Don't sign Gus and save the $$. Howard has one last year to prove he is worthy of being the starter and earning the money. Let Mrazek back him up this year and get a hulking defenseman back there to help them both out! Mrazek gets to start seeing himself as the starter and getting more comfortable in the role. Do or die for Howie and if he can't help us win the cup neither can Mrazek or Gus next year so start bringing Mrazek in now.

I know this is unrelated but since associate coach Tom Renney is interviewing and most likely will get the job in Florida why not sign Holstrom as an associate coach who runs the power play unit? He would be a rookie coach but he sure could retrieve pucks, setup his teammates and score goals. The guy was tenacious.

I believe Howard is signed for another four years. Mrazek won't ride the pine for that many years. I think Howie has one more season left to prove he's an elite goaltender. Sign someone ( who doesn't have a groin injury every month ) to a one year deal and let mrazek play full time for another season. Howie might find himself backing up Mrazek. But the Wings will be hesitant to allow Howie to be the most expensive backup goaltender in the NHL. Everyone but us seam to have a shutdown goaltender when it comes to the playoffs. If you want to win you make tough decisions and right now I don't think Howie is an elite goaltender. One more year to prove he can win a cup. After that Mrazek should start.

I agree that you want your backup to be a potential #1 and that Gus probably isn't that (unless he's playing for Calgary or something), but Mrazek should play full time instead of riding pine. I do believe in getting him the ice time to continue to develop as a professional and stay sharp.

You are wrong in not trusting Howie!! He is going to keep being our number 1 because he is #1. Resign Gus, because he gave us a great year as our backup. And let Mrazek get just a little better by spending another year in the AHL.. Mrazek is going to be ready when is time comes. He is a future elite goalie, but we currently have one in Jimmy!

Resign Gus. His 16-5-4 record is an incredible feat. He kept the Red Wings going when Howard was injured and he kept the Red Wings going when Howard was slumping

Howard's a slob, trade him while you can. Sign Ryan Miller for one year and let Mrazek back up. If Mrazek beats out Miller, no big deal, you only are committed to Miller one year. Osgood was starting goalie at 20.

Gus has proven himself as a reliable backup if Howard is slumping or injured. Petr Mrazek in my opinion is striving to become the next red wings starting goalie and becoming a backup and sitting 60 games won't help him. Gus needs to be resigned, because teams without a starting goalie will look for him to take their starting job. Let's give Mrazek another season in GR and then he can be promoted to backup in later time. RESIGN GUS!

Gus proved to be a great back up. Signing him for another year would be wise. We have the cap space. I'm not ready to trust mrazek who only has a handful of NHL games under his belt. What if howie goes down for any extended period of time?? Gus also gives us the ability to rest howie. With mrazek as a back up you're looking at howie playing atleast 60 games. Not good.

I believe your backup should be a goalie who someday aspires to be # 1 & Gustaffson has not shown this trait in Toronto or Detroit. Mracek shows promise. The ultimate goal for the parent club when drafting is to see that draftee playing in the NHL . Mracek looks ready to challenge. Howie slipped a tad this year & it remains to be seen if he can bounce back to 2012-13.
