Do STM express buses really get you there faster than regular lines? (You can explain in the comments section below)

The 420 is horrible in the afternoon rush hour. In the morning it is ok but runs into traffic between Marcil and the point where it gets to St-Jacques. In the afternoon it took 1h for me to get home once. Traffic is always horrendous along its entire route. I will likely never take this route again in the afternoon rush hour because of this bad experience. Going up University it's bad. Along René-Lévesque it's bad too because taxis are always parked in the reserved lane. We didn't take the highway (supposedly to avoid traffic) but we had to deal with the bumper-to-bumper mess on Sherbrooke between Claremount and Girouard instead. Absolute rubbish.

The 496 is good and is better than the other Lachine options (191, 491). The number of buses could be beefed up on this route since there is a new private cegep in Lachine close to this route (Sainte-Anne).

It depends, if the express bus uses nearly the same route as a regular line, then no, the express bus is not really faster. Take the 485 as an example. While in the west island, it share nearly the same route as the 218. Why?

The route of the 435 is another example. Its an express route as well, but it shares the same route of the 80 and the 165 (and part of the 150 as well)
