Mr. Toad all the way, baby! Even though the odds are long, I participate when the project interests me. Like most of your crowd-ka-teers, I like seeing what other folks are doing. The bah-humbug people can just zip it! If it's too confusing, don't join in... KEEP UP the great work Mikey and Cathy and Diva Dan. Love you all to pieces.

I don't usually do the challenges because it seems I always have a project going on when they come out, however, I always look at them. I do wish I could win a giveaway once in a while without having to actually win a challenge to get it....I mean, what kind of chance do I really have with the thousands of people who enter? I love looking at everyone's work and color choices they use to personalize it. Don't change a thing!

Love your site and am working on my first challenge. With multiple challenges I can pick and choose which one I want to try. Only thing I would ask is that when you do a challenge, have a category for beginners with a prize. That way, more of us will become involved and feel like we could win. I feel so out of my element when I see other peoples work.

  • Samira - 10 years ago

I think it is amazing that you can keep up with them all. Running a business is a Lot of work! I'm glad that you can juggle it all for us. If you can do it, we can too! The challenges are my main motivator, but the giveaways in connection to them is a pretty great benefit you guys offer.

The variety is wonderful. Being able to pick and choose different size and/or complication of projects is fabulous.

I do agree with Calli; there is some room for improvement on your website. There is so much duplication and everything is on Facebook, though, so I don't usually have too much trouble finding things quickly.

You guys are wonderful! Although I don't do any of the challenges because of my work schedule etc. I do enjoy seeing every one of them and how each person personifies their own item. I say if you personally do not feel overwhelmed with the coming and going on Mikey, Cathy, and Diva Dan...then who should care? Just because you offer a project doesn't mean all the same people are going to do the same ones...every single one of them. I and my family only need so many scarves, hats, afghans etc. It is the art in the artist that creates these masterpieces that matters. I don't know how you guys do it all....but I love every bit of it!

Please do not let negative comments change anything about the way you run The Crowd! I admit that sometimes I get disappointed because my schedule does not allow me to participate in everything...but that's just it...it is my schedule!! I love The Crochet Crowd and I have several patterns saved for when my schedule allows me the time. Please do not stress because you can't make everyone happy...it is impossible! You are awesome!! Keep up the outstanding work!!

  • Sabrina Cordova - 10 years ago

I like that you offer more than 1 challenge at the same time. I do not have a lot of money so challenges for larger projects are usually beyond my means. But the Hearts Scarf and smaller projects I can participate in. I think you are doing a great job!!

  • Diane - 10 years ago

Mikey, you and Cathy create such a fun and inspirational atmosphere on The CrochetCrowd. I love it. I go there to learn, share, feel like I have some company in my home and be truly inspired to create.
Keep the challenges, prizes, patterns and everything else coming.
It's up to the members to chose which and how many challenges they want to participate in. You are not forcing anyone to do anything. Whiners and complainers are just that. They are unhappy, and misery loves company.
You need to put on a really thick coat of skin Mikey and maybe some blinders too. You are doing a phenomenal job. You obviously have a great heart. Just follow it. And I agree with Cathy, don't let this stress you out. Take care of yourself.
My suggestion: Hit Delete when you see those negative comments coming at you.
You seem to have come to a hump in the road Mikey. Take a deep breath and let the support of your followers carry you to the other side.
    Cheers, Diane

I agree with you and Cathy! You will never be able to please everybody all of the time. You are doing such a GREAT job at encouraging us ladies/fellows "hookers" with giving us ideas and different ways to use those ideas. We need your continued ideas and encouragement to keep us all going as we all will hit a dead spot and need something to peek our interest again! Thanks for keeping us all happy "hookers!"

This is not mandatory, right? How many patterns or pattern books do we "addicts" purchase, for just one pattern? I love seeing all the different ways the same pattern is interpreted. I love being able to access a site, 24/7, knowing there will be help somewhere. "Back in the day" when the shops all closed up by 5PM, the only way to "master" a stitch was to keep ripping out until you finally got it! I admit, Ravelry is my first place, but that is because I am burdened with the ability to knit AND crochet. I learned, pretty much self taught, crochet when my "beginner husband" didn't like the clicking of the knitting needles! GASP!!! However, I thought I would never, ever master the crochet directions. So, even though you are #2, and Ravelry is #1, . . . . hmm, perhaps I should rephrase that: You are #1 for Crochet. Politically correct, right? NO WAY, I did not just do the wrong side for the right side!!!!!!!!!!

I have never done either challenges or the give aways. I never seem to have time,, but enjoy looking at what others create. I really enjoy the youtube video, emails, and everything I know of The Crochet Crowd. Thanks for putting up with all the crazies. You are doing a great job.

  • Dena - 10 years ago

Just as there is the option to change the channel when something you don't like comes on TV or the radio, so too no one is being forced to participate. The whiners and bullies are a dime a dozen and some people are under the misconception that it is their mission in life to try to make everyone around them as unhappy as they are. There will always be those personalities, no matter where you go or what you do so run the site to the best of your abilities, consider your options and suggestions submitted then make your own choice. Just remember, you aren't obliged to please everyone as it is impossible to please us all at the same time!

  • Cathy - 10 years ago

I would like to say......I just like being a member of the group. I enjoy that I have someone to ask if I run into a problem or need an idea. I am busy with my own crochet projects....very busy with family birthdays, weddings & babies. So as of yet, I haven't done any of the challenges. I love the scarf and I will be doing that one after I finish these 3 hats I have to get finished this up coming week. If I am not on time for the challenge, it doesn't bother me.......but I am happy to see the prizes out there and wish everyone that participates good luck.
I do however, have a suggestion, for Mikey, I wouldn't want to see you overwhelmed with all the EXTRA work, stress & demands on your time, You should maybe, step back, look at the big picture, speak with Daniel and think about it a lot........see if you can handle all this extra pressure you will be having for the foreseeable future.........remember you are enjoying the rush & excitement of it all now, but it is very possible to crash & burn....don't take on so much that it will be not fun and no good feelings in yourself anymore about your Crochet.....

I find the website really hard to navigate - trying to find the Shimmer Heart Scarf was really difficult, I never know if I am logged in or out - generally find it too busy with random links, sometimes to nowhere. I like the YouTube videos. Sorry to be so negative. VeryPink website is good, as are Attic24, Purl Bee & Ravelry. These are simple to negotiate with clear internal and external links, libraries, etc.

  • Sherry - 10 years ago

Oh, for heavens sake, if someone doesn't want to participate in a challenge, then they simply don't. No problem. I haven't done so yet, but love to look at what others have created, it inspires me to try to do more, to move forward in my endeavors to learn more stitches. The Crochet Crowd isn't about winning, it's about learning and sharing, and encouraging others.

  • Morgen Marshall - 10 years ago

I like looking at the creativity of others, as it inspires me to keep working on my projects. I don't have time to do all the challenges, and certainly there are some that I don't particularly like to do. However, I learn from them all. I don't care about giveaways, since I never enter them, anyway. If I do, it's just because I want to share the information. I never win, so it's just a time-waster for me. I think keeping the challenges going, and one geared for the more novice crocheter while one is for the advanced crocheter, would be welcome. I would like to see each of the challenges offer a new stitch or pattern, too, so we all learn while we crochet. Crochet is my hobby, not my vocation. I love the creativity and the outlet it offers, but I don't like to feel pressured to "make something" all the time. Just picking up my hook is a good thing...

  • Eva - 10 years ago

If you offer a variety of challenges then people can pick which ones they want to do. As I do not like to piece afghans together I chose not to do the hearts challenge. Now that leaves me open to try another challenge or contest if I want. Also leaves me open to work on other projects that come up too. Crocheting should be done for fun and the joy you bring to others that you gift to. not just for the chance to win something.

  • Lala - 10 years ago

    I like that there are more than one challenge taking place at a time. If you only had one challenge and a person doesn't care for that challenge, then they have to sit and wait for another to come around. Just because there are many offered, doesn't mean one has to do them ALL (unless of course, they are able). When there are many to choose from, one has a better chance of completing one because they can choose one they LIKE, providing the motivation to finish. Thank you for putting out the challenges... I have become a better hooker because of YOU (The Crochet Crowd) THANK YOU! {{hugs}}

  • Melissa Slater - 10 years ago

I like that you can do the ones you want to and if don't do them, oh well , no one is forcing you do all of them that decision is up to each individual what they can handle and not handle. I love the challenges, I just participated in my first one this week and really enjoyed it. I hope to do another one someday. Keep it up.

  • Heather - 10 years ago

I love the assorted challenges and projects that you put out there for us. I love to have lots of projects on the go too keep me interested! (I will complain that there was no option on the poll that said "Add more challenges!!")I get bored way too easily by working on one project at a time. Some people have lots of time to crochet, others just a little. Putting out a few long term projects with a longer deadline, and then a few smaller projects with a shorter deadline is a great way to keep everyone involved. They can do as much or as little as they want. And not to mention that it's a great way to learn new patterns and techniques! The prizes are a great incentive! I'd do the challenges without them, but who doesn't love a chance at a free giveaway!

  • Lani DeLong - 10 years ago

I cannot believe the avarice in some people's hearts! I love looking at the creativity in all the challenges, but hate the discussions about winning. Keep the challenges, so much fun, and lose the negativity by stopping the rewards.

  • Sherry - 10 years ago

    I think it's fine.
We all just have to pick & choose which challenge or crochet along we'd like to participate in.
Just like all the crochet patterns we find on line or in a book....
You just have to choose the one you'd like to do best!
Keep up the good work! Lovin' it!

  • Kathleen Nassichuk - 10 years ago

There are many members. I believe we all have different tastes and are interested in different challenges. By having more than one at a time; it gives opportunity for different members to join in. Some people feel the need to "join everything" I am not one of those. I look for a challenge that I will enjoy and be able to complete successfully. Thank you for all your offers and patterns. Let's build an encouraging community and leave the drama out of our wool bags.

  • Barb Passe - 10 years ago

I agree with Bev. Do what you want, if people don't like it, they don't have to participate or follow. I love to see what everyone makes, even though I've never participated.

  • Denise - 10 years ago

Love your work! Keep it up!

  • Carla - 10 years ago

I love your challenges. I am not so much into if I win, I love to learn.

  • Bev - 10 years ago

The give aways and challenges are your choice and you should do what you want. If people want to participate or not, it's up to them. Your site, your choice.
