I think the poll results are simply a showing of that there are more investors here than technology enthusiasts. Not that it should be surprising, being an investment blog of course. Then again, I'm not really an investor as much as a long term holder, and definitely on the technological enthusiasm side, and I chose yes, so derive from this what you will.
The real question is, of course: SHOULD Bitcoin investors/holders/enthusiasts be worried about altcoins? SHOULD they hate them? I'm not sure, but I can tell you that if any altcoin would/should take over, it should be namecoin. Mining simply has extra uses, and it can be a very powerful tool in a world where our privacy is ever diminishing. If you don't know to what I talk about, search around about namecoins. Still, the question remains... and ultimately, I think it would be silly to just hate altcoins and ignore them. I don't think anyone that hates altcoins could be called a technology enthusiast - and this is why I would simply label them an investor instead.

People want choice and variety and to improve on what is, so the alt coins were inevitable. Being still in its infancy, Bitcoin is volatile enough for my stomach so I really wouldn't pay any attention to anything you send other than Bitcoin.
