Black Beauty was my favorite at six. Loved Velveteen Rabbit, too. Truly, if it was a book, I'd read it--or a cereal box, or anything with words! Lived for the Bookmobile each week!

Really don't remember what my favorite book was at 6 as it's been more than 50 years since I was that age and lived across the street from the public library at the time! In my younger years I loved Frank Baum 's OZ books. Anything to do with horses. The Boxcar Children books and of course a bit older Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boy series as well.

My favorite book when I was six was "The Giving Tree", by Shel Silverstein. It's a moving tale that grows WITH the reader; so every year I was reminded to read it again, and every year I DID get more from it.

My favorite book when I was six had to be Dr. Seuss' "On Beyond Zebra" . It never failed to make me laugh at some of the crazy letters he invented.
When I was 6 my favorite book was Swiss Family Robinson, a story of a family trapped on an island due to a ship sinking. I had a bad home life and the family in the book was a loving, caring family who took care of each other and had wonderful adventures and learned lots of new things it seemed daily. How I wanted to be stranded on that island with them and all the fun they were having. I lived in a landlocked state, but since I've grown up and can choose where to live, I have never lived in a state that is not near the ocean. Something about the water calls to me, and if I'm not near it I am not happy.
I'm interested in seeing what other people had as favorite books when they were young too, and what your favorite book was too Becky. If we're sharing then its only fair you share also.
