I agree with Francis, you can't say God doesn't exist just cause bad things happen to good people. None of us know what will happen when we are dead, but hopefully God's ultimate plan will be made clear then. I think it's obvious that God doesn't want a bunch of mindless worshippers (that's why there is free will), and if he PROVED to you or the rest of the world he exists then there would be no free will anymore... the world would be much different if God proved to everyone his existence. Here is another thing to consider, and that is could Love exist if there were not Hate? I really don't think so as it seems to me those emotions are two sides of the same sword. Maybe God decided it was better to have a world with love and hate than a pointless world of mindless people worshipping him.
And also my thought on aliens is maybe they could exist, but I'm tired of the arguement that the universe is so big and therefore it must have aliens out there... that is a leap in logic. Consider my notion above that God cannot and would not reveal his existence to us or it would defeat the plan he has for us... and what better way to keep people guessing than to create this unimaginably huge universe... in fact, it is the unimaginable size of the universe that convinces me that it is just for that purpose. :)

There is the distinct possiblity that angels, aliens and gods exist but cannot help or thwart us because this journey is ours and ours alone to figure out.
Ultimately the responsiblity in how we live our lives rests within each of us. Faith in otherworldly beings can prove to be a great comfort to some and evidently provoke fears in others. This gives us a understanding into ourselves; our level of ease in this world and perhaps a clue into how we need to proceed in order to resolve our fears or conversely build upon that which gives us strength.
I vote that aliens exist. Based on observances here on earth life seems likely. Intelligence is another thing. There has to be other life out there wether or not it is capable of anything advanced is questionable.
