I had never heard of Mark Sandlin, either, until I googled him... I'm with Nadia all the way on this, and Mark (with all due respect for the grace-filled work you also do), maybe YOU can have next year... Either way, it's all in fun, and I will cheer for both of you as you bring the Gospel to those you serve.

    Go Nadia!

Thank you, everyone, for your comments about Nadia. She does sound like an amazing person, but my vote is still with Mark, as I have been following him on Facebook almost since I first got on Facebook nearly a decade ago.

Carolyn, Nadia may have tattoos but that's just skin. Her work in inner city Denver and her sermons are A M A Z I N G! I find her verbalization of God far more in touch with my own spirituality than Mark's.

I wondered the same thing. While her tattoos are quite visible and popular, and ripe with meaning religious, liturgical and scriptural... her work far surpasses her tattoos.

She was nominated for her tattoos because she was going up against Albert Mohler's suits--representing the shift from the conservative images of same-looking christianity to a more inclusive and diverse church body. Which is also something her ministry focuses heavily on.

I'm glad she has more going on than just her tattoos. But why is she nominated for her tattoos and not for her work? Just wondering.

I love Mark's work. I have many friends who link to his blog on their facebook accounts, and read it often.
Nadia, also does some amazing work. She too has powerful words of grace and truth (words that open eyes)... She is more, much more, than her tattoos... and has plenty of words, and actions of her own, that merit their own recognition. search for her blog on patheos.com .... I pray that, even if this is the first time you hear of Pastor Nadia, 'she has tattoos' is not all you know about her after this is over!

Mark Sandlin offers messages of God's love each and every day in a new and different way. I find that far more deserving than a tattoo or two. There's not enough skin on your body to give us as much as Mark Sandlin's words. Good luck Mark!

Nadia Bolz-Weber as the female pastor of a mainstream religion, is the face of the emergent church. Nadia rocks her role as pastor, leader, author. She is the reason I became an Evangelical Lutheran. She showed me, by her example, that there was a place for me at God's table. Anyone who has never heard of Nadia Bolz-Weber should know that her recent book, Pastrix, is on the NY Times Best Seller's list. After reading the first sentence of this book, I was bowled over; it only took seven words: "Shit, I'm late for New Testament class"!! I was hooked from that moment on.

Christine -- You gotta read Nadia's book -- Pastrix. She's fabulous.

    Nadia Rocks!

@Christine You don't have to know who Nadia is to see her tattoos... That's why God invented Google image search ;)

  • Mark Sandlin - 10 years ago

Thank you Christine! I actually love Nadia's work -- but let win this year and she can have next year? ;-) Fingers crossed and keep voting.... uncross your fingers if you need them for voting!

Considering the fact that I'd never heard of this Nadia person before today, it's no surprise that my vote(s) goes to Mark Sandlin. ;)
