As a mother to a Madeline - yes she will absolutely get called Maddie by everyone. Even if you as the parent only ever refer to her as Madeline. Also, I have a Lewis, and from the outset I told everyone that he was a Lewis and NOT a Lou. No one has called him Lou yet. Unfortunately Australians can't help but reach automatically for a nickname. I have a friend who called her baby Finn thinking that it was fool proof, however all of her extended family have started calling him Finnegan! Haha they have lengthened his name! So nothing is safe I'm afraid.
