I'd like to point out that not ONCE has the show taught about 'love and tolerance'. Nobody uses it or says it for a reason: It never defined the fandom, and a lot of us have always been asshats. This string of three words was just used to troll back trolls on 4Chan, and /mlp/ has long since stopped using it.
Now, back to the topic of the show... A prime example I'd like to use is A Canterlot Wedding. When Cadence is being a jerk, what does Twilight do? Try to talk it out with her? No. She yells at her, pouts, and jumps to accusations without finding evidence. Equestria is most certainly NOT paradise. There are as many horrible ponies there as there are people here (See Putting Your Hoof Down and Rarity Takes Manehatten for more examples).

Interesting that a cartoon show about characters that teach nothing but love and tolerance would lead to conversations like this... Suddenly I understand the lack of humans in Equestria. Personally, I voted for Generosity because it shows what MLP is all about; becoming a good friend. The other songs are great, but none of them encompass that message quite as well as this one did. It's nice to see Rarity taken from "that pony who makes dresses and whines" to someone who loves and cares for everypony

I picked Bats because it is a catchy song that details a conversation... and I'm a sucker for musicals and the like and this hearkened a Nightmare Before Christmas feel that was just fun to listen to. Often times a song in a show like this is skippable and really only re-enforces what was last stated or said. But here because it's an argument that comes to a head within the song it makes itself important within the episode. To skip it is to actually miss legitimate plot. And that is something that all songs should aspire to really.
@MM Dude, you've got to stop escalating these arguments, the phrase "don't feed the trolls" doesn't just mean to not respond to someone trolling, it also means to try and keep a level head, because if a would-be troll sees someone who seems easily angered, they're going to try and push their buttons to get a rise out of them, and this it not different. An eye for an eye really does make everyone blind.
@MM Pinkie Pie is my favorite pony too. When people insult her or Fluttershy, you just have to realize that they are unequivocally wrong and tell them why. After that, I go back to insulting Rarity and Twilight Sparkle and maybe even RD if I'm in a good mood.

Bats gets my vote - songs that are in episodes mostly to burn screen time rub me the wrong way; I much prefer songs that move the story along both visually and narratively. AttC simply burns screen time but at least the rest of the episode is paced well enough that it does not feel like they should have spent that 2-3min elsewhere.

Right now, it's Apples to the Core, then Generosity, Hearts as Strong as Horses, and Bats! for me. I'm surprised Bats! is doing so well, too. The instrumentation of the song was much better than the actual vocals for me.

I chose "Bats!" because in that episode, the song is actually also a conversation among the protagonists which starts with AppleJack and Fluttershy trying to convince each other of their own points. The other ponies eventually side with AppleJack and convinces Fluttershy to do something she does not want to do. Most songs in shows like this is a monologue stating and reinforcing its own message. But the song in "Bats!" there are two messages that are tugging at each other: 1.) The vampire fruit bats are pests and a problem that must be solved. 2.) The vampire fruit bats are NOT a problem and is actually a potentially good thing, if treated properly (give them a sanctuary so as to help provide the Apple Family strong viable apple seeds).
I guess I'll vote for Bats! since it tried to be something different for this show and I feel it got what it was going for pretty well.
For me, "Hearts Strong as Horses" is tied with the EqG cafeteria song for favorite song of G4. "Bats" is in 2nd for the season.

Finally? I've been listening to people talk about how so ABSOLUTELY AMAZING Pinkie's "Smile Smile Smile" is for two years, despite the fact that I have to hit mute every time I hear it due to how ear-grating it is. There's a reason some people refer to Pinkie as the song horse, as her singing and making little sense are pretty much her only two character traits.
Finally Pinkie Pie and AppleJack are getting the credit they deserve.
I liked Apples to the Core and Hearts as Strong as Horses, but not Bats or Generosity. For Bats, I just can't get behind the idea of them turning into some mob, so I don't like the context of the song. It might have been a fine song if sung by villains instead of our protagonists. Generosity just didn't flow well, so I have a hard time remembering any of it.
Bleh, that pathetic pile of sh*t excuse for a song "Bats!" is beating everything except Apples to the Core. Don't know what people see in that 'song'. Generosity and Apples to the Core deserve to win this, so I'm glad at least the latter is doing good, but pretty dissapointed that Generosity isn't doing well at all, that song was fantastic.
