people have habits. sometimes unhealthy ones. i myself am a former smoker, and i disprove of smoking indoors. outdoors is fine though. it shouldn't be an issue to let students smoke in their cars. let them have that at least if you aren't allowing designated smoking areas.

Coming from someone who has worked at a facility that has banned all tobacco products, I can honestly say that it doesn't matter whether it is banned or not, people are going to do what they want anyway. I personally feel that people should have the freedom to do what ever they choose as long as they can do it responsibly.

I think it should be fine if they want to smoke in their cars. However, they should keep it in their cars and properly dispose of their butts.

As a former smoker, I have personally lived both sides of the smoking debate. However, if we as students desire to better ourselves academically, then we should also strive to improve ourselves physically. Please believe that children look up to us as role models whether you have children or not. Don't just be 'book smart'; exercise your ability to make healthier choices, and stop smoking today! In 1992, I attended this same campus as a smoker, and I did not make the best grades. Now, 21 years later, I am attending this same campus as a non-smoking straight A student. I am 100% for a tobacco-free college campus, and I am not afraid to take a stand.

I think banning tobacco products even in your personal car is a great idea. The issue is not so much that people smoke in their cars, it is the fact that they have no regard to others when the dump their ashes in the parking lot. If you want to smoke you should be willing to live with the trash you create.

My problem is people using "smokeless" tobacco on campus. It is more easily hidden, and they spit the by-products in the drinking fountains, sinks, even on the track and gym floors!
