Although not so highly regarded now, the Andre Previn, Shelly Manne and (mostly) Red Mitchell trio should maybe be included? I always think of them as a sort of West Coast Oscar Peterson Trio, and they probably made jazz piano (acceptable) to many in the late 50's. Iv'e got some of their 'tunes from Broadway' LP's on UK Vogue, and still love 'My Fair Lady' - though it has to be played BEFORE 'real' piano jazz like Bud Powell or Bill Evans....
