep stories to tell and characters to dive into. Both Fallout and MLP have that in spade. Mix the two and the new catch phrase should be, "Radiation is Magic."
Air - 11 years ago
I'm for a 3D platformer, we don't have enough of those. There are plenty of the other genres listed.

Frostleaf9 - 11 years ago
I think that we should have a mix of MMORPG and the western RPG. That way A lot of bronies could explore Equestria and do other things together.
Charles - 11 years ago
The genre is less important to me than that they don't follow a generic recipe. Pegasi can fly, it would be stupid, for example, to have a linear RPG where water, waist high fences or even mountains block party movement. It would be completely out of theme to make any kind of rpg with a standard "kill stuff for xp" design. I just don't see Twilight using magic to kill rats to level up her magic ability. It just wouldn't fit.
If you're going to make a pony game, then make a PONY game. Don't make a generic game with pony graphics.
Mjolnersson - 11 years ago
Just imagine how awesome "Pony Souls" would be. Or "Kingdoms of Equestria - Reckoning". Or "Divinity 2 - Pony knight saga".... OMG so many options ^^
WolfEdge - 11 years ago
(I left this same comment on EQD) From what I can gather, that Western RPG (Skyrim) seems to be the Action/Adventure choice.... this'd be so much easier if I had actually played Skyrim...*rubs temples*
Seems like it'd be more diverse in abilities and maps compared to a 3D Zelda/Mario 64/Banjo-Kazooie game-style choice... which would suit Equestria's huge-ass world. This game would practically be MADE for bronies.
But, more realistically, I can see a cute but fun 3D Platformer featuring the Mane Six with gameplay similar to Banjo-Kazooie's. (Derpy unlockable?) As long as it's fashioned after the show in all possible areas, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Or whenever my next check would come in. The latter's way more likely.

There needs to be a "Just give me a pony game!"-button.

I would love to explore Equestria western RPG style, but I also think a point and click adventure, in a style similar to the walking dead, would be a great way to tell a excellent story. Not to mention a point and click adventure is far more likely to actually happen

RTS guys! We need Equestria Divided to be made!
Luhood - 11 years ago
I hear a lot about Point'n'Click adventures, yet nothing I hear is mentioning what I think is one of the best ones out there: The Longest Journey. And for that matter the entire Myst series! But I digress, maybe people just don't have it in for modern classics.
What I would want to see is just that, thouh. An MLP Point'n'Click Adventure, whether in the old style of The Dig and Monkey Island or the more modern Longest Journey and Myst. I don't think an FPS would work as well as people think, neither do I feel the setting works for a MOBA. An RTS would work with a modified setting, but the current is a bit to cutsey (not to mention Peaceful) for one. A Fighting style have shown to work with a semi-modified setting, a Platformer the style of Banjo Kazooie... could work. Though I think Spyro is a better comparison, but I don't know really. City Builder/Simulator... I don't know really. Not a genre I'm that much of a fan of. And RPGs... could work.
All in all I think the game should think old standards, where Blood, Gore and Violence weren't as important as a good story, great characters and an interesting world. We love the show because of the way it can captivate us without those elements, so why introduce them in a game based on it?
justinf79 - 11 years ago
An open-world action-RPG like Zelda would be cool.
SomeBrony - 11 years ago
fps first pony shooter FTW!
muhname - 11 years ago
An action-adventure game (The Force Unleashed/God of War style) with all the mane 6 as playable. Solid story with slight RPG elements. It would be a blast. I'm flummoxed that act. adv. wasn't even an option.
Nuserame - 11 years ago
Tossup between MMORPG and western RPG.
Id say MMORPG, if and only if, it was done in the same way the original Neverwinter Nights way done. Anything else would be a waste of all the creative stuff the fandom does.
Stancet - 11 years ago
POINT AND CLICK ADVENTURE!
Geez... it disappoints me that it isn't even an option. People have forgotten about those instant classics like Monkey Island, Sam and Max, Grim Fandango, Strong Bad's Cool Game, Phoenix Wright, Syberia, Professor Layton, King's Quest and Zork! Although... some open world RPG wouldn't be a bad addition to the game, just to make Equestria more lively.
Personally, I would like to see more point-n-click adventure games. I think it's a pretty underrated genre.
Leon Hinomoto - 11 years ago
I picked other because I want a pony Adventure game with an engaging story.
Ed Thorpe - 11 years ago
Since 2D Platformer is not on the list i went for other. A Rayman Origins style 2D Platformer is what i'd like to see. 2D hand drawn graphics and 1 - 4 players. Heck! 6 players online or if a system supports 5 or more controllers (Eg Wii U) 5/6 players offline.
Jaboll252 - 11 years ago

Because I don't like MMORPGs. I don't like games with no save game option. Having internet connection all the time is buggy, ruins immersion, is too stressful, and you have to pay for it.

Simulation+RPG.

Imagine living in Ponyville and solving its inhabitants' problems.
You'd get to know some of them better, soothe arguments (with the magic of friendship!), have travellers and officials visiting your village. The ponies you control would have their individual goals, but they'd have to be guided to achieve them and help the community prosper against objective adversities.
There'd be a tavern screen where you can hear latest gossips (to make use of them later!), marketplace where you'd buy supplies your ponies need, festivals (each with special requirements and features!), special random events... And a storyline! (For example, you're in charge now as Mayor Mare is out in special delegation, Your task is to take care of the village until next year's Summer Sun Celebration, but soon You discover that it takes more than it looks to maintain harmony...). The story may take place before or after events of Season 1.
Chad - 11 years ago
Like a few others here, I think an action/adventure game (in the same vein as Zelda) would be the best idea. Equestria, as presented in the show, is an ideal setting for such a game.
Sepheris - 11 years ago
So many reasons for why they'd all make amazing games. I ended up picking Western RPG. I'd likely take it as a chance to explore the entire world in detail, walking the streets of Canterlot, or adventuring through Everfree Forest
Pawn Heart - 11 years ago
I'd like to see a kind of Zelda actioner crossed with a puzzler - possibly a Lost Vikings approach where you could make use of each team member's strengths individually.
I'd probably go with an adventure game (as in Monkey Island or The Walking Dead) over the rest of these but I guess that's not really a big-budget game genre any more.
lordelliott - 11 years ago
Why would you vote for open world RPG when MMORPG is an option?! MMORPGs are often just as open. Ideally, for me, the game would be both.

An adventure or Metroidvania would be totally awesome. Exploration, adventure, challenge... Something to get lost in the world with.
Point and Click Episodic Adventure Game in the style of Telltales' releases (Sam and Max, Back to the Future, Wallace and Grommit, the Walking Dead). *checks above comments* Looks like I'm not the only one who thinks that, either.

Treleus - 11 years ago
Gonna have to agree with some of you guys. A point-and-click pony adventure game is where it's at. Something like King's Quest V or VI would do. Or really, like any King's Quest game.
Or Monkey Island if you wanna crank up the slapstick and humor.
Yes, I comment here. ^_^ Intense Debate doesn't support OpenID anymore. I chose "Other" for an Endless Forest style game. Exploration, beautiful scenery. Casting spells, controling the weather, solving puzzles and growing stuff would be a bonus.

Western RPG. Take the Return of harmony Plot line and extend it. When Discord wins Princess Celestia sends out a hero (you) to save the mane 6 from themselves so you can save the world from falling into chaos. The communication stats of the Fallout games combined with the species balancing and scope of the elder scrolls would fit pony perfectly. The chaos throughout Equestria would create enemies and while you wouldn't be able to play as your favorite characters, they could tag along after you've saved them. Side missions could reference other episodes such as helping out on that farm from "Last Round up", saving philydelphia from parasprites, and finding a cure for poison joke. DLC could cover the wedding and the crystal empire as well as popular episodes released after the games release.

Banjo and Kazooie style all the way!
I wanna save Equestria in 3D using the main six with their different abilities.
Kinda like a cross between that 3D Donkey Kong Family game and B and K.
Take my money damn it!
Teh Sheep - 11 years ago
I chose other, I'd like it to be a sandbox style game, like minecraft, or terraria.
OneBrokePony - 11 years ago
A 2D platformer is what I'd want to see. Maybe a party (as in like Mario Party) style game too, if it's done well.
I think that my number one "want" for an MLP game is just one that retains the real feel of the show that makes it as endearing as it is. To that end, I'd actually really, really enjoy a game like Animal Crossing or Harvest Moon, where there's less fighting bad guys and so forth and more just living in Equestria and being a part of that universe and enjoying it.
Voted "Other". I agree there should be a point-and-click / adventure game option here. Best fit with the spirit of the show, by far.
Pinkie Pie 3 U - 11 years ago
I want a pony game that blend both fire emblem and harvest moon. Possibly Paper Mario style type of game play would be welcomed where you chat around ponyville searching for problems that need fixing.
Hopscotch - 11 years ago
I voted other as a tactical rpg would be the best for me, however I would honestly like to see pony have big budget games in every genre except for maybe FPS. I also agree with Rioichi, a point and click adventure would be an awesome fit and I would definitely play the hay out of it.
nathanisbored - 11 years ago
Anything 3D is a bad idea. I don't know if you people have noticed, but the ponies just aren't cute in 3D, in anything.
inDerpxar - 11 years ago
Wat, no 2D platformer option? Oh come on!
I'll go with 3D platformer, then. Imagine some Pegasi/alicorns having flying abilities while other ponies don't... and levitation with Unicorns a la Psychonauts... yeah, you could do some pretty cool stuff with that. Screw genres that are popular nowadays just because of big-budget marketing...
Dreike - 11 years ago
I picked Other. I'd like to see a Tactical RPG, in the vein of Disgaea or FF Tactics. Have always had a fondness for that particular genre.
Phreak - 11 years ago
I'd love a Fallout Equestria game.
Cloud Wander - 11 years ago
I think a tactical roleplaying game (ala "La Pucelle Tactics" or "Disgea") might be the way to go. Both games feature a "recruitment" mechanic in which you build your "army" by winning over your enemies. Becoming more powerful by making friends seems like a good fit for MLP:FIM. Also, both games are story-based, so you can play as or with characters from the series. Plus, there's plenty of opportunity for humor!
rioichi - 11 years ago
WAIT WHAT!? There should be point n' click/adventure game in the options! Like Monkey Island, Sam & Max etc. Because that I think would be the only game type which would fit the MLP brand. So i voted for other.
HuffyTheMagicDragon - 11 years ago
What the heck? Since when are all Western RPG's "open-world Skyrim style"? The ideal pony RPG would be party-based, so you could control all the mane six in a tactical D&D-esque adventure. THAT is a Western RPG!
@Luke101995 - 11 years ago
If I had to choose I'd go for something in the playstyle of these games:
-Fire Emblem
-Ace Attorney
-Animal Crossing
-Final Fantasy
-Catz/Dogz (yeah scraping the barrel here)
I'm currently steering towards 3D platformer, MOBA, and strategy.
Strategy since I play a lot of Fire Emblem, and I'd like to play a pony version of that. 3D platformer because, I think a Banjo-Kazooie like environment would work well with mlp. And MOBA, since a Dota like MLP game sounds pretty fun to me. I'll pick 3D platformer.

Id say MMORPG, if and only if, it was done in the same way the original Neverwinter Nights way done. Anything else would be a waste of all the creative stuff the fandom does.
I picked other because I want a pony Adventure game with an engaging story.
@lordelliott
Because I don't like MMORPGs. I don't like games with no save game option. Having internet connection all the time is buggy, ruins immersion, is too stressful, and you have to pay for it.
I would like to see a game like Harvest Moon with ponies. : )
If ponies got a big budget game release it'd be much like Animal Crossing, except maybe with more, interesting stuff to do.
Stealth-action game (with Solid Sparkle or Pinkie Spie as the protagonist).
I said MMORPG not because I like them, but it would get bronies toghether.
I don't know what a Prince of Persia style game would be called but I'd want to see that! With daring do! Maybe it'd be a 3d platformer..
What about a game for EACH type?? This way everyone would be satisfied.

Like a few others here, I think an action/adventure game (in the same vein as Zelda) would be the best idea. Equestria, as presented in the show, is an ideal setting for such a game.
So many reasons for why they'd all make amazing games. I ended up picking Western RPG. I'd likely take it as a chance to explore the entire world in detail, walking the streets of Canterlot, or adventuring through Everfree Forest
Why would you vote for open world RPG when MMORPG is an option?! MMORPGs are often just as open. Ideally, for me, the game would be both.
Where in the world is Action/Adventure genre? The unvierse and everything in MLP:FiM is perfect for an Action/Adventure style game.
Screw RPGS I want my zeldas.
I'd love to see a MLP RPG for ages 10 and up.
I would like a racing game!
Oh come on! Why isn't there an 'all of the above' option!?
I would love to see a story-driven RPG based on an arc that's a blend between adventure/sandbox and JRPG, something like the Chrono or Mana series.
3D adventure-fantasy game! Make it an option! I had to choose other cause BEST GAME category WASN'T THERE!
*checks above comments* Looks like I'm not the only one who thinks that, either.
id love a game like pony skyrim
Gonna have to agree with some of you guys. A point-and-click pony adventure game is where it's at. Something like King's Quest V or VI would do. Or really, like any King's Quest game.
Or Monkey Island if you wanna crank up the slapstick and humor.
Yes, I comment here. ^_^ Intense Debate doesn't support OpenID anymore. I chose "Other" for an Endless Forest style game. Exploration, beautiful scenery. Casting spells, controling the weather, solving puzzles and growing stuff would be a bonus.
A third-person, point-and-click, graphical adventure game for kids. Kinda like Freddi-Fish, Spy Fox, and Putt-Putt. (Ah, those were the days.)
Something like Harvest Moon has always been on my mind.
Though even in my mind the focus was on individual character stories so an RPG would be nice too.
Fighting is Magic... sigh...

I chose other, I'd like it to be a sandbox style game, like minecraft, or terraria.
A 2D platformer is what I'd want to see. Maybe a party (as in like Mario Party) style game too, if it's done well.
So by "Dashrim", you must mean racing...
Other. You left out Action Adventure.
Dashrim is where it's at!
@huffythemagicdragon
actually, that would be jrpgs, not western.
Voted "Other". I agree there should be a point-and-click / adventure game option here. Best fit with the spirit of the show, by far.
I want a pony game that blend both fire emblem and harvest moon. Possibly Paper Mario style type of game play would be welcomed where you chat around ponyville searching for problems that need fixing.
I voted other as a tactical rpg would be the best for me, however I would honestly like to see pony have big budget games in every genre except for maybe FPS. I also agree with Rioichi, a point and click adventure would be an awesome fit and I would definitely play the hay out of it.
Anything 3D is a bad idea. I don't know if you people have noticed, but the ponies just aren't cute in 3D, in anything.
I picked Other. I'd like to see a Tactical RPG, in the vein of Disgaea or FF Tactics. Have always had a fondness for that particular genre.
I'd love a Fallout Equestria game.
WAIT WHAT!? There should be point n' click/adventure game in the options! Like Monkey Island, Sam & Max etc. Because that I think would be the only game type which would fit the MLP brand. So i voted for other.
What the heck? Since when are all Western RPG's "open-world Skyrim style"? The ideal pony RPG would be party-based, so you could control all the mane six in a tactical D&D-esque adventure. THAT is a Western RPG!
We all saw pony mods in Skyrim and they look pretty weird and creppy ):
Original Fighting is Magic
I just want a third person medieval game with unicorns as ranged, earth ponies as melee, pegasi as aerial combat, and alicorns as heroes. In a Star Wars Battlefront type of game
