Nicole, another example of just how integral Derpy is to Bronies: In March 2011 Lauren Faust was donating MLP:FIM concept art (the original sketches of the ponies that were part of her pitch to Hasbro for MLP:FIM) to be auctioned in support of Japan. Major natural disaster in Japan in spring 2011. Along with the concept art she made a concept-art-style sketch of Derpy Hooves. Now that's meta. Lauren Faust, creator of MLP:FIM, made a sketch of a mostly fan-created character based on a background pony in a show that started out as her sketches. That's a full circle. The sketch raised a lot of money. And made a _lot_ of fans very happy. This is why Derpy, an animator's error, is such a huge thing for fans of the MLP:FIM show. It's like writing a new verse to your favorite song and finding that not only has the band heard your verse, but they now sing your verse as well at live performances from time to time.

Good morning Nicole. 8^) I've been a fan of MLP:FIM since early 2011, so much so that I created a MLP:FIM community on Dreamwidth and I've been nurturing it ever since. I think that the term Brony is a convenient term that means a fan of MLP:FIM, the animated series. The Brony fandom has a _long_ history of sharing opinions, theories and preferences without necessarily agreeing on them. As in 'opinion X is interesting and I'm glad it makes you happy but I don't necessarily think the same way'. Seeing what others take from MLP:FIM broadens my horizons! So, disagreeing with a lot of memes and what not does not make you less of a Brony. 8^) As for Derpy, sure she was an animation error, but she was an obscure animation error that the fans noticed and adopted. Derpy was like the secret Brony handshake -- you know who Derpy is then you have more than a casual knowledge of MLP:FIM. And when Derpy started getting included on purpose in the cartoon, that meant that the animators and show staff knew that we loved what they were doing. The fun had been doubled, we had touched the sky! It's the feedback through Derpy that makes her so popular, and we've built on that. Just like fans notice background characters that appeal to them and build them up. There are a lot of very creative Bronies, and since this fandom is very interactive, that creativity interacts as well to create elaborate stories for background ponies. As for jerks, there are jerks everywhere. Jerks rise up to annoy you because, well, they're jerks and they like to annoy. 8^D Don't let the jerks get you down.
I'm confused whether I'm a "brony" or not... I LOVE MLP:FIM and is a huge fan, but I don't FEEL like a brony. I disagree with a lot of memes and fanon which just annoys me. Pinkamena meme/fanon for example: Bronies treat her like a different pony than Pinkie. I mean, come on! It's still Pinkie and it'll always be Pinkie, Pinkamena is just her full name while Pinkie is her nickname, she's ALWAYS the same pony whether her main is poofy or flat. I also fin the Twilight scepter annoying. Derpy is popular for no good reason. She never was an important character in the first place, just all fanservice from nothing more but a animation error. These people keeps getting more and more annoying, I've been wondering if I should stop my internet subscribtion and watch the show for what it is WITHOUT these so-called bronies ruining it for me. I know it's not all of you, but a lot of bronies I've seen are jerks. They even comment offensive things like it's not insulting people, but it does. Some might be close minded or immature and not know they offend, but I doubt it's that many because in real life I've never met anyone who's truly immature. Just childish, but that's nothing like immature. I never got the obsession with background ponies either. Sure some of them have really awesome designs and I love them, even reading stories about them and look at art. But I don't get the huge obsession people have over them and I dislike most of the popular fanons. So am I a brony or not, I'm pretty sure I'm not and is just "very huge fan" by now.

ShadowGentleman, just wanted to say not all bronies wake up early to watch the episodes. When it's morning for you I (and many others) have been up for hours. When a new episode airs it's 16:30pm here when I stream, so definitely not moring. All bronies isn't American you know.

Some of us go to high school, some of us go to college, some of us go to work, some of us do both, cause let's face it, the economy sucks right now. We have families; parents, children, siblings, significant others who love us and we love them back. As a collective, we make awesome music, write terrible to amazing story works, and give to charities. Sure, a few of us are crazy, and a few of us are hypocrites, but we're all human; for all of our eccentricities and outright craziness, we're all still very much human. You would disregard all of this-everything that we are- for our enjoyment of a TV show. I can't force you to leave, but seriously: what makes you think it is okay to decide to wake up and make fun of people for the way they live their lives? Hating someone for who they choose to be, when they've done nothing wrong to you, when you don't even know them, it's just... wrong. There is so much that is wrong here.

Perhaps I could understand (not condone, understand) why you're anti-brony, if you could give me a solid answer as to why the show itself is so terrible . I, objectively, want to know: what is wrong with the show other than the fact that the assumed demographic is different than you expected? Is it the animation, the voice acting, the situations? Listen it is still close these 2 are some of the best characters in the fandom and I love Luna but I respect derpy because she has a disability and I do as well with asbergers. Whoever comes out on top one thing is for sure these are the two best ponies in the mlp universe by the fans. This is a tough call but I choose Luna because her design, backstory, character, and her apperance in the show and comics make her better than derpy who i will admit is adorable and quirky, but it takes more than adorableness to make me love a character it takes backstory, development, and designs to make me love a character. Still I love derpy and she is a great pony to represent the special ones, but Luna is better looking and I love her powers as being the one to control the night which is amazing. All I am saying is dont get your panties in a twist these are still 2 amazing ponies and deserve all the credit they receive.
