Congratulations to Mountain Lakes on winning a state championship. How ever, all the mountain lake people are ripping on mendham and saying how it is such a smaller school. Think about the past of mendham football. We have been HORRENDOUS the past few years. Coach Carpluk turned the mendham football tradition around in one season. We had a much tougher schedule than mountain lakes. We had to square up against Delbarton, Central (twice), Par Hills, and a few other powerhouses in Morris County. Yeah they lost in the championship 39-0, but Phillipsburg is twice the size of Mendham! Mendham made the most of what they had and showed the most heart throughout all these teams.

Ok all u arrogant (it's the fans voting so we r going to win) minutemen fans- what happened? Did too many mommies forget to vote one day becsuse they slept in all day,? couldn't get off the couch after eating too msny bonbons? Short hills mall was hsving a sale? Your hot yoga instructor wanted to stretchbu out a little extra? I'll tell u what happened- you did nothing but claim mendhsm would win because you had suc a great fan base & this was the fans vote and you didnt pull through for the boys on the team! Many wealthy people talk a good game but are lazy & selfish. Therefore u lost the vote for ur precious boys. Shame on you all for runnin at the mouth & not pullin thru for the team! Apparently mtn. Lakes parents who have as much free luxury time as u mendham fans, as stuck up, poor sports, as they are at least took the time to vote 500 times each. I heard the team moms had get togethers at one of their mansions near the boulevard- hired 3 masseuses, 4 nsil technitions, a personal chef for the day and sat there with their top of the line laptops (surely taken from hubbies business & written off on tax returns) and had voting parties while dippin on bottles of DP and ported italian bottled waters. Its obvious which team has the more dedicated fans albeit stuck up, ignorant, vain, poor sports. Congrats to all the boys who played their hearts out no matter what their record. But shame in u wealthy/no-class/ nothing better to do parents. Neither of your teams are that good but apparently in ur minds they can beat the Seattle Seahawks. Mendham has to have a beyter record to be considered best in mo county & mtn. Lakes needs to step up their cakewalk schedule. U had 1 real opponent all year. Merry holidays rich folk! (Maybe one of u will be in that lexus commercial where its in ur driveway on xmas mornin with a big ref bow)

  • Jah - 10 years ago

Btw- not sure if your priveleged, ignorant minds realized this, but neither of your teams broke the state's top 20. For your teams to have 80% of ur rosters filled with athletes that have had personal trainers since they were 6 years old, who went to the most expensive camps your money can buy, and had parents who could buy them the best gear & support them constantly since they can skip work whenever they want even tho they dont need to b/c mommy is always home anyway (or at the gym, getting her rich person massages, at short hills mall shopping, etc) it's hard to believe that u arent good enuff to be in the top 20. So vote a thousand times each (u dont do anything else all day), claim ur the best, but really- even in your wealthy/ignorant minds you have to realize your not that good. Credit to all the players who bust their butts all year, only to have their stuck up parents embarrass them by their arrogant sportmanship & blind eyes to the truth. Btw, it's snowing a little and cold so make sure u clean off ur land rovers and escalades & take them instead of the sportscar today. Clean the tops off so ur snow n ice dont fly off n hit our hyndais & fords. Cuz for some reason u rich people feel entitled to leave the snow on ur roofs!

  • Jah - 10 years ago

There isn't much difference at all between Mtn. Lakes & Mendham fans! You are all rich, stuck-up snobs, that claim your sons are the best team. At home games, ur obnoxious, show no sportmanship, and turn your noses up when u see working class parents come to ur school to support their sons. Mendham fans- get real you were barely .500 this year, Par Hills, which is on this list crushed you. It doesnt matter that ur crying about how tough ur schedule was cuz PHHS played the same teams just about. Mtn. Lakes, you barely play anyone & would be about .500 yourselves if you played the teams PHHS and Mendham plays. You gotta love how you wealthy people perceive reality. I'd love to see the HERD (put in caps since the captain of the team back in the 1980's did, btw thanks for telling us ur life story & using this forum as ur social network shoutout session) play a tougher schedule & maybe then we can say they are the best in the county, but mendham u r in the conference that if u did better in would have a shot at being the best- but all ur $ and arrogance in the world cant allow u to win this vote. Teresa, did you finish those bon bons while reading this?

  • jack - 10 years ago

To Cliff Wilson...There is someone with a brain. Good for you!

  • Cliff Wilson - 10 years ago

60 out of the 75 varsity players are either on the honor roll the merit roll. That's 80%. That's the team of the year.

  • Karen - 10 years ago

Some of you should all be ashamed of yourselves and I hope that none of the boys read this. They played their hearts out and those hearts are hearts of gold... Not mean spirited like I see out here.

  • Parsippany hills fan - 10 years ago

Although only Mendham fans and Mt lakes fans feel the need to argue, I feel it neccesary to point out that the Parsippany hills front 5 (Keyes, Dogbe, Monroe, S. Hill, and Weiss) would dominate the runwind games of both Mendham and Mt lakes. Furthermore, Piccoli and Salgado would clean up anything that the front 5 missed. The secondary for par hills is full of big time play makers like Bluj and Smith. Par Hills smothered Mendham and I don't think Mt lakes would have eclipsed 130 rushing yards against this defense. Clearly the best team in Morris County.

  • Jack - 10 years ago

FYI---All of Mendham fans congratulated Mt. Lakes for a great season. That's the difference in the class of people in Mendham and Mt. Lakes. Mt. Lakes needs anger management and are only embarrassing themselves the way they speak.

  • Jack - 10 years ago

I'll Mend em? Really? Are you 5 or 50?

  • I'll Mend em - 10 years ago

bornpowerindex.com ranks every team in the state by a formula determined by margin of victory and strength of schedule.

    Phillipsburg 84.931
    Mountain Lakes84.832
    Mendham 67.699

If Mt Lakes and Mendham played, Born Power Index would make Mt Lakes a 17.2 point favorite.

All 4 of Mendham's regular season wins were against sub-.500 teams. Mt Lakes dominated Caldwell who beat several quality Group 2's and 3's.

  • My lakes fan - 10 years ago

Caldwell plays a tougher schedule ten Mendam. Don't forget ML had two Tds called back. When ML scrimmaged the bigger schools they still dominated. ML was the best blocking high school team I ever saw. They could throw but did not need to. Ground game wins state championship most often. They were big up front Mendham would not win that match up

  • A C - 10 years ago

Mendham lost to Morristown who went 3-7...and in the finals 39-0..."Team of the Year"?

  • John - 10 years ago

As a Mendham fan, i congratulate Mt. Lakes for winning a state championship, however Mendham's schedule is much more difficult than Mt. Lakes. Mendham had to play Delbarton, West Morris Central (twice), Par HIlls, and Phillipsburg. Mendham's d held Delbarton's high power offense to the third lowest all season. Mendham'f offensive and defensive lines would dominate against Mt. Lakes, and Mendhams linesbacker's (Marconi and Byrne) are two of the best in the state. Byrne was also a force while running the ball, along with Beneducci, Jones, and Wetherington. Horan has a more accurate arm than Lake's quarterback. Horan is also lethal running the ball. If mendham were ever fortunate enough to play Mt. Lakes it would be a good game, but Mendham would win by two or three scores

  • Christian Narag - 10 years ago

Lot's of anonymous heroes out here speculating what if scenarios ..and taking bullshit shots at each other.

My name is Christian Narag....Mt Lakes Captain 1985/1986. Lori Sica...my wife Tracy who you went to high school with says hello. Please give my best wishes to your husband Jeff....who I had the pleasure of playing against when he was a Captain at Whippany Park in 1984/1985. He was tough to block. Here's the deal folks....we got no beef with each other. I mean WTF people? We aren't playing Mendham tomorrow. We went 12-0 again for the 3rd time in 5 years....have made the playoffs for 21 years straight. We are the HERD. Period. I live for our program...as you HERD people know.
Mendham did their thing this year. We had a bad run in the early 80's where noone thought we would return to the greatness of the 70's. This is the same feeling for them. Let them enjoy it....they made their sectional finals.....respect that.

Vote as much as you want my HERD family....but don't talk shit out here...it's not what we do.

  • Michael - 10 years ago

Mendham is the obvious winner. I doubt Mountain Lakes could play the same competition Mendham plays every single week. Also, Mendham Fans are the greatest fans in the world. Btw just because we didn't win a state championship doesn't mean we are not a good football team. I would like to see Mountain Lakes play Phillipsburg and get beat too because they were a good football team but they just out played us. Mendham would beat Mountain Lakes any day.

  • Lisa T. - 10 years ago

Fans, let's keep these comments in the best spirit of football and competition.!!!! Mountain Lakes had a terrific season and deserves to be applauded, but look at their schedule. Although Mendham had a slow start they rallied against some really tough teams to make it to the Championship game. Mendham 's Group is by far the more dominant and difficult and Mendham's players showed character, heart and an unwillingness to give up. They ARE the Morris County Team of the Year....as is Coach Carpluck! BTW, jan, do you really think Mountain Lakes is ANY different then Mendham????????????????

  • Karen - 10 years ago

Quick question...someone told me the % were actually not working correctly. So I voted at lunch, wrote down the percentages, just came back to look @ 5:10 pm, and the percentages are lower than they were at lunch time. Can someone explain this? Seems a little funny ?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • Theresa Pellechio - 10 years ago

The article specifically says, "Please remember these are fan selections." Your comments and sarcasm says volumes about your character and sportsmanship. BTW... You forgot to mention staying home and eating Bon Bons!!!! The Mendham Minutemen and their families have character, respect and only display good sportsmanship.

  • Jah - 10 years ago

Theresa, it's not a poll deciding which team has the most fans! It's asking who was the best team in morris county. Mendham got smoked by Par Hills who barely has any votes in this poll. By far, they are the worst team on this list. Let's give credit where credit is due! It's not which team has the biggest following & mommies who can afford to stay home & vote all day long. If the poll was asking which team has fsns that gave nothing better to fo than vote all day then Mendham may win. But, if we are voting on the best team in mo. County, let's be realustic here. Btw mendham fans are obnoxious, rude, and snobby, which again isn't the poll question or yall would win hands down.

Mendham football was dominating in the late 80s. Coach Carpluk brought Mendham football to many titles through out the 90s and earl 2000s. And now after years of loss and disappointment Mendham football rises again. You can talk all day about stats and scores, it's the heart of this Mendham Football team and their head coach that measures off the charts. #2ndcomngofMendhamfootball

  • orlofski - 10 years ago

mountain lakes should win this no doubt. One of the best teams in the state. Mendham, not so much. Go herd

  • Cliff Wilson - 10 years ago

Mendham is a phenominal high school. They have had one of the best basketball programs in the state, with one of the states best basketball coaches, Jim Baglin. Mendham has had great football programs in the past, however, if you compare what Mt. Lakes footbal accomplished this year you will see that they deserve to be Morris County's Team of the Year. Some people bring up schedules and teams you play. However, the schools don't decide the opponents, the State does. It is based on the amount of students and is supposed to create balanced competition. Mt. Lakes faced whoever the state told them to and beat them all by a total score of 429 to 82. In the three State games Mt. Lakes beat their State ranked opponents by the following scores. Dover 53 -12, Lincoln 45 -12 and Caldwell 26 - 6. Mendham had a good year, however, they were 6-5-1 against the teams the State told them to play, NOT 12 and 0. Give credit where it's due.

  • Theresa Pellechio - 10 years ago

I am absolutely shocked at some of your comments. Are these comments from adults or children? All of these boys should be proud of themselves and we should be proud of all of them. And congratulations to Mt. Lakes for a very impressive record but this is the fans voting. This does not have anything to do with their season's record. This is high school football and sarcasm is not necessary or appropriate. So let the team with the most "FANS" win!!!!!!! Go Mendham!!!!!!!

  • Rags - 10 years ago

We don't have the luxury of being good once in a while. We expect excellence all of the time.
    GO HERD!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Robert Reynolds - 10 years ago

A team that wins only 50% of their games the best team in the county? Please...............

  • D C - 10 years ago

Anyone that thinks a team that went 6-5-1 should be Team of the Year is on crack.

  • Mendham fan - 10 years ago

Let's be honest... ML takes the cake

  • Theresa Pellechio - 10 years ago

Jim, There is no argument that Mountain Lakes had a great season but this is the "FANS" voting!!!!!! It is clear that Mendham has an enormous following and deserves to win this. We are proud to be a part of and support Mendham Football and it shows!!! Go Mendham!

  • Alex - 10 years ago

look at the schedules...... its that clear

  • John - 10 years ago

You both make great points. Both teams worked very hard to achieve and overcome. May the coach and team with the most support win.

  • Bruce Schmeal - 10 years ago

Disagree...Look at the Mendham program. Ignored, overlooked and nearly kicked to the curb by everyone for years. These boys never gave up,never rolled over and battled it out all season. They came up from the ashes to go to the championship. No disrespect to any team but Mendham is the clear winner for 2013

  • Jim Constandi - 10 years ago

Are you kidding me? This isn't a popularity contest. Mountain Lakes is clearly the best team in the state hands down!!! Let their record speak for itself. I mean come on people, they were very well prepared, a tribute to the coaching staff.....and they were far superior to all of their competition in 2013! Give these kids their just do. Support Mountain Lakes, those kids worked really hard and they deserve it.
