No justification for giving Rodriguez a longer suspension than the other first time offenders. He NEVER tested positive for PED's, supposedly. So let's get real here and I don't even like him. And when it comes to PED's and specifically steroids. Why is Alabama given a complete pass on them? It is blatantly obvious that Alabama players are using steroids. Their freshmen players don't get ripped like that without help and its about time teams like Alabama and USC get hammered for it.

MLB and the MLBPA should negotiate a "two-strike" policy. The first PED offense should result in a 100 game suspension and the second a lifetime ban from the game, period. MLB players, whether they like it or not, are examples to younger athletes who are playing the game - with some wanting to make it the the majors. It's not fair to those players who want to do it the right way and not cheat. Those who were caught in the Biogenesis case deserved the consequences received - and more.

As far as Alex Rodriguez's seemingly unfair suspension, he will have his day with the arbitrator. The MLBPA will represent him. However, there are many players, such as Jonny Gomes with the Boston Red Sox, who are disgusted that players' dues will be used to defend A-Rod.

Baseball has always been a microcosm of society and, perhaps, just perhaps, we might think about what this does to our society as an whole. Is cheating acceptable? Is it okay for us to ask people to cheat in order to compete, whether it's on the baseball field or in the classroom or on Wall Street?

Civilized societies always have rules. Those who would defend the use of PEDs as adults having the right to do what they wish with their bodies are also denying the rights of someone who is a gifted athlete and _not_ using PEDs the possibility of receiving an A-Rod type contract.

Life isn't always "fair" but we absolutely should not enable an uneven playing field (pun intended) by allowing people to cheat.
