Born and raised in DeLand , 72 years and still in love with the "small town vibe" we have. Friendly people and I live in Historical section in a bungalow that was built in 1920 and I know all my neighbors too! Come check us out and have a drink and rock on the porch with us.

DeLand is a very warm and welcoming little city. The families here are loving and caring for each other. Over the past 40 years I have seen DeLand blossom into one of the most desirable and beautiful places to call home. My husband, Ron and I have raised our three children here and are thrilled at the way the hometown people influenced them and taught them to grow into successful and loving members of this community. Thank you our sweet DeLand, we are blessed and feel so loved.

Deland is a welcoming town. Downtown with all its offerings of restaurants, wine cafes, coffee shops, murals, beautifully well kept downtown area with flowers and trees, churches abound all around. Beautiful old homes, kept by those who love our history. Stetson University, a college to be so proud of, that brings us much culture, education and young people to energize our community. You can drive to ocean in 1/2 hr, or Orlando, and Winter Park. Oh, and now you can go by train from a neighboring town to those metro areas. We have so much right here in our community.

Delightful DeLand! Was raised there and still feels like home when I go back! A winner, hands down!

  • Carole - 10 years ago

Having lived in DeLand for 55 years, I would not want to anywhere else!

  • Jocelyn Condenzio-Hall - 10 years ago

DeLand is a warm, welcoming town full of vibrant culture and wonderful, caring people. The lovely downtown is chock full of great shops and places to eat and socialize. A college town where intellect and art abound, we support our students at both Stetson University and Daytona State College, as well as our K-12 students. There are also new and used bookstores, museums, events galore, you name it, DeLand has it!!!

We grew up in Central Florida but have lived in Corinth the past seven years. The downtown Corinth merchants have treated us graciously, and most of the furnishings in our home were purchased from retailers in the downtown area. It takes only a few visits into the shops, the banks or the restaurants for the business people to know folks by their names. There are plenty of nice people on the avenues of downtown Corinth.

  • Les Coggins - 10 years ago

Corinth is a great place to live, relax, and work. But - DeLand is absolutely the very best Main Street in the world! Great variety. Well managed. Lots of very popular events. Safe. Clean. A vibrant economy balanced with hi-tech and down home jobs. Come visit - you'll be glad you did.

  • Pam Tulanko - 10 years ago

This is where we chose to retire slow yet close to many attractions. Friendly people and awesome restaurants and charm.

  • Jacquie - 10 years ago

It's not the beach, silly…it's DeLand! Vibrant with Culture, Art, Music and Great Food, DeLand's MainStreet has a life of it's own. This is a city of remarkable people doing meaningful things. Quirky people and events abound and you will always walk away from a day in DeLand thinking "what a great place"!

  • Wayne Sanborn - 10 years ago

Having lived here for almost 50 years, we have watched this downtown mature from palm trees and 40% vacancies to 97% occupancy with beautifully maintained landscaping and hardscape with treelined streets leading to the equally beautiful Stetson Univ. campus. Almost weekly downtown festivals, mural walks, sculptures, art galeries, ice cream walks, sidewalk cafes, eclectic venues galore, together with a period restored dowtown playhouse, historic County Courthouse, City Hall, Justice Center all within downtown make this a community withourt comparison. we vote DeLand #1.

  • Ruth - 10 years ago

DeLand is a beautiful town. It is well taken care of. Stetson campus is gorgeous, tree lined and manicured at all times. It has a lot of history, planters line both sides of the downtown area, stores neat & clean. A variety of stores for shopping. You can find almost anything you want in the area.

  • Peggy - 10 years ago

I live in Kentucky, but have visited both of these lovely towns. Each is special in its own right. Deland, however, is a bright shining star and very deserving of the title best Main Street in America.

  • Kevin Winchell - 10 years ago

Why vote for DeLand? Two words: Dog Parade. 'nuf said.

  • Jess - 10 years ago

Love DeLand. I visited often as a child, went to Stetson University, and now as a mom, I bring the kids here for festivals and fun. It's a great place for people of all ages.

  • Tammy - 10 years ago

Another reason to vote Corinth, not only is it home to Slugburger festival, Hog Wild, historical homes, businesses that are family owned passed down thru the generations, photographers like Joe mcKewen that have taken pictures of almost every family (multiple generations) in town with the town historically preserved in multiple photos taken by him over more than 50 yrs. It is also home to famous Dillworth Hot Tamales, generations of musicians, Mississippi's oldest and still operating drug shop and soda fountain est. in 1865. ( which is Borrums drug Store in the photo). And my favorite of all the historic Corinth Coliseum.
From Vaudeville stars, Grand Ole Opry performers and silent motion pictures to talkies and the rock and roll of Elvis Presley to today’s diversely programmed Civic Center, The Coliseum Theatre in downtown Corinth has witnessed the changing stage of the entertainment business.
Designed and built in 1923-1924 by Benjamin Franklin Liddon, the 999-seat palatial creation was built for $60,000.

Theater walls in soft pinks and blues were repainted with the traditional colors of the early movie era. The pastel shades were thought to create an air of fantasy and set the mood for entertainment and pink was Mrs. Liddon’s favorite color. Restorers took only slight liberties in using two additional contrasting shades of pink and mauve to show off the beautiful gold plaster friezes which Mr. Liddon purchased from a Chicago firm. Important architectural features include lobby wainscoting and grand staircase made from Italian white marble. The hardwood stage was designed by a New York Company and, when needed, a trap door to the cellar provides a fast exit for performers. Various widths of molding and friezes in classical Greek designs are featured in the auditorium with ornate gold plaster medallions and grills on the ceiling to complement ornate cornice designs. Stairwells are adorned with mandolin and music designs of applied plaster and gold bombe molding gives equal splendor to the fronts of the mezzanine and balcony seating areas. Four circular leaded, stained glass lights, edged in plaster molding on the mezzanine and balcony levels give the appearance of skylights. A much larger light of the same design provides incandescent light to the auditorium. Original brass fixtures and hardware can be found in the lobby, ticket booth and other areas.

The building which contains more than a million brick, was first cooled by two huge fans, the largest was 108 inches in diameter. After sound came to the movies, a water cooling system replaced the noisy fans in 1932 and used water from a nearby artesian well. This apparatus designed by Mr. Liddon was Corinth’s first air-conditioning system. Another feature which put Corinth ahead of its time was a floor vacuum system also designed by the owner. A large oil drum in the cellar was the canister to receive the debris and connected to a vacuum motor. Long hoses were connected to outlets around the building for fast cleaning. http://corinthcoliseum.com/history.htm. This is only a few reasons!

There is no better place on earth than Corinth. I have lived here all my life. The people are friendly, the downtown area his beautiful, the area is steeped in history. We have the Slugburger Festival, the Hog Wild BarBQue Festival, a nationally sanctioned Chilli Cookoff! Come and see us!

  • Caroline - 10 years ago

So sad that the smaller towns don't stand a chance due to the way parade matched things up... Corinth is amazing!

  • Pat - 10 years ago

My grandparents, mom & my 2 brothers 1 sister and I grew up in Deland..I remember going to the movies for 5 cent. At Halloween everyone would meet on main street with our little pieces of bar soap (1 bar cut 4 ways) to write and draw on the store windows (merchants encouraged) sweet town then and now. You can even skydive there..at 68 that's on my bucket list..

  • WRossi - 10 years ago

Love Corinth!!!! Slugburger Festival, Pickin' on the Square music, Hog Wild, and the people are the best!! :)

  • Maggie Dobson - 10 years ago

My family has lived in DeLand since 1977. We have watched it grow into the beautiful downtown it is today with terrific community support. Stetson University, one of the top small private universities in the US, has also been a key component to DeLand's success with its spirited student body.

  • Sally Pemberton - 10 years ago

So much to love in our little downtown! Art shows, chili-cookoffs, and craft festivals. I truly appreciate our Veteran's Day Parade with the vintage airplane flyovers as adults and children line the sidewalks along the parade route. We used to have an amazing night-time Christmas parade, but that changed to daytime a few years ago; even so, DeLandites turn out in large numbers for their parades and Friday night socializing along the Boulevard!

  • Ely R - 10 years ago

Let's not forget the Famous Stetson Mansion; The Athens Theatre, also events such as Tropical Nights, Monsters on Main Street, the longest and best Christmas parade with Santa, these are wonderful events where everyone can participate in the street festivals! We celebrate life, family & friends! Come visit DeLand!

  • Sharon - 10 years ago

Don't forget Chess restaurant in Deland the ONLY 5 star restaurant in all of Central Florida (which includes Orlando) also the Deland Original Music Festival each November the Largest One Day
Music Festival In The Southeast Featuring Independent Original Music or Delandapalooza 12 hours of Original Music on 25 stages featuring over 150 acts and more than 40 art vendors...Sometimes there are so many awesome events to choose from I struggle to decide...Deland is the best town I have lived in or visited in my life..and I say this after many years of traveling this country from sea to shining sea!

  • Ricky - 10 years ago

Having lived in both places, this is not even close. DeLand blows Corinth out of the water.

  • Deborah McShane - 10 years ago

DeLand is vintage eclectic, a true hometown that embraces the past, present, and future. We have a world class art museum, an excellent university, great antique and progressive shops, succulent restaurants, people who know your name. One friend said, "DeLand is Brigadoon!"
We also have well supported theater, music, dog parades, live oaks shading the boulevard, great farmers' markets, Zumba in the streets- give DeLand your vote!
It is a wonderful life kind of town, and well deserves to be named Best Main Street Town in America!

  • RLouisOueinaught - 10 years ago

    What a place.

Original music festivals, art shows, sidewalk dining, great restaurants, an upcoming movie industry, a historic university,, bike weeks, antique car shows, a vintage movie theater, etc. -- guarantee you won't be bored.

Plus, within a short drive or trainride, there are oceanside towns, nature parks, river excursions, etc. Come see yourself.

  • Lisa Harmon - 10 years ago

Deland has lots of charm, great places to eat, shop, people watch.

  • Anthony Ehrlich - 10 years ago

The streets of DeLand are full of shoppers, diners, artists and their work, museum and theatergoers, microbrewery patrons, and musicians, not to mention the Friday night Artisan Alley Farmers' market with its local and organic produce. Hey, it's the place to be!

  • Nancy Lewis - 10 years ago

If you live in or near Deland, "bored" is not a part of your vocabulary. There is just so much to do there, especially downtown. The art festivals in Fall and Spring, the Indie Markets, 4th Fridays Art Walk and Artisan Alley, Funky Trunk, yummy restaurants, and just the friendly people everywhere you go. It is the best!

  • Michael Katz - 10 years ago

I agree with you Margaret Jones but you are right - you left out the four, if not more combinations of restaurant/bars/lounges that feature LIVE music through the week including jazz, blues, country, Indy, and rock and roll. Don't forget the wine bars and new brewery. Last but not least - there are many fine artist who make DeLand their home.

  • Andrea - 10 years ago

    Deland!!

  • Margaret Jones - 10 years ago

Downtown DeLand, right next to Stetson U....Delightful...Museums, Athens Theatre, renowned restaurants, shopping, library, strategically placed art pieces and murals, transportation hub, historic Volusia County courthouse, historic downtown...and more, because I've probably left out something important...in an easily walkable area...and I don't have a business in town or work for the Chamber of Commerce!

  • Pilar - 10 years ago

Deland is a well preserved downtown which offers its people a nice place to relax and get together with neighbors.

  • Roe - 10 years ago

Deland hands down even beyond the Main Street. A great community

  • Josh - 10 years ago

    Go DeLand!
