Started watching pony since G1. My sister had tape recordings of the episodes and i watched and liked them quite a bit. Then I saw Tales when it came out. And later g3 and liked it too. And then FiM, and I was quite happy to see the show injecting a bit of the dark tone of the first gen and some mechanics from all gens. So it was a great fusion of the better parts of it's history.

According to the 2013 herd census, the median brony is age 20. According the above survey, the median has watching since 2011.
    .
    .
Conclusion: a typical brony has been a brony for roughly 15% his entire lifetime.

Heard about it in May 2011 and planned to check it out but forgot about it. Months later a friend recommended it to me and I started watching it the Wednesday following the S2 premiere. By the time I got through S1 the 2nd part of The Return of Harmony had aired and I proceeded to watch those episodes and Lesson Zero was the first episode I waited for. It's been a long time and I look forward to what the future will bring.

March 22, 2011. I remember that day so well. Came home from a crappy day of school, went to E621 (oh noooo, a furry site), saw a picture by CSImadmax, the one where the Mane 6 are celebrating Luna's birthday ("Happy Birthday Luna"), and was curious what it was. I quickly found out it was this new MLP, and I was nervous to try it, but after Wikipedia-ing it, I decided to check it out; I watched the two-parter first episode, and I loved it so much. Went on to watch about 9 more episodes that night, then finished all of the episodes released by that point the next day (Episode 20). I'm one of those old farts that remembers the simple, early dramas of the fandom, when we still argued about who the "best pony" was, and the "New Lunar Republic" crap. We were so naive and young back then, but it was great, nonetheless.

TLDR; First half of 2011, it will be my 3-year anniversary of brony-ness in exactly a month. Hooray. I hope you didn't actually read all that up there. Go read a book or something. :V

Found out about the show in mid-2011 from my friend via PSN. The way he worded it ("[watch all episodes] and you're a real man") made me think it was very girly and couldn't possibly be good. By December, I started seeing pony images occasionally, and I started to consider at least watching the first episode to get it over with. When I watched it a month later, I actually liked it, and I kinda hate my friend for the terrible wording.

Huh. So little people started watching FiM from the very beginning :D.
I personally started somewhere in November-December 2010, after the first few episodes already aired.
Saw a few screenshots on 4chan, liked the animation style. Decided to check it out, got hooked.

One of the things about growing up with a younger sister. She always got to pick what was on the TV. I had to have watched the MLP movie at-least 100 times and every episode of G1 over and over.
Sister loved particular episodes/mini sagas, her favorite was the one with the wishing coins.
It grows on you after watching soo much of MLP when younger. When i found out about Friendship is Magic, I just had to watch it. Ponies just grow on you after watching so much of them.

I was one of those early 2011 word of mouth people that found out about ponies through online gaming. I was playing TF2 in early March and randomly connected to Ponybrigade's Legion of Ponies server. At first I thought it was throwaway, but the more I played the more I liked it. They would spam pony songs all the time and I eventually got sick of the songs(I heard Art of the Dress SO many times). Then, I found out that the first season was still running and about a great blog called Equestria Daily(this was just after the 4chan flame wars). Checked out the blog, Youtubed the pilot episode, and watched ep's until I had to wait for the last few to air. Been a fan ever since.

One week before Magical Mystery Cure aired. I was really bored. And sick. And needed something to cheer me up.

The ones who started watching MLP since G1-G3 are mostly girls.
