I'm glad it's cancelled. It was a celebration of pride, money, showing off, and fame .... Everything the gospel is not about!!! Thanks BET! The "gospel" industry is all show and no substance ..... It's dead.

As good as God has been to us!!! Are we following the same trend? Black Entertainment for who....a selected few. A very bad move!!!.

I am really upset with BET My grandmothers and the older ladies loved Celebration of Gospel. How dare you take that away with our youth are dying be the dozen you rather put on Hip Hop , Martin L King, Malcolm and other civil rights leaders who have passed away would be upset to. With all the hell they went through to make sure you could have a BET is the Thanks you get. Shame on you Debra Lee but I knew you and Sony were not right when you put 106 Park. You wan even show any of the Older R &B stars, but they have concerts around the world and generate money. God is not Please

If bet is gonna get rid of something, Why not get rid of the hip hop awards???????...

This is what happens when the networks are ran by heathens. Anything that is degrading to black people, such as that hip-hop garbage is ok. Celebration of Gospel was all I ever watched on this channel. Hopefully a station with some integrity will pick it up.

Tyler Perry will pick it up.......

Just another reason why I won't watch BET anymore.

So sad that BET would make this awful decision. I don't watch some of the other so-called award shows because I'm sick of looking at our people with their pants under their butts, tattoos everywhere and the gold or jeweled teeth. I could always rely on Celebration of Gospel to uplift me. And I loved the excitement and joy of listening and singing along with the gospel artists. However, I didn't like this year's show as much as previous years because I prefer to see true gospel artists not just secular singers.

SECULAR WILL ALWAYS BE PROMOTED OVER SPIRITUALITY! SAD, BUT TRUE...INSTEAD OF TRYING TO PROMOTE POSITIVITY THROUGH GOSPEL THEY'D RATHER PROMOTE FOOLISHNESS BECAUSE IT INCREASES THEIR RATINGS BY GIVING THEM MORE TO DISCUSS WHEN SOMETHING BAD OCCURS. IT'S ABOUT MONEY! ALTHOUGH IT GENERATES VIEWERS, THEY KNOW THOSE OTHER WORLDLY SHOWS WILL GENERATE MORE! PPL WILL CLAIM THEY LOVE GOD, YET PROVE THEY LOVE MONEY MORE!! THE PROOF IS IN THE ACTIONS. #IJST

well i hate their cancelling it because they could have found some other show to do away with instead this,,i really love watching it,,its something thats in our foundation and roots of black people with this all the rest would'nt even exist ..wrong move b.e.t.

BET what are you doing? You always talk about being a positive influence for black people especially our youth and then you go and cancel the only special that focuses on inspirational music. Clearly its not a ratings thing so what is it? You show all these videos of people that are half naked, gyrating and partying as though that's all there is to life. How is that uplifting?
I also noticed this year that you had many secular artists performing on the show. What about the tons of gospel artists that need this platform. We see those secular artists ALL THE TIME. Every award show has the same people.
If you can focus on hip hop and all these other genres why can't you focus on gospel? It was just one show. No tricks, no gimmicks, just worship and praise. This is a real shame...SMH

Kudos & high five to BET for making an unlike, unpopular decision, to cancel the Celebration of Gospel, after 14 years. Some folks are upset with the decision to cancel the show. But, of course, I am not one of those folks. IMO, this year's celebration of gospel was one of the worst ever produced by the network, it totally missed the mark. There are petitions online already asking BET to reconsider their decision. From a personal standpoint, I think the show moved too far from its original purpose. I may be the only one who think this decision was a good one. For whatever reason, for the cancellation. Too me it became too worldly to be labelled GOSPEL!

This is a bad move by a network supposedly reflecting Black Entertainment. Gospel music is more than entertainment, it has been one of the major sources that have given strength and encouragement to a people for ages. It has done more to uplift a people than hip hop or similar genres. Maybe OWN will lift the banner for the audience that BET has turned it's back on. Praise the LORD!

I don't think the show should be cancelled as much as I think they should change the name to "Celebration of Gospel Music." The celebration or good news of the Gospel had to do with the Kingdom of God (Luke 4:43), not necessarily the celebration of gospel singers, musicians, and dancers. The message, or the object of the message (Jesus), therefore should be exalted higher than the messenger. Singing and dancing are expressions of worship, but it is not the Gospel. "The Celebration of Gospel Music" would be more appropriate for this show.

I find it very disheartening that BET, BLACK ENTERTAINMENT TELEVISION, is planning to cancel one of the greatest shows to celebrate the roots of BLACK people which is the Celebration of Gospel. I have always said how excellent, well-organized, & well-planned the production has always been of the Celebration of Gospel. Somehow no one thinks any of those other shows don't need to be cancelled...Smh. You're making A HUGE mistake BET.

How could they. THE ratings tell it all removing it is ridiculous. We all need the Jesus we can get.Not a good move .

  • K_ron - 10 years ago

Terrible! They need to make it a true gospel celebration...they better honor God before he shut it down.

  • Alex - 10 years ago

It's a sad decision, I always pointed to the fact that BET always celebrated the roots of the Black community, which lies in the Church and Gospel Musik, so cancelling the Celebration of Gospel just seems like a new low!

  • Shirlene - 10 years ago

Noooooo!!!!! What are you thinking? You're taking away something that we need more of! I look forward to Celebration of Gospel every year. Don't you think we have enough of the hip hop awards. If BET takes away the root of who we are, who else do we have to honor OUR gospel music.....NO ONE!

  • Monica Covington - 10 years ago

I find this to be the worst decision your organization could have ever made. The best choice would be is remove the hip hop awards. I don't care to see grown men with there pants hanging off their butts and constantly grabbing there crotches.
