"You can sugar-coat it if you like, but those who encouraged Eich’s ouster want him punished, and want him to be unemployable."

This is not true. People who were upset at his appointment as CEO wanted to know where he stood on the issue of government bans of the free expression and civil right of same-sex couples entering into civil marriage. He never addressed this, such as in the CNET interview where he deflected and refused to answer the question as to whether he would fund another ban on same-sex marriage.

Worse yet, he rambled on about tolerating the beliefs of Indonesians who believe that homosexuality should be a crime (which it is in the Avec Province) or should be considered mentally handicapped (as they are in the capital, Jakarta). He seem to say that, no matter how extreme or totalitarian a person's personal political beliefs are, they should still be welcomed and tolerated at Mozilla. I wonder, if a person's personal belief is that homosexuals should be put to death (as they are in some countries), would they be welcomed and tolerated at Mozilla, and how would Mozilla expect those of us who are LGBT to work with people who believe that we should be murdered by the government for being gay?

Brendan Eich could have deflated this whole controversy by saying something like this: "While I still have made the choice to believe that same-sex marriage is immoral, I no longer support government banning same-sex marriage because I no longer support taking away the right of others to make that choice for themselves." His failure to make the distinction between what he believes is immoral, and whether or not others should be forced, by the government, to conform to that same belief, made him untenable. I don't know how one single LGBT individual or true ally of the LGBT community could work or partner with a company that has a man at the helm who would use his wealth and influence to lobby more state governments to ban same-sex marriage or forcibly divorce same-sex couples who are currently married. These are our families we are talking about!
