As the rate of contractor safety incidents rises on sites, who is responsible for safety on site and ensuring injuries don't occur?

Both Comments are good. Unless safety if driven vigorously from the corporate level down to the coal face it is not going to happen! A strong corporate safety lead takes the pressure off the worker/supervisor trying to do the 'right thing' safety wise and puts 'on notice' the manager/supervisor/worker who is chasing high production outcomes to enhance their individual position within the company. If you keep safety as a priority the end result will be higher production and increased harmony within the workplace - less sickies, no show's and staff turn over.

Everyone should be watching each others back. its a team environment and your life and your co workers life should be 100% priority. there also needs to be a standard of safety and a bench mark being set every month.

Maximizing safety is produced by a cooperative effort between company and workers with both sides listening to each other and employing continuous improvement philosophy. Minimizing accidents with mutual involvement by company and workers using patience and listening is paramount. Continuous improvement of safety must include everyone involved and must not be exchanged or marginalized by contradictory goals.
