Should Spelling be part of the curriculum?

I am thoroughly disgusted and disappointed that spelling would be removed from any curriculum. Spelling, vocabulary, defining words, being able to use them and understand there use are ESSENTIAL in a well rounded "good" education. I am not a real supporter of the Common Core Standards, however, I had been seeing the ESL as a much more positive portion of it then the math. I will not change my feelings on the fact that cursive handwriting is also essential in a well rounded education. If, in fact our school system discontinues using spelling and all the necessary entities of spelling. Vocabulary, definitions, and usage from the curriculum I plan on trying to assemble parents and grandparents and voice my/our opinion strongly and demand this be discussed again. You see if you don't like something, you have the option of trying to change it, or to be like all the other sheep an accept it. I will not accept what I feel is fundamentally wrong and will be detrimental to my grandchildren's education. I will not "put them in private school" if I don't like it. that is not the answer, again that is bowing to them and accepting something I feel is wrong. I was also disappointed that this is the first comment. Just saying yes means nothing unless you put your reasons why down.
