I thinks District Attorney Adams should be very proud of the action he took. There are no lawmakers in Berks County that are trying to do anything to protect child from sexual predators I am a victim of sexual abuse for 4 years from age 11 to16 and when it happen to me I was not educated with these at age 11 to contact police or tell family since the abuser was a close family member if we do not start to see the out cry and help it only going to get worst. Do not count on Rep Calatigrone to help he has refused to speak to me or take any phone calls because he all so thinks children are not worth protecting. With the comment on can we stop sex praetors from going to the state hospital people should have paid more attention when they were asking for the community to bring there opinion to the meetings. There is a website from the state that u can see how many sex offenders live in ur area just think it could be ur neighbor. Educated ur self most people never tell or wait till they are in there 40 to tell it could have all ready happen in someone else family. 1 in 6 boys are molested and 1 in 4 girls. And wake up people it is by a family member or a close family friend because they groom the parents first before the children so the parents may not be physically abuse They are smart they have molested most of there life. Do not attack the only person in Berks county trying to help and say not in my town because he is not getting much support from our PAID LAWMAKERS THAT Take Summer Vacations

It has been well documented that child molesters can not change their sexual attraction towards children. It's like trying to force a gay person straight. They can not control who they are attracted to. Therefore I personally believe they should be taken away from society to live out the remainder of their lives away from children. If you honestly believe that "They have served their court-mandated time, done their programs, paid their debt to society, and there is NO way that they would be released from prison if officials believed that they were in any way a threat to society" has reformed them in ANY way I suggest you read some studies that have been done on these individuals before making such a invalid statement.
It's amazing that people ACTAULLY believe that inmates are left out of prison because they are no longer a threat to society. You might want to do some research on that absurd statement as well!

I am stupefied that in "modern" society, a scant 12% of respondents (at time of writing) understand the need to make housing available for ex-offenders, even sex offenders. They have served their court-mandated time, done their programs, paid their debt to society, and there is NO way that they would be released from prison if officials believed that they were in any way a threat to society.

While sex crimes are particularly reprehensible, it is irresponsible for anyone to think that any person is unredeemable or disposable. By all means, we must look out for our loved ones -- especially our children -- but that does not mean that D.A. Adams' isolationist mindset is either what's best for Berks County or for society as a whole. If the D.A. had things his way, either all 67 Pennsylvania Counties would have facilities for this kind of ex-offender, or he would just leave the men and women who have served their time locked away forever. This latter approach is both unconstitutional and inhumane.

To any thinking and caring person, isolationism is not the answer. Local restrictions make it virtually impossible for many ex-offenders to find a place to live. When there are people who care (such as Rev. John Rush and New Person Ministries), who have such a wealth of experience in the field, and who are dedicated to helping these individuals to once again become productive members of society, it is only reasonable to utilize these resources to their greatest advantage, wherever they are located.

Maybe Mr. Adams views these human beings as nothing more than pigeons which he believes can be disposed of indiscriminately, cruelly, and without regard to any code of moral decency. Does he speak for the whole Democratic Party? I certainly hope that his actions and statements don't reflect the values of Democrats as a whole. Does he speak for God who says, "Love your neighbor"? Absolutely not.

It's politicians like Adams who give politics and politicians a bad name. There is no room for such a closed-minded, uninformed, selfish, and ignorant attitude in leadership positions in modern society. Instead of whining about the situation, why not take positive steps to rehabilitate and educate these people? Another complainer does nothing to help the situation.

Who is voting no on this? Are you illiterate or do you just live in one of the counties dumping your TRASH in our backyard. It's only fair they have one of these half rape houses in every town if you put one in wernersville

  • dave - 11 years ago

If you destroy a young child's life or rape anyone then you should be sentenced to immediate death.

Is there something local residents can do to stop them from living at the wernersville state hospital?
