... then our contract should have read D2R !.... i would NOT have retired knowing my status D2 would be D2R. We should be grandfather in, !
( i too commuted, and I made it work, going up a day before, or staying at base an extra day)

This is a clear cut case of Age Discrimination..

Taking away the flight privileges - and yes, it was considered a privilege - is just selfish on the part of the company and all those who made that decision. I want the number of passes and the boarding priorities to be restored to pre-take-over days.

Starting with Lake Central who merged with Allegheny, becoming USair (Usairways) I started as mechanic and in my spare time earned a pilot license, intending to pursue that career. After military leave in the Army as aircrew with the 1st Aviation Brigade in Vietnam, I returned in 1972 to my Job as a Mechanic but due to some physical problems as a result of my war experience, the plan of a flying job was not to be. After Indy closed as a maint. base, I moved to Pit to keep a Job, newly single (Vietnam and geographic relocating can be devastating to a marriage), I went on to a lead mechanic position. In 1989 We acquired PSA and I went to San Diego to work as an Inspector. I retired in 2004 as a Lead Inspector. then, losing our retiree medical and some of my pension after the Bankruptcies was bad. Now D2R is the final insult, to my loyalty, I hope....

What financial gain does AA get? If none, what is the reason?

He is taking the money we gave up in exchange for D2 Retiree Travel and putting it in his pocket. It was a bargaining chip for aa for many years. WE DESERVE, AND HAVE NEGOTIATED FOR THIS BENEFIT.

    Doug,
Your decision to relegate me to a second class status after 34 years of service was wrong. PERIOD. W-R-O-N-G.

I worked for American over 45 years and the benefits always stayed the same until the America West gang took over .i never made more than $21.00 an hour at Max pay and our flight benefits were to be part of the salary at retirement. My medical was tp taken away along woth D2 passes. What is being done to the retirees is a crime.

I worked for American Airlines nearly 40 years as a loyal mechanic.
I retired with the promise my pension, flying and health benefits would stay in tact.
When Braniff filed bankruptcy so many years ago, then reorganized, the employees lost everything.
American Airlines Company would like the same to happen to their loyal employees.
We must fight for our benefits, just like we had to fight for safety equipment, health benefits, and our wages.
We were not given these things from the goodness of the company's heart.
    We had to fight.
